Ginger Peach Bourbon Smash

I hope you are stocked up on plenty of peaches right now, and if not you better go get some, because today I have a light and crisp peach cocktail recipe you are going to love!

This ginger peach bourbon smash is a delightful fruity cocktail that comes with a kick thanks to the bourbon and ginger beer. It will even have tried and true bourbon haters sipping on one as the peaches and ginger beer really take the reins letting the bourbon hide in the background.

Just watch out because you’re in for a refreshment that is almost as easy to make as it is to drink!

What Is A Bourbon Smash Cocktail?

I feel like I see smash cocktails everywhere, but it wasn’t until recently that I actually learned what they were and the history behind a smash cocktail.

It’s actually a type of julep that’s created by mixing liquor, sugar, and fruit. The fruit is typically mashed up and also used as a garnish to make a picture-perfect concoction that’s just as refreshing as it looks.

You can find this mixture being mixed up behind bars all the way back to the 1800s. So while this bourbon smash might be new to you, it’s definitely not new to the cocktail game.

How To Make A Ginger Peach Bourbon Smash?

(full printable recipe at the end of this post)

This cocktail can be mixed up in just a few minutes and is made even easier if you already have your peaches pre-prepped and sliced, which I recommend if you plan on serving a peach bourbon smash at a party.

In the bottom of a rocks glass, muddle together a few peach slices and lemon slice, until pulverized.  Add the bourbon and stir.
Fill your glass with crushed ice and top it off with ginger beer. Stir and garnish with peach slices and fresh mint. Enjoy.

Can I Use Frozen Fruit For A Bourbon Smash?

I always prefer to use fresh fruit over frozen when possible, but that doesn’t mean it won’t work if you’re in a bind. If you can’t find any fresh peaches, frozen will still work, just make sure to let them thaw completely before using them in the recipe.

The only peaches I will say to stay clear of are canned, you definitely don’t want to pour a bunch of canned peaches into this bourbon smash, it will not taste the same at all.

Do I Have to Make This Cocktail With Bourbon?

I know that for some people, dark liquor isn’t your jam. If that is you, no worries, you can still enjoy this refreshing peach ginger bourbon smash, without the bourbon. Either leave it out altogether or swap out the bourbon with your liquor of choice.

I think it would be so good with vodka or gin! Just note that using white liquor will give the overall look of the cocktail a much lighter look and will not have that nice iced tea-esque coloring.

Give your cocktail a Mexican feel, and replace the bourbon with tequila. I’ve personally never tried it but, I’m sure it would be amazing! So, if you try this cocktail with tequila, be sure to let me know what you thought in the comments.

Can I Use Another Type of Fruit?

Just like with the alcohol that is easily interchangeable, so is the fruit. I used peaches because we are in peak peach season, and I love any excuse to use up all the fresh peaches I have around the house.

If you want to make your own bourbon smash, and peaches aren’t as accessible, try it with another fruit like blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, or a combination of the three. Pretty much anything you wouldn’t mind pairing with gingerbeer will fit perfectly into this cocktail combination.
