Tips for Good Oral Health

We all know that regular brushing and flossing are imperative to good oral health. I’ve been brushing with the Arm & Hammer Advance White Toothpaste for over a month now and I have to say…..my mouth is feeling and looking GREAT!
Nutrition and Oral Health
Choosing the right foods in your diet is another important aspect in having healthy teeth. Eating a healthy diet may sound easy, but, fruits, milk, cereals, bread and even some vegetables contain sugars and starches. A balanced diet that provides adequate nutrition can help promote healthy teeth. Many nutrients, including vitamin C, vitamin D, calcium and others, are essential to oral health.
The foods that we eat come in contact with the germs and bacteria that live in our mouth. If you don’t brush, plaque accumulates on your teeth. Plaque thrives on the starches and sugars. When plaque comes in contact with the sugars and starches, an acid is produced that attacks enamel on the teeth, and eventually causes decay. According to the American Dental Association, the acid attacks the teeth for 20 minutes or more.
Tips for Good Oral Health
- Drink plenty of water
- Eat a variety of healthy foods (think five major food groups)
- Limit snacking in between meals
- Limit high sugar snacks and drinks
- Brush at least twice a day
- Floss Daily
- Visit your dentist for regular check ups
Foods to limit or avoid
- Sugary drinks and snacks (especially sticky and chewy)
- Hard food (including ice) or food with pits (like olives and fruits)
- Popcorn (especially kernels)
- Coffee, tea and red wine (can stain teeth)
A friendly reminder in the bathroom never hurts either! {wink}

I have the yummiest snack ever to share.
I call it “Pretend Tiramisu”.
2 scoops Greek yogurt (plain)
8-10 almonds (not salted)
1/2 t. cocoa
1/2 t instant coffee
dash or two of sugar (or your fave substitute)
Mix together and enjoy. Tastes like a dessert of Tiramisu. You can tweak the ingredients to get the best taste for you.
I honestly just eyeball it for myself.

I love snacking on frozen grapes. As soon as I get them home from the grocery store, I portion them out into little snack baggies, and throw them in the freezer. Super easy and super tasty!

My favorite healthy snack is an edamame salad with cranberries, sunflower seeds, green onions & red peppers!
I have a lot of favorite snacks that revolve around chocolate… But my favorite healthier snack is to mix some plain yogurt with cilantro and pepper, spread over a lettuce leaf, top with a deli meat slice and roll up.
Carrots. They satisfy my need to crunch and are filling.
My favorite Healthy Snack: any fruit in season that I am allowed to enjoy. It´s fresh, cheap and it varies as the seasons change.
My favourite snack would definitely have to be peach & mango yoghurt, with a mix of frozen berries. I bet you can tell how much I love my fruits from that <3
My favorite healthy snack is a Granny Smith apple cut into wedges and smeared with reduced fat peanut butter. So delicious and I lived on these when I was pregnant with my son.
