How to Clean a Dirty Keyboard | Board ‘oeurves
This is it! We we are packed and ready to move this weekend! We will move the little stuff over the weekend and the movers will come on Monday for the furniture.
This is where I have spent most of my time for the last 4+ years……. my office.
As much as I’m ready to move out of this house, this is the one room I enjoy being in. It gets the most light in the house (so I do a lot of my photography in here) and after 4 years, I still love the paint color.
I got the white leather desk chair for my birthday this year, I never knew I could love a chair!!
I have a little secret though……….
I eat at my desk……….. a lot. PLEASE tell me I’m not the only one who does this. It’s all those snacks and caffeine that fuel the ideas and thoughts that I put into my blog one keystroke at a time. 😉
This dirty little habit, can leave my keyboard quite the mess (especially if I’m eating something like a hand pie)
Apparently I’m not the only one who does this! Clorox has a term for this keyboard mess… Board-‘oeuvres, pronounced as bawr-durvz ; the lingering crumbs in your keyboard from one too many work lunches! It’s just one of the hilarious terms in their Ick-tionary which is full of many more ick words for every day life.
HOW TO CLEAN A DIRTY KEYBOARD
- Shut down the computer and detach the keyboard
- Turn the keyboard upside down and use a can of compressed air to blow out any foreign matter.
- Clean the sides of the keys with a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol
- For a more thorough cleaning, remove all of the keys (TIP: I take a picture of my keyboard so I remember how they go back). Gently pry up each key with a small screwdriver or a similar device. After all the keys have been removed, blow out any debris with compressed air. With a moist (but not wet) cloth, lightly wipe all surfaces. Do not allow any type of fluid to enter the keyboard.
- Clean the individual keys and place them back in the keyboard.
I keep a container of Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes in my office to wipe down the surface of my desk after I eat 😉

We are in the middle of redoing our master bedroom and painting. When we pulled the night stand away from the wall on my side of the bed I think you could have had a whole meal off of what was underneath – gross! Besides eating at my desk I eat in bed too!!
