Family traditions are one of my favorite things about the holidays. It’s so special to have meaningful things that we do as a family year after year. When our girls were younger, my mom would give them an ornament each year and we would put their name on it. They get so excited when we put the tree up, to dig thru our ornament box and reminisce about each one. When Heather moved to her own place, she took all of “her” ornaments with her, so it made her new tree feel a little like home.
When it is time to put the tree up, they each place their ornaments where they want on the tree………I may be known to go around and “fix them” a little later 😉
For some reason, we don’t have many “family” ornaments. We have the “Our First Christmas Ornament” that is 27 years old and still standing!!! I love the idea of having a special ornament to represent our whole family though. This year I’m starting a new tradition! I want FAMILY ornaments……..that way when our last one goes and we have an empty nest, we don’t have an empty tree!
So it’s no doubt that I fell in love with the new Family Christmas Tree Ornament from The Vintage Pearl. Isn’t she a beauty?! I can’t wait to hang it on our tree.
Erin at The Vintage Pearl was so kind to send my family a Personalized Christmas Family Tree ornament . The ornament arrived in a small tan box nestled in padding and wrapped in a pretty pale blue ribbon accented with a pearl. Perfect for gift giving, if you’d like to give one as a gift.
Speaking of gifts…….. The Vintage Pearl products are all handmade by Erin and her team in their Tulsa, OK studio. They use quality materials like silver, gold, swarovski crystals and freshwater pearls. They have a large assortment of Handstamped Jewelry. It is always fun to have something unique and personalized just for you or someone special.

I started a tradition years ago of making picture ornaments. Some have been crocheted rings with picture glued to back, some are foam ornaments, some are framed ornaments. Which ever way I do them I have some of my kids as infants, now I am doing their kids for my tree. Our youngest son is 26 and our oldest is 37, with two girls in between. Needless to say there are alot of ornaments on our tree. I love seeing how the kids and grandkids have grown.
WE also buy an ornament every year. We also have a New Years Day open house/brunch. This might be the right ornament for us this year!
Every year I buy a new xmas themed pajama for the Xmas week and I buy 1 new ornament for each one of my kids relate to something the did or liked in tha past year (i.e. Hockey ornament when J. started to play hockey….) on Xmas Eve we bake biscuits…………….I <3 Xmas time!
I get my boys matching pajamas (ages 2, 6, 12 and 15) and a special homemade gift; last year it was personalized pillow cases.
We always get up on Christmas morning and go to my sister’s house to open presents and eat a special breakfast that I make together with my parents.
Our traditions are pretty basic. Cookies and milk for Santa and carrots for the reindeer.
We always put up the tree and decorate the house the day after Thanksgiving, along with the first batch of homemade Christmas cookies.
I’m German, so each year we celebrate on Christmas Eve. We make brats, potatoes, and sauerkraut for dinner. We eat lentil soup for lunch and watch Christmas movies. Then, we open presents at night:)
My mom always makes a big dinner for the family on Christmas Eve. She makes crab legs, shrimp and her fantastic twice baked potatoes..yummy:-:
Every year on Christmas eve, we eat a big prime rib dinner and play Bingo with lots of fun candy prizes!
Every year my family goes to see Santa and gets a family picture with him. We usually invite anyone else who happens to be with our family at the time. I hang all the picture up the staircase. We have one with a drunk Santa which always makes us giggle!
We put our tree/decor up on Thankgiving day 🙂
We have several family traditions. A few of my favorite are….
Ive always bought my girls a small puzzle (size of a deck of cards) I put it together and write a message on the back. Then when they put it together they can see their message for the year. And the life saver books….
We always watch “Christmas Vacation” every year.
Make ornaments, cookies, candy.
I always get my boys (men 🙂 in the family a toy. The best they said so far has been the rubber band airplanes… Fun!
Thank you for such a beautiful website. Its always like Christmas for me everytime I look at it.
Happy Holidays!!!!
We bake two kinds of pie – pumpkin and cocoa mint pie. For our Thanksgiving meal, we have turkey and all the trimmings. We often have double the amount to be thankful for as our daughter’s birthday sometimes falls right on Thanksgiving!
Appetizers Christmas Eve and monkey bread Christmas morning. Yum!
We have a white elephant gift exchange every year.
Our favorite family holiday tradition is the advent calendar. We have a holiday activity or treat for each day counting down to Christmas. The kids love it.
Our family tradition growing up consisted of midnight mass followed by tea sandwiches and hot cocoa at home. We were then allowed to open our stockings. I have wonderful memories of this tradition. We have our own families now, and our time is split between my husbands family Christmas Eve and my Mom’s house on Christmas day. We always decorate Christmas cookies the week before Christmas with the cousins at Grandmas house. Kids enjoy so much!
We love to go to the Lady of the Snow Shrine and look at Christmas lights. Then we come home, get on our pjs and snuggle in front of a Christmas movie.
On Christmas morning we have a birthday cake for Jesus, at breakfast and we sign Happy Birthday to Jesus. The cake is a red velvet cake and when our sons were younger we would discuss the meaning of the round cake is for everlasting life, the red cake signifies Jesus’ sacrifice for us and the white frosting was for purity.
