We Love Cinnamon Honey Butter
I don’t know about you, but I have always been a fan of Texas Roadhouse’s cinnamon honey butter. In fact, whenever I would eat there, I would always ask for some to take home with me. Well, when you have to pay an arm and a leg for a small smidgen of butter, you wonder how hard it is to just make it yourself. And, that’s what I did! I made a delicious cinnamon honey butter that I can have any night of the week!

What is Cinnamon Honey Butter?
Cinnamon honey butter is a delectable sweet butter that kind of gives you the Hawaiian Roll taste only so much better! It was created in 1942 by a man named James Downey. When honey and butter met, it was a masterpiece in the making.
It’s made with only 4-ingredients and can be spread on almost anything from bread and pancakes to sweet potatoes and butternut squash. If you have a sweet tooth, you’ll love that this butter is actually good for you. Both cinnamon and honey give you a powerful dose of antioxidants, and it definitely sweetens up anything you spread it on.
What Is In Honey Butter?
The best thing about this cinnamon honey butter is that you won’t need a ton of ingredients to whip it up. In fact, you only need 4 main ingredients!
- Honey– I prefer to use Clover Honey. And, I would suggest using pure honey instead of raw honey for a sweeter flavor. If you are able to get local honey, that’s even better!
- Cinnamon– I like to use Roasted Ground Cinnamon, it intensifies the cinnamon flavor but you can use any cinnamon you find in the seasonings section at your local grocery store.
- Powdered sugar– You may have other sugar lying around, but you won’t get the same consistency and texture of honey butter if you don’t use powdered sugar. You can adjust the sweetness to your liking by adding more or less powdered sugar.
- Butter– Obviously, you can’t have honey butter without butter! I prefer to use salted butter, the salt acts as a preservative and prolongs the shelf life of the butter, but you can use unsalted as well! The better quality the butter, the better your cinnamon honey butter will turn out. Make sure you are using real butter and not margarine. You can use vegan butter (Earth’s Balance) to make it dairy-free and vegan if you need.
How to Make Cinnamon Honey Butter
This isn’t your average homemade butter. This butter is something you’ll want on the table for every meal! Follow the steps below for a truly sweet and delicious spread.
Mix Ingredients: Add all of your ingredients to a mixing bowl and blend with an electric mixer for about 5-7 minutes.
Squeeze into jars: Using a spoon or spatula, add your butter to an airtight container. For entertaining or gifting add the butter to a large pastry bag, cut off the tip and squeeze it into half-pint jars.
Store in the refrigerator: Place the lid on your jars and store your honey butter in the refrigerator. Bring to room temperature before serving.
How Long Does Honey Butter Last?
Honey butter can last 3 days to 2 months depending on how you store it. If you store it at room temperature, be sure to use salted butter (the salt acts as a preservative and prolongs the shelf life of the butter) and consume it within 3 days. However, if you store it in the refrigerator, it should last up to one month. Additionally, you could also store it in an airtight container in the freezer for 2 months.
Keep in mind that if you store it in the fridge or freezer, you will need to let it come to room temperature before using it.
Can I Microwave the Butter?
No! Do not microwave your honey butter because it will become a soupy mess. Additionally, the ingredients will separate so you won’t have the same yummy spread you once did.
What To Serve With Cinnamon Honey Butter
Now that you have your honey butter all whipped up and ready to go, you may be wondering what to spread it on. Here are some of my favorite ways to use my homemade honey butter:
- On a slice of the best banana bread ever.
- Slathered over pumpkin pancakes or buttermilk waffles.
- Added to butternut squash.
- Spread on muffins, bagels, and scones.
Gifting Honey Butter
The sweet and creamy honey butter is unbelievable on just about anything and makes a darling gift in a jar! They make a pretty presentation when you add a little bling to the jars, and pair with homemade bread, pound cake, and a DIY Stenciled Holiday Towel and you have a fantastic gift from the heart that took less than an hour to make from start to finish!

How long will this keep in the refrigerator and can it be frozen?
it will keep as long as butter keeps – so just check the date on your butter before making it. Fresh/new butter will last for at least one month. You can also freeze it for up to three months.
How would you recommend storing this for gift giving? How long would it last at room temp?
it would be the same information as storing it:
Honey butter can last 3 days to 2 months depending on how you store it.
The taste is wonderful. My butter was at room temp as was the honey and it mixed together in a matter of minutes and was runny. Far too runny to pipe. But that’s ok, the taste is what it’s all about anyway. Gonna put it on some freshly baked sourdough bread in the morning. Thanks for sharing the recipe!
Glad you enjoyed it! This butter spread isn’t thick like frosting, so it’s not something you’d pipe (we used a piping bag to make it look pretty as a gift and for photos). Also, if you place it in the fridge it won’t be so soft and you can store it for longer.
If I am traveling and giving it as a gift, how long can it set out? Is it okay to be unrefridgerated for 8hrs? Also, how many small jars (as pictured) does this recipe make?
the recipe makes 3 half-pint jars.
There is a section in the post about storage: Basically it’s stored and just like non flavored butter. If you store it at room temperature, be sure to use salted butter (the salt acts as a preservative and prolongs the shelf life of the butter) and consume it within 3 days. So yes, it should last unrefidgerated for 8 hours, but will need to be consumed within a few days.
Can this be frozen to give as a gift later?
you can store it in an airtight container in the freezer for 2 months. if frozen prior to the USE BY date on the package. Once the butter is removed from the freezer, use it within 30 days.
Keep in mind that if you store it in the fridge or freezer, you will need to let it come to room temperature before using it.
