I’m Lovin’ It : My Dyson DC40 vacuum

Dyson DC40 vacuum

If you’ve been following my blog since the early days……..you may remember that I won a Dyson vacuum about 3 years ago, and a year later I wrote about how much I love that machine!

Well here we are 3 years later and I still love my DC24 Ball as much as the first day I got it!  So, I was beyond elated when Dyson asked me if I’d like to give their new DC40 Multi floor vacuum a try.

This was perfect timing, since our oldest was moving to her own apartment, and she was really hoping  to have a vacuum just like mom’s.  So I let her take the DC24 to the apartment to live with her while I opened my arms to our new family member…..the Dyson DC40!

Dyson DC40 info

This isn’t your mama’s vacuum!  It’s fun and stylish but wow does it get the job done!  I loved my old Dyson, but the DC40 is the Lamborghini of them all, and the design is more like a work of art than a machine!

If you have pets, you will be astonished at how well the DC40 picks up dog (and I assume, cat) hair!  This little dynamo is light weight and easy to use, store, and move from floor to floor.

One of my favorite “improvements” from the DC24 is the longer cord! WOOHOO!  I know that seems trivial, but having a cord that’s long enough so I don’t have to keep finding a new spot to plug it in was really important to me – I had an extension cord attached to my old Dyson, but I don’t need it with the DC40.

Before owning a Dyson I never made the connection that you get what you pay for. I assumed “how different can a vacuum be” .  But now that I’ve had the pleasure of owning a Dyson I have to tell you it would be an investment I would not give a second thought too.  Just think, no more bags or filters to purchase either.

Dyson’s come with a 5 year warranty.  I had the opportunity to put this to use a few months ago when the beater bar stopped rotating.  I called their support line, and was treated incredibly kind as they walked me thru several steps to determine the issue, then I was shipped a whole new vacuum head in just a few short days.  The new part was very easy for me to replace, but they offered to assist me over the phone if I needed help.

With a black lab in the house I would love this Dyson! I need to “bite the bullet” and go for it!

oh I PROMISE you Sue you wont be sorry! if you can swing it yes, you NEED one! Just think of it this way – it will last YEARS and years – so you wont be paying $100 in a few year for another cheepy again and again……and you don’t have to buy bags or filters……so it really makes sense, especially when you factor in how AMAZING it works, that it’s really the better buy and a fabulous investment!

Thanks for hosting Cheryl. I have a Dyson from about 6 or 7 years ago and it’s still going strong. With two big dogs it gets it’s workout! I love the newer models with the swivel head!

I bought a Dyson 7-8 years ago. It’s still going strong and I absolutely love it. You definitely get what you pay for with a Dyson.

    • TidyMom replied on May 4th, 2012 at 10:39 am

you sure do! My only regret is that I never bought one years ago!

I can’t even remember how old my current vacuum is and I hope when it does need to be retired that I’m in a position to get a Dyson! Talk about perfect timing for your daughter’s move. She’s probably one of the youngest people to own a Dyson and I’m sure she is going to love cleaning her new apartment with Mom’s *old* vacuum.

    • TidyMom replied on May 4th, 2012 at 10:41 am

oh she is SO set Paula!………..my mom was downsizing from a house to an apartment when she moved – so she got a lot of furniture (that my dad built) from her too…….it definitely does not look like the typical “first apartment” for a 24 year old! lol

I LOVE my Dyson, too! The short cord does drive me crazy, though. I’m glad they improved on that feature. We’re moving soon, so maybe I need an upgrade. :)

Thank you for hosting and for your opinion on the Dyson. I’m going to be in the market for a vacuum cleaner very soon … just waiting for the old one to finish dying.

Wow! How nice to be the receiver of a second, newer Dyson. They must love you. Thanks for hosting and have a great week-end.

I’ve wondered if Dysons were really that much better than other vacuums. Have you tried it on pet hair? Whatever vacuum I buy next, I really want one that will do a great job cleaning up dog fur.

Congrats on winning your Dyson! I hope you have better luck with it than I’ve had with mine. I spent over $600 on the Animal model because we have long haired kitties. It was absolutely great in the beginning. Two months after the warranty ran out, the clutch went out. I spent almost $150 to have it repaired. It lasted 6 months and happened again. The authorized repair center that I took it to said that Dyson had a bad habit of burning up clutches. I didn’t get it repaired the second time and found another brand of vacuum.

      I’m really sorry!
I’ve had the one I wont for 3 years and have had only one issue, which they sent out a replacement part right away.