As the little kids have grown older, we’ve come up with games every year for the adults and teens to play. Last year we had our own version of family feud, girls vs. boys. Girls won, naturally 🙂
Each year my boys add an ornament to the tree depicting something they were into that past year – minecraft, Disney character, Legos, etc. I also take a picture of each of them with their favorite gift that year and put each of them in a photo ornament with the year on it. I have to plan ahead and snatch up the “year” ornaments fast!
Small family so we just get together and eat yummy food!
One of my favorite traditions is baking santa cookies with my kids
Putting up all the ornaments on the tee while listening to Christmas music playing loudly!
My mom gives my husband and I an ornament every year as well as my 3 kids. When they leave the house some day to start a home of their own, their first tree will be full of ornaments already.
Our traditions include baking my grandma’s cookie recipes, a buffet of appetizers and desserts on Christmas day, our big meal in the evening, stockings for everyone, presents for the kitties, wildlights at the zoo, long drives to look at Christmas lights.
We have a lot of family traditions but one that my girls HAVE to do is look at Christmas lights. We load up in the car and visit one of the light displays in the Denver metro area or just drive around in neighborhoods, Christmas music playing on the radio, then we stop at Starbucks for hot chocolate (for them) & coffee (for me).
We always buy an ornament a year for each person like yours. I would love to win this beautiful ornament!
We decorate the tree together while listening to Trans Siberian Orchestra. We also wrap our dogs presents and let him tear into them, it is so funny!
Our traditions is we buy our tree every thanksgiving weekend. we make christmas cookies, open gifts first thing christmas morning and always have christmas dinner with the whole family.
Every year, my family would go out and shout merry Christmas to strangers and give them a little treat. Even my usually solemn father enjoys doing it:)
Bake christmas goodies, decorate home, midnight mass, open presents.
Always spend an evening with all of my family a couple weeks before Christmas…since we all have other places to go on Christmas, it’s nice to set some time together over the holiday
One of my favorite traditions is going to see Santa, riding the train, and then letting my kids each pick out a new ornament. It’s a tradition that started accidentally and I love it!
Christmas jammies, hot cocoa and cookies and Christmas movies on Christmas Eve <3
I always bake Christmas goodies – fudge, pralines, cookies, etc. Everyone has their favorites and the list of “but you have to make ____” seems to grow every year! Lol
We usually pick one for our kids with their input. 🙂 This year we will be picking at DisneyWorld !! 🙂
One of my family traditions is every year we start out by having a cookie swap.I make several kinds & I send & give them as gifts as well.On xmas morning we all get up early open our gifts , proceed with a big xmas breakfast & get rwady to go out delivering gifts to friends & family! We have great big family dinner then pretty much crash after all that eating!! Lol
I’m polish so Christmas Eve is a big time for tradition for us. My family starts out by setting a very humble table with a plastic tablecloth covering straw from the barn. We prepare an odd number of dishes to be served of what can be considered pretty bland food (fish, barley, peas, jello, prunes, pierogies, etc). We also leave an empty spot at our table for Jesus. At the beginning of our meal we say a prayer and every family member gets a piece of bless opltek which after the prayer you trade small pieces of with each family member to bless them at this special time of year. After dinner, each family draws a piece of straw from under the tablecloth the length of this piece of straw is supposed to represent how long you life is going to be. Legend has it that if you serve the straw from under the table to the animals in the barn they will be able to talk at midnight, while we have fed them the straw, no one has made it up late enough to see if they actually do talk.
We love to pick a night to get in our pjs, pop popcorn and have hot chocolate and watch our favorite movie..”The Christmas Carol”
We have lots of traditions but my fave is listening to Christmas music and decorating our tree together.
Our tradition in my family is to have every family meet at my grandmother’s house for Christmas Eve. And while the older kids help the younger kids with games and crafts the adults help with food and cleaning. When dinner is served we all (25 of us) gather and give a little prayer. When dinner is over we gather in the livingroom which can be standing room only and pass around presents. When all is done we tell stories and visit before packing up and heading home to get some rest before Santa comes to surprise us for morning. Which is when we have our cinnamon rolls, presents, and a long day of eating and laughing.
Well, this will be my second Christmas as a married woman and first Christmas as a mom!! I’m very excited. We will start the tradition this year of taking pictures as a family and with santa and also we always go look at lights with some hot cocoa or chai tea!! I love the holidays!
Our tree is very small and doesn’t have very many ornaments so I would love the family tree ornament! !!!!
Thank you!
Lindsey
baking cookies!
Drinking creme de menthe
We have all the usual Christmas Traditions, baking cookies (and a cookie exchange), looking at Christmas lights, seeing Santa, drinking hot chocolate (even though we live in FL), watching the 24 hours of A Christmas Story on TBS, a gag gift exchange, and visiting the family. Our Christmas ornaments all have a huge sentimental value to me, I would love to add this beautiful one to our tree! Thanks for the chance to win! 🙂
My favorite holiday tradition is our annual cookie swap!
We purchase a family ornament each year…but none as pretty as this one! We also visit a local train garden, have a cookie bake off, open one gift on Christmas Eve (always new Jammies), and read The Night Before Christmas before going to bed 🙂
We have a ton of Christmas traditions! Most of my favorites happen on Christmas Eve. Every year we get new pajamas and after eating green waffles with red syrup, we get changed into the new pjs, pile into the car, and go on a long drive listening to Christmas music and looking at the prettiest lights we can find.
