How I Beat Dry Skin | I’m Lovin’ It

The other day while I was out running errands, and Instagram and tweeting what I was doing along the way, I happened to mention my secret weapon to battle dry skin ………….

My secret weapon to battle dry skin at TidyMom.net

Seems a lot of people were interested, so I thought I’d share with the rest of you!  It’s so simple, I never really gave it much thought, but it’s too good NOT to share!

We are pretty tough on our skin and while the Winter is the most notorious for dry skin, but the sun and even our home air conditioners can dry out our skin the rest of the year. I know my feet get super dry in the summer when I’m running around in sandals all the time.

How to Moisturize Dry Skin

  • shower or bathe in warm but not hot water
  • BEFORE you dry off, using a nickel size portion of Johnson’s Baby Oil Gel (be sure to use the baby oil GEL, it’s thicker than just baby oil) massage into skin (use more as needed, but don’t over do it)
  • Towel dry skin, pat don’t rub
  • Immediately apply Johnson’s Baby Creamy Oil all over skin.

None of this leaves my skin feeling greasy, just soft and smooth and it’s WAY cheaper than some of the other products out there.

The real key is to using it on damp skin, to lock in moisture.

Do you have tips for battling dry skin?

This has been one of my favorites for many years. J&J quit making the Rich & Creamy Baby Oil one that I love, so I grabbed all that I could find. I get a lot of compliments when I use it, but I admit I ration it. Ha!

  9. 9

I never even knew they made a oil gel. hmmm I’m curious now i guess I probably should moisturize better ha. thanks for hosting

  10. 10

I’ve never tried baby oil, but I know some people that do use it though! I always use Suave cocoa butter lotion (on damp skin of course!). It works like a dream for me!

  11. 11

I have the world’s driest skin. It’s eczema-ish dry. It’s insane. I will try anything so consider it done that i will try those J & J products!

  12. 12

I did this with both my pregnancys Ended up with no Stretch Marks:)

  13. 13

    thanks for the party!!!

funny, back in the day…ya know when i was single & had a somewhat figure. during the summer my girlfriends & i would run baby oil on our legs so they would look a little shiny but hopefully sexy while wearing shorts. oh the dumb things we did. NOTE* it was not for moisturizing just for attention. LOL

  14. 14

oooooo I’ll have to give this a try! I use Aveeno Baby – the blue cap – right after the shower for my verrrrrah verrrrrrah dry skin! :) I also use Bag Balm – it comes in a lovely vintage green tin at the farm supply store – for my dry cracked feet in the middle of winter! My mom has actually shipped it to me during the 4 years we’ve lived here in Germany! :)

  15. 15

Thanks for hosting! I’m linking up a recipe for homemade blue spruce balm. So easy, frugal, and it only takes 3 ingredients – evegreen, olive oil, and beeswax.

  16. 16

Dry skin…ugh. Tell me about it. The tops of my hands really suffer this time of year. That creamy oil sounds like a great product to try. I love your photo – don’t know how you could make lotion look any better than that!! ;)

  17. 17

If I wasn’t scared of driving in the snow, I’d be on my way to the drugstore now. Moving from Alabama to Colorado has KILLED my skin. My knuckles are forever cracked and bleeding – attractive, right? I can’t wait to try this!

  18. 18

Great tips!! We use Robathol! Its amazing, its good for your skin, it lasts long after your shower. I have VERY dry and sensitive skin, I cant wear costume jewelry or use regular lotion, so its a good fit for me! :)

  19. 19

Thanks for sharing, I am always looking for ways to moisturize my skin.

  20. 20

I am guilty of taking showers that are way too hot and my skin screams at me for it. I will definitely be picking up this gel – great tip, Cheryl!

    Jane Schwalm says:

I have Sjogren’s Syndrome, which an an auto immune disorder that most people have never heard of. It is a lack of moisture in your body. I have dry eyes (use Restatis), dry mouth and lots of cavities (drink plenty of fluids and use Biotene toothpaste and gum) and for my skin is very dry. Both the rheumatologist and the dermatologist recommend Aquaphor for my skin to help with the lose of moisture. You’ll find it over the counter at most stores. It reminds me of Vaseline since it is a petroleum product. After a warm shower (though I make it a bit hotter) and not using soap product (using body washes without soap) and after I dab myself dry, I put Aquaphor all over my body. Although Aquaphor is petroleum based, and we all know how that feels, it has made a difference in my skin. When I scratch my my leg or arm, I don’t immediately see a white scratch line. Try it :)

Wow! The link-up party is huge this week! I’m always dealing with dry skin in the winter months and tried everything, including Bag Balm (available at Lee Valley) but several months ago I tried an organic moisturizing (recipe found on Amanda’s blog at Easy Peasy Organic) and it works wonderfully for my dry hands, legs and feet. Just a few ingredients to make a batch too!

  23. 23

Great tip..I just mix a little baby oil in with my normal lotion. But I will have to try your trick~

My brother suggested I would possibly like this website.
He was once entirely right. This post truly made my day.
