Sausage And Egg Breakfast Casserole FAQs

How do I reheat breakfast casserole leftovers in the oven?

If you want to reheat the sausage and cheese breakfast casserole in the oven, remove it from the refrigerator and allow it to warm up for several (20-30) minutes on the counter. Cover with aluminum foil to prevent the egg bake from drying out. Bake in a 350° F oven until heated through, usually 15-20 minutes.

How do you reheat an egg casserole that seems too dry?

Steam will help a leftover egg breakfast casserole that seems dried out. While the leftovers sit covered on the counter to take the chill off, sprinkle water droplets over the top, approximately 1-2 tablespoons. The most crucial step is to let the breakfast casserole warm up on the counter to avoid prolonged heating in the oven.

Keep the casserole tightly covered with foil and put it in a preheated 350°F oven. Carefully check at the 15 minutes mark. If all the water has diffused, scatter some butter pats or drizzle with a bit of melted butter for the remaining five minutes. Let it rest with the foil for another 5 minutes out of the oven.

Should egg breakfast casserole be covered when baking?

No, this sausage breakfast casserole with crescent rolls should be baked uncovered for 35-40 minutes until set.

How do I keep the eggs from browning on top of a breakfast casserole?

You can cover your dish with foil; however, you may end up with a looser egg set because of the trapped steam. Increase the baking time as needed and remove the foil for the final 5-10 minutes.

Some people who love breakfast casseroles do not like “golden brown eggs” or edges. Your best hack is sprinkling the top with shredded cheese, especially the edges. If that doesn’t do the trick, use cheese slices like provolone so that the egg mixture isn’t exposed at all. That sounds pretty darn yummy right now. I’m hungry! lol

Sausage Egg And Cheese Breakfast Casserole Recipe Tips

  • Be sure to grease your baking dish so that the casserole is easy to remove once it is baked.
  • Don’t forget to drain the grease from the cooked sausage.
  • After 15-20 minutes, check if the crescent roll crust is turning golden brown. If so, cover the egg casserole lightly with foil and continue baking.
  • To check if the eggs are set, insert a knife in the center, and if it comes out clean, then the breakfast casserole is done.
  • Sometimes I prefer to saute the onion and bell pepper with the sausage in the last few minutes to sweeten and mellow the flavors in this egg casserole recipe.
