Family traditions are one of my favorite things about the holidays. It’s so special to have meaningful things that we do as a family year after year. When our girls were younger, my mom would give them an ornament each year and we would put their name on it. They get so excited when we put the tree up, to dig thru our ornament box and reminisce about each one. When Heather moved to her own place, she took all of “her” ornaments with her, so it made her new tree feel a little like home.
When it is time to put the tree up, they each place their ornaments where they want on the tree………I may be known to go around and “fix them” a little later 😉
For some reason, we don’t have many “family” ornaments. We have the “Our First Christmas Ornament” that is 27 years old and still standing!!! I love the idea of having a special ornament to represent our whole family though. This year I’m starting a new tradition! I want FAMILY ornaments……..that way when our last one goes and we have an empty nest, we don’t have an empty tree!
So it’s no doubt that I fell in love with the new Family Christmas Tree Ornament from The Vintage Pearl. Isn’t she a beauty?! I can’t wait to hang it on our tree.
Erin at The Vintage Pearl was so kind to send my family a Personalized Christmas Family Tree ornament . The ornament arrived in a small tan box nestled in padding and wrapped in a pretty pale blue ribbon accented with a pearl. Perfect for gift giving, if you’d like to give one as a gift.
Speaking of gifts…….. The Vintage Pearl products are all handmade by Erin and her team in their Tulsa, OK studio. They use quality materials like silver, gold, swarovski crystals and freshwater pearls. They have a large assortment of Handstamped Jewelry. It is always fun to have something unique and personalized just for you or someone special.

it would be awesome if I could have this ornament to hang on the tree when I visit my son & his family in Japan! I hope to make this visit a yearly tradition.
We make cinnamon rolls christmas morning.
Baking! So much baking.
Even though grown, my kids still hang their stockings at our hose. Also make decorated sugar cookies every year with my daughter.
we always have a Christmas Eve box with movies, pjs, and popcorn inside
We give our kids one present a day instead of giving them a whole bunch on Christmas.
Christmas is my favorite holiday! When my children are home (they are grown) we go to church for Christmas Eve candlelight service and on Christmas morning we share time around the tree each taking turns opening one gift at a time sharing thanks and stories. In the evening we go to our cousins home for a delicious meal and always take several family photos together. The best part is sharing time with my children and family and remembering the true gift of Christmas!
My husband passed away in 11/2011 and my son has just gotten engaged so our traditions are going to be changing. His fiance has small children and that presents an arena for all new traditions!
I would love to start a new tradition as we have added our first grandchild to our family!! =)
Happy November!!! Your blog is awesome, thanks for hosting this great party.
~~ Have a great day, Sharon & Denise
We open a Christmas book each night and read it together.
We spend every other year trading off Christmas Day w/ either my family or my husband’s family. Some day, we’ll spend Christmas’ home with just us (and our girls), but for now, we have big family celebrations. Thank you for the chance to win this beautiful family ornament! 🙂
We haven’t gotten into the groove of having a xmas tradition. Our wee ones first xmas was last year and we visited her great grandma. This year I’m hoping to create more traditions at home…possibly making our own ornaments 🙂
Unfortunately, we don’t have one.
My family (my daughter, my grandson and I) are starting our own traditions this christmas
my grandson isn’t quite 2 so its a good time to start
Thank you
started getting new ornaments every year since 1973 for my children, now for grandchildren , I love the personalized family tree ornament idea, can each family one of there own.
We are starting a new tradition this year! I saw this idea and loved it. I will put together a gift for my four boys to open on Christmas Eve that includes new pj’s, a movie to watch that night plus movie candy and a hot cocoa packet for each of us!
My father use to buy me a box of Andes mints every Christmas. When he passed I decided to keep the tradition going by baking Andes Cookies. My family looks forward to them each year. I also collect Christmas ornaments and look for that one special ornament to add to the tree every year. We celebrate with my husbands family on Christmas Eve and indulge in their traditional dinner which consists of 13 choices of various seafood and vegatable dishes….amazing. On Christmas Day we then celebrate with my side of the family which consists of opening presents, playing cards, eating and drinking and last but not least spending quality time with the family.
We have a few little traditions. One is getting ornaments for each of the kids that signify something special about their year and also a family one. This VIntage Pearl one would be perfect for that!
We have an ornament tradition at our house. We each (my 3 kids, husband and I) get a new ornament every year representing something significant that happened that year, i.e. license, graduation, married, etc,, with the idea that once the kid leaves home she/he will take their ornaments with them and we will still have plenty left on our tree. That’s why I love this post and giveaway!
Our family really doesn’t have a lot of family traditions…but I would love to start some. One thing is that we never take down our Christmas tree until after New Years.
