Easy Chocolate Croissants
Croissants are one of those treats that I never thought I could make at home. It seemed like such a complicated process that was best left to the professionals. That was until I found this amazing recipe for the easiest chocolate croissants you can make at home!
All you need is a can of refrigerated crescent rolls, a few extra ingredients for the filling, and that’s it! The recipe is that simple, and honestly, one of my favorite recipes to make for either breakfast or dessert.
Any time I make a batch everyone raves over the light and flaky texture matched with just the right amount of warm gooey chocolate filling. From the moment you take that first bite, you’ll immediately fall in love, so be sure to save this recipe, because trust me, you’re going to want to remember this one.
How to Make The Best Chocolate Croissants
Buying croissants from the bakery can be a costly habit, so why spend money at the local cafe when you can make your own in just over 3o minutes?! This recipe for chocolate croissants could not be any easier. Just follow a few simple steps and you’ll be on your way to biting into the best croissant you’ve ever had.
To start, line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Combine some cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl and set aside.
Separate crescent roll dough into triangles. Next, you’ll add some chocolate chips to the wide end of each triangle and press them gently into the dough then sprinkle with the cinnamon and sugar mixture on each and begin rolling up from the bottom towards the top. Once the croissants are prepped, place them on your prepared pan.
Now, you’ll set aside your pan, and in a small bowl make an egg wash by whisking an egg and water with a fork. Lightly brush tops of croissants with egg wash. Sprinkle the tops with cinnamon and sugar. Place the pan with unbaked crescents in the freezer while the oven preheats then bake until golden brown. Serve warm or at room temperature and enjoy!
Tips For Making A Perfect Crescent Roll Recipe
- To help the crescent rolls puff up more, place them in the refrigerator or freezer for a few minutes before placing them in the oven. If you’re really in a hurry you can always skip this step and still come out with a great end result too.
- For a bakery texture and appearance, brush the rolls with an egg wash to achieve that perfect golden-brown sheen on the croissants.
- If you want the chocolate to melt faster, try using mini chocolate chips or pure chocolate. Both of these will melt better and faster than regular chocolate chips.
Additional Filling Options For Chocolate Croissants
These easy chocolate croissants are delicious with just the simple chocolate filling, but if you want to elevate the flavors in this simple recipe try adding a few other toppings to make things interesting.
Here are a few of my favorite flavor combinations to try:
- Add a few mini marshmallows to chocolate chips
- Try butterscotch or peanut butter chips
- Spread with a little strawberry cream cheese or jam before adding chocolate chips
- Spread with Nutella instead of chocolate chips
- Try them warm with a side vanilla ice cream
- Drizzle tops with melted chocolate

How To Store Chocolate Croissants
Croissants taste best the same day they’re baked, but they are still great leftover too. In order to preserve any leftover croissants, place them in a ziptop bag, or airtight container and store at room temperature, in the refrigerator, or in the freezer.
How Long Will Chocolate Crescent Rolls Keep?
How long your chocolate croissants will keep depends on where you decide to store them. They will keep at room temperature for up to three days, or in the fridge for around a week.
If you want to make a batch to save for a rainy day, you can also freeze a batch for up to 3 months, then thaw on the counter or overnight in the refrigerator.

Everyone should have a good set of mixing bowls in their kitchen. This set is my favorite because the variety of sizes means I always have exactly what I need available.
This is my favorite sheet pan to use. I have about 4 I use in my kitchen pretty much every time I bake anything that needs a baking sheet. They are perfect oversized pans!
The pre-cut parchment sheets are a lifesaver, and they fit perfectly in the above-mentioned sheet pan. You never have to mess with measuring and cutting out parchment paper from the roll again with these.
