Gourmet Popcorn + Pizza Movie Night

As much as I love to get all dressed for a night out, most of the time we enjoy hanging out on the sofa in comfy clothes with pizza, gourmet popcorn, and plenty of movies.
When our girls were growing up, we rarely set aside “date night” but we did spend a lot of evenings with the girls snuggled up on the couch watching movies with our favorite snacks. Now that our girls are grown, we still enjoy movie night, even if it’s just the two of us.
When Friday night rolls around we pick out a movie, a bottle of wine and make a dinner we both love…pizza!

If you know Allison’s boyfriend, one way to his heart is deep dish pizza (he’s a Chicago native) So naturally the new Pepperoni DIGIORNO Crispy Pan Pizza I had in the freezer was a perfect choice to surprise him with for their movie night when he came up for a visit.

Hot Fresh Pan-Style Pizza at Home
If you haven’t heard, pizza fans can now have a crispy, baked fresh in your own oven, pan-style pizza, thanks to DIGIORNO pizza. The oven-ready pizza bakes up hot in its own single-use baking pan (hello easy cleanup!). DIGIORNO Crispy Pan Pizza is topped with edge to edge cheese for a crust that is crispy and caramelized on the outside and soft and tender inside.
Homemade Gourmet Popcorn
Of course, you can’t have a movie night without popcorn! We love the classic butter popcorn, but sometimes it’s fun to mix it up a little bit and do more of a gourmet popcorn.
This Sweet Heat Maple-Chili Popcorn is our new favorite. This gourmet popcorn recipe comes from a desire to please both sweet and savory taste buds. It’s the perfect balance between sweet and spicy. Of course, if you prefer more sweet or spicy, feel free to adjust the flavors to your liking.
Movie night never tasted so good!!
With the addition of a couple of glasses of wine and some gourmet popcorn, they were prepared for the perfect at-home date night. Now all she had to do was pick out the movie (debatably the hardest part of any movie night).
Whenever Patrick comes to visit Allison loves to show him around St.Louis, but sometimes you just need a night at home.
A nice relaxing pizza and a movie night in our finished basement was perfect, while Steve and I enjoyed our own popcorn, pizza, and a movie upstairs.
The goal of movie night, in my opinion, is to have good company and delicious, stress-free food that satisfies. This was exactly that!!
They cued up their movie and enjoyed their pizza and gourmet popcorn. They said it was seriously the perfect stay-at-home date night!
Chili Maple Gourmet Popcorn
Pizza and Popcorn Movie Night. Make Gourmet Popcorn at home for a special treat.
Oven-ready pizza, Sweet Heat Maple-Chili Popcorn, something to sip on and your favorite movie and you have a perfect date night at home.
Ingredients
- 6-8 cups popcorn, popped
- 4 tablespoons maple syrup
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- table salt for additional seasoning
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 300° and coat a large rimmed baking pan with cooking spray (or line with parchment paper).
- Place popcorn in a bowl.
- Combine syrup and butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil, stirring just until combined. Continue cooking without stirring, for about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat. Add chili powder, smoked paprika, and kosher salt. Stir until well combined.
- Pour syrup mixture over popcorn, stirring with a rubber spatula to coat.
- Spread popcorn mixture in an even layer into prepared pan. Bake for 10 minutes in preheated oven.
- Remove from oven, and cool completely in pan before serving. Season to taste with table salt.
Notes
optional method: melt butter and syrup in microwave. Stir in seasoning and drizzle over popcorn and serve.
