Ingredients For The Best Bake Brie With Honey And Walnuts
Nothing creates a stampede to the hors d’oeuvre table like a warm, gooey baked brie oozing and ready for a crostini or baguette round. If you plan on having a large gathering, I suggest you make two (or three) honey walnut and baked brie wheels!
- Brie Cheese – an unwrapped 10-ounce wheel of brie cheese with an intact rind.
- Honey – if your honey has crystalized, don’t worry; it will melt when heated.
- Walnuts – halved, but pieces work as well. Sometimes, I toss the nuts in melted butter to add a savory note to the walnuts.
- Fresh Rosemary Sprigs
- French Bread for serving

How To Make A Honey And Walnut Baked Brie Appetizer
One of the best things about baked brie is how simple it is and how everyone goes crazy for it. Then I sneak a nibble of the gooey, buttery, salty deliciousness and remember the best thing about baked brie is eating it!
(full printable recipe at the end of this post)
- Drop the unwrapped brie in the center of a shallow pie plate or brie baker.
- Plop the walnuts and rosemary on top and drizzle with honey.
- Bake until the cheese is soft and serve with crusty french bread or sturdy crackers and toasted rye rounds.
Baked Brie Appetizer Recipe Notes
- Baking brie brings a lovely molten texture and heightens the buttery, fruity, cheesy notes; no need to lay out extra cash for the more expensive brands for baked brie recipes.
- Allow the brie to warm before baking it to assist in heating the center of the cheese smoothly and evenly. It’s best if you can take the cheese out of the refrigerator and let it sit on the counter for an hour before baking. This helps the cheese bake more evenly.
- Baked brie should be just melty with a pliable center when touched. Don’t overheat because the cheese will harden in the middle.
- Adding chopped fresh cranberries to baked brie with walnuts is a tasty way to use up that odd ½-¾ cup, yum!
- You can also melt Camembert if you need a sub in. It is similar to brie with a slightly deeper flavor and notes of mushrooms.

How To Store Baked Brie With Honey
If your honey and walnut baked brie sits out for two hours, throw it out if it has taken on an oily sheen or smells off.
Refrigerate/Leftovers
Wrap any leftovers tightly in plastic wrap and put them in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator
Reheat
Remove any plastic wrap and put the leftover brie in a piece of foil, add a small pat of butter or a drizzle of olive oil on top, and bake until heated through.
Freeze
If you plan to make baked brie appetizers, a brie wheel can be frozen for up to three months if it hasn’t been cut. Leave it in the original wrapper and put the brie in a freezer-safe plastic bag to keep it from absorbing freezer flavors.
Baked Brie FAQs
A buttery, creamy, soft-ripened cheese from cow’s milk with a soft white “bloomy” rind. The texture can be soft to runny with a buttery, salty, and earthy flavor that increases as it ages.
A bloomy rind is the outer shell of the brie cheese that has been sprayed with an edible type of fungus/mold, penicillium candidum. The mold blooms on the outside of the cheese and is patted down until it forms the rind that protects the soft inner cheese from bacteria and other fungi.
Absolutely! The soft white rind on a perfectly ripe brie cheese should be soft, pliable, and somewhat sweet. When aged, the rind is hard or chewy, with a heavy earth scent. The rind can be cut off of an individual slice (please don’t tell me if you do!) But it can’t be removed before baking. The brie rind keeps the wonderful gooey contents in place as it bakes.
The way you are most comfortable and get the best results. Brie can be baked in the oven, microwaved, or warmed in the air fryer! The trick is to avoid trying any method with brie straight from the fridge.
Check the brie at 15 minutes. Touch the center surface with your finger, if it feels liquidy it’s done. Or you can insert a skewer and if it comes out with melted cheese stuck to it, then you know it is ready. (If you overbake a brie, it goes hard in the middle) If you see the cheese starts oozing out of the rind, then go ahead and pull it out of the oven.

Hello:
I want to try the Baked Brie with honey and walnuts.
What do you do with the rosemary after you take it out of the oven?
You can break off the leaves of the rosemary sprigs and sprinkle over the brie or you can chop up some new rosemary to sprinkle over the brie. You can also use chopped fresh rosemary instead of the full sprig and sprinkle over the brie before baking.
