Sarah of Thrifty Decor Chick is having a party!
And not just ANY party….but
MY kind of PARTAY!
A CLEANING PARTY!
{I thought this was the perfect time to revisit an older post of mine}
It’s no secret……I like a Tidy Home!
Hence the name, TidyMom.
Ever wonder HOW I got that title?
My oldest daughter assigned me that title years ago when we first got online. Does that girl know her mom or what? LOL
I’m not neurotic or one of THOSE moms. I don’t really LIKE to clean, I just LOVE the end result. I like to look around the house and see clean. I don’t like the stress of seeing a mess.
Trust me, I have piles of junk like everyone else, some are just hidden in closest (remember this post).
How do I keep my house looking tidy?
I’m going to share a few of my tips (what works for me)
Don’t let it sit for later (Clean ASAP) – a mess is much easier to clean up when it happens. Once food or dirt is allowed to dry or soak in, it’s going to take a lot more time and elbow grease to clean it later.
Don’t Put it off – this is probably my BIGGEST household tip! Clean as you go. You’ll be amazed that many things only take a few minutes to do if you clean as you go, rather than hours of cleaning if you put it all off to do at once. If you stay on top of these things daily your house will look nice and you will be more organized and relaxed. Some of the things I do daily are:
- make my bed
- wipe down the bathroom after I have gotten ready – I keep Clorox wipes and a cloth diaper under the bathroom sink – and I give the bathroom a quick wipe down daily.
- clear the dinner table AND do dishes as soon as we finish eating.
- load the dishwasher any time there’s a dirty dish – it really only take a few seconds, instead of having a sink or counter piled with dirty dishes.
- wipe off the counters and table.
- sort mail, throw out junk.
- do at least one load of laundry
- fold and put away laundry as it comes out of the dryer
Set a Timer for Quick Clean Ups- Many days I will give myself 15 minutes and run thru a few rooms and just pick up stray times, fluff and straighten the room. You’ll be surprised how often this will motivate you to keep going. Get the kids to help – make it a game!

These are just some tips that keep me sane, more relaxed and a happy mom.
Do you have any quick cleaning tips?

These are great tips! I've done the "set the timer and see how much I can get done" trick quite a few times and it really works for me. I also like the reminder not to let it sit to later too – it works well for me when I do it, but I don't always stick to that one. Have a good week.

I love all of your ideas. I like the quick tidy thing as well. We used to call it a 10 minute tidy when my kids were younger. We all took a room and cleaned up for 10 minutes until the timer went off. I love to go to bed with a picked up house. Fresh house to start off my day.
Blessings to you.

Thanks for some great tips!
I have really been working hard to stay on top of my laundry. So far so good! It feels great to open the washer or dryer to start a new load and not find it filled with clothes!

I like the timer idea! Think of the calories burned by running around too! 😉

Great advice Cheryl. I so love the "Clean ASAP", if I put things off it doesn't take long for me to get stuck. I feel overwhelmed and unable to do anything! But keeping it clean as we go…well that's "stuck-prevention" for me!

Loving these tips and I so agree! It has been all about doing small things to keep up with everything rather than trying to do a great deal of cleaning at once. Thank you for those tips!

I just love the 15 minute Tidy and the girls love it as well. It really is amazing how much can get done with three little munchkins running around and then the pride they show after a job well done 🙂
I love the other tips and will work them into my little world, thanks for the inspiration.

Those are some tips I needed to hear today as I stare down a mountain of laundry and dusty shelves. Tomorrow will be a tidier day!
Thanks!

I have a dryer for the first time. (English winters without a dryer – can you imagine?) I used to have damp clothes hanging on racks in the kitchen. We haven't had an electric bill in yet so I've no idea how much extra I'm paying for the use of the dryer but, boy, does it make a difference to the feel of the kitchen!!

My kids are 10 and 12 and already on board with doing chores such as taking turns helping with dishes and feeding pets and livestock each night.
Their bedrooms, however, kept getting out of hand until I simply added "ten minute tidying" principles to their daily schedule. They have always known that the minute they get home from school they need to do homework first. I've now added "clean room" second to the list. Before fun and games.
It is already so much easier because it's a set time and inviolate. They know they don't wander off to do their own thing until the room is clean and any clean laundry I set in the room that day is put away. As they go I hope they learn that it's easier to "keep clean" than "get clean" and act accordingly.
My 10 year old DD, in particular, seems to enjoy that fact that when she asks to have a sleepover I point out that since her room is "company ready" we'd love to.