We’ve always had our own DAD, MOM, and DAUGHTER ornaments, but this family ornament is a lovely new tradition that I would like to start! Thanks for sharing!
Everyone comes over to our home for Christmas Breakfast and then we open gifts. It is a great tradition that we all look forward to every year .
We used to open gifts on Christmas eve which is a German tradition and eat pizza – which has to be an American tradition!
We watch Christmas movies on Christmas Eve after dinner with my husband’s side of the family. When my children were younger they always had brand new pajamas for Christmas Eve. Now I buy new pjs for my grandsons to wear on Christmas Eve. We also open gifts on Christmas morning starting from the youngest person first to the oldest person last.
We all sit down together and sign our Christmas cards that we send out. After opening gifts, we celebrate my daughter’s birthday with a birthday cake for her and Jesus. 🙂
Our tradition is playing poker with the whole family!
We enjoy putting up the tree and decorating the house as a family. We listen to lots of Christmas carols and then head out for dinner that evening.
As a kid we received a new ornament each year from St. Nick, and we have continued that tradition with our 2 daughters. We also open 1 gift on Christmas Eve, pajamas, and then read the Night BEfore Christmas and put out cookies for Santa.
Every year we have the same plans… and we are so busy! But one tradition is getting up super early on Christmas day to open presents and have a home cooked breakfast!
Baking cookies, leaving them for Santa, packing shoeboxes for school, pictures with Santa at the mall, Santa brings my 4 boys a special Nutcracker each year (we have a hockey one, cowboy, Santa, classic ones…)!
We have a lot of traditions. We do the Lego advent calendar, read a scripture daily, open a pair of homemade pajamas on christmas eve, just to name a few.
thanks!!!
Every year we always spend a day decorating our fresh cut Christmas tree (and the house) – listening to Christmas music, drinking hot chocolate, and watching Christmas classics on TV. This year we’re going to be welcoming a baby in to the home, so hopefully we’ll add even more fun traditions to the mix!
Our kids have always been able to check out their stockings without waiting for Mom and Dad Christmas morning, but that’s it. And they can’t wake us up until 7:00. Of course now that they’re all over 20 sometimes I’m waking THEM up!
We have a tradition of getting together with two other families for a very long, very fun day of Christmas cookie baking. The kids are all totally exhausted (and usually don’t decorate more than a dozen cookies each before they go off to play, and the grown-ups finish…which is fine), and we each have a ton of cookies to take home (and re-gift!).
We also do then ornament tradition. My mom.has gotten each of us an ornament that represents something significant from the year every year of our lives. She still does it and I’m 30 years old! I loved that when I moved out I didn’t have to go buy a bunch of generic ornaments and my tree was still full of memories!
We get a new Hallmark snowman ornament every year to add to our tree. This is also going to be our first 25 days of Christmas and I’m excited to start that as a new tradition.
My family has always been a huge Dallas Cowboys fan… so every year since my son Josh was born I would make or buy a new Cowboys ornament for his tree. He started out with just a little 3 foot tree and now he has a 5 foot tree that he puts them on. The idea was so when he got married he could take his tree with him to enjoy and have those memories… he got married August 3, 2012… little did I know how much I would miss that tree in my house. This year my husband and I decided we would still carry on the ornament tradition… but we will be starting a Cowboys tree of our own.
We always buy an ornament when we are on vacation so when we are putting up the tree we can reminisce about the vacations.
Our Christmas tradition is going out on Christmas Eve to my mom and dads and in their neighborhood they light it all up with farolitos. Everyone drives with their blinkers on to make them shine brighter. The whole neighborhood gets together and sets the bags out and picks them up on Christmas day, with hot cocoa in the trucks keeping everyone warm!
We get a family ornament each year. Would love to have this one!
We always put oranges in the boys stockings even though only one will eat them. My husband’s family has always done that and we continue the tradition.
Our Christmas Eve tradition is making fresh squeezed orange juice for Christmas morning, to go along with Cinnabons! It’s the one time in the year that we enjoy Cinnabons! We’ve been doing this for well over 25 years!
getting together with family and friends
We have a lot of Christmas traditions. We get or make a new ornament, we have a sock advent calendar, the boys help pick a charity to donate too, we bake cookies together. We love Christmas!
We have a large family and celebrate in the barn. The day of we go cut a huge cedar from the pasture and decorate it. The kids love it
The day after thanksgiving we go to San Francisco and see a tree lighting and then that weekend we decorate the house!
We hide a pickle ornament on the tree. The person who finds it gets a gift.
My husband and I do different things every year. I can’t think of any traditions that we do every single year.
We have a few traditions…Christmas Eve dinner menu is always the choice of our son – no matter what he picks – and has been since he was three years old. We always have cinnamon rolls and bacon on Christmas morning, too!
