Dilly Cheese Bread is a soft and flavorful quick bread with sharp cheddar, parmesan, and dill weed weaved throughout. Perfect alongside a bowl of chili, soup, or pasta it will easily become a family favorite!
Homemade cheese bread is perfect as a snack or appetizer, but it pairs beautifully with my Homemade Lasagna Recipe or my Three Cheese Baked Mostaccioli. Additionally, you can serve it with soup or chili in place of garlic bread.

We love cheese bread at our house, but my husband isn’t always a fan of traditional garlic cheese bread, so he loves it when I make this dilly cheese bread. He never gets tired of it. The sharp cheddar cheese, Parmesan, and dill weed are a great combination and the buttery, cheesy edges crisp up for a perfectly soft and crunchy bite.

I don’t bake bread with yeast very often because it requires patience and time for the dough to rise, not to mention kneading.
So, I love no yeast breads that don’t call for yeast or kneading – a savory quick bread like this cheese dill bread recipe is right up my alley!
This isn’t your ordinary bread topped with cheese. It’s a simple dough made from an easy biscuit mix. Each slice of this cheesy delight is extra soft with a crisp, cheesy crust and swirls of melted cheese throughout it. Serve with garlic butter for even more flavor.

With simple ingredients, you can whip this super cheesy bread up in no time at all! Here’s what you’ll need to get started:
- Biscuit mix– I use Bisquick, or you can make your own homemade Bisquick.
- Shredded Cheddar– Freshly grated cheddar cheese is creamy, soft, and melts easily. Pre-shredded cheese is dry and harder to melt because it’s treated with anti-clumping agents. Buy a block of sharp cheddar to shred yourself for this bread, trust me, it’s worth it!
- Parmesan cheese – Fresh grated is best.
- Sugar– You may not know it, but all bread has a little sugar in it.
- Milk– I used 2% milk, but you can use whole, skim, or 1% if you choose.
- Egg– You want the egg to be at room temperature before using it. If you forget to take an egg out of the fridge early, you can place the egg in a bowl of warm water for 5+ minutes to warm up the egg. This will help blend into the other ingredients.
- Butter– I usually use salted, since there’s no salt added to this recipe. But you can use unsalted if that’s all you have.
- Seasonings– You will need fresh or dry dill weed, garlic powder, dry mustard, and black pepper to give your bread a delicious flavor. The dill gives this bread an amazing flavor so make sure to grab some!
How to Make Quick Cheese Bread
Get ready to be impressed! This cheese bread recipe is super easy to make, and it only takes a little prep before you pop it in the oven. Follow the simple steps for a delicious cheesy bread you can serve with any recipe.
Preheat and prep: Preheat your oven to 350 °F. Then, spray an 8×4 inch loaf pan with cooking spray. Set to the side.
Combine dry ingredients: In a large bowl, combine biscuit mix, cheese, and sugar.
Whisk remaining ingredients: In another bowl, whisk the remaining ingredients together until blended.
Combine dry and wet ingredients: Next, stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Blend just until moistened.
Put batter in the pan: Spoon your batter into the prepared pan. Drizzle with melted butter. Sprinkle with the remaining cheese.
Bake: Place in preheated oven for 45-50 minutes until golden.
Cool the bread: Let the bread cool for 5-10 minutes. Then, remove the bread and transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

What Is The Best Pan To Use For Cheese Bread?
I suggest using an aluminized steel loaf pan for this recipe. The loaf pan that I use is 8×4 and works well for baking the cheese bread to golden perfection.
How Do I Store Leftover Cheesy Dill Bread?
To store your bread, place it in an airtight container or wrap it tightly in plastic wrap. You can leave it at room temperature for up to 5 days. Or, you can store it in the refrigerator for up to 7 days. If you want, you can also freeze it. Double wrap it in plastic wrap and place it in a freezer zip-top bag to freeze. It lasts in the freezer for up to 3 months.
What Is The Difference Between Quick Bread And Yeast Bread?
The difference between yeast bread and quick bread is the leavening agent. Unlike yeast breads, quick breads don’t use yeast. Yeast needs moisture, warmth, and rest to “grow”, while quick breads use baking powder and/or baking soda. They leaven more rapidly than yeast bread, hence the name “quick bread”
What is The Best Cheese for Bread?
Freshly shredded cheddar cheese is the best cheese for baking cheese bread. This is because it melts smoothly and is packed with savory flavor. Sharp cheddar tends to melt more evenly and helps keep the bread body intact the best. Feel free to use any cheese you prefer, just make sure it melts easily.
Cheese Bread Variations
Use fresh or dry dill. You can use fresh dill, but you will use more than dry (1 tablespoon of dry dill weed or 3 tablespoons of fresh dill). I usually reach for the dried dill weed because I have it on hand and dried dill weed doesn’t lose much potency during the drying process while fresh dill is very sensitive to light and will not only lose its color but flavor too.
Experiment with other herbs. You could substitute other herbs like thyme, rosemary, or oregano.
Try different cheeses. Practically any cheese will work with this recipe. You can use a mild cheese like white cheddar, spicy like Pepper Jack, smooth like Gouda, or nutty like Gruyere.
Substitute milk with buttermilk – it will give the bread a little tang and softer texture.
Make Dilly Cheese muffins. Follow this recipe but use a muffin tin. Fill each well in your muffin pan about 3/4 to nearly full. Bake at 350° F for about 30 minutes.

- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1¼ cups milk
- 1 large egg, room temp and lightly beanten
- 4 tablespoon butter, melted (divided)
- 1 tablespoon dry dill weed (or 3 tablespoons of fresh dill)

- Preheat oven to 350°F grease an 8x4-inch loaf pan (or 6 cup bundt pan) with cooking spray and set aside.
- Combine biscuit mix, 1 cup of cheddar cheese, 3 tablespoons Parmesan, and sugar in a large bowl.
- Using another bowl, whisk milk, egg, 2 tablespoons of melted butter, and seasonings until blended.
- Stir wet ingredients into dry ingredients blending thoroughly, until moistened. Do not over mix. (batter may be a little lumpy)
- Spoon batter into prepared pan, use a spatula to spread evenly.
- Drizzle remaining melted butter over the top. Do NOT mix butter into batter. Sprinkle with the remaining cheddar cheese and Parmesan.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden (or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean).
- Cool in the pan for 5-10 minutes before removing and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before serving.
STORAGE: Store in an airtight container or wrapped well on the counter for up to 5 days, or in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.
