Storage Suggestions
The great thing about this sweet treat is that it stores well so you can easily keep it around for nearly a week to have as a snack, dessert, or even breakfast. To keep the crisp topping crunchy, reheat in the oven at 325° Fahrenheit for about 10-15 minutes. You can also microwave it for 20-30 seconds.
Once it cools to room temperature store this crumble in the fridge in an airtight container (or cover the dish with aluminum foil) and refrigerate for up to 5 days.
Freeze the crumble for up to 3 months in a freezer-safe container.
Kitchen Tips For Success
- While I used gala apples for the apple filling for this recipe, you can change up the flavor profile using any kind of apples that you prefer. Use pink lady, golden delicious, honey crisp, or Granny Smith apples. You can also use Braeburn apples if you want an apple that maintains its shape well when cooked.
- Avoid syrups with sugars — I highly recommend using real maple syrup.
- Use old-fashioned oats for the best texture.
Cobbler, Crumble, and Crisp: What Sets Them Apart?
- Cobbler: Like my Peach Cobber has a biscuit-like topping dropped over fruit, creating a “cobbled” look.
- Crumble: Streusel topping of flour, butter, and sugar that is crumbled over the fruit. May or may not include oats or nuts.
- Crisp: Similar to a crumble but includes oats or nuts for extra crunch.
