Earth Day is about celebrating the planet that we live on, it’s a time to focus on building a clean, healthy, diverse world for today and future generations.
Our planet does a lot for us, we should take it out for lunch.
So grab a blanket, a basket of food and head to your favorite park or outdoor spot and help the Nature Conservancy set a world record with the largest picnic celebration!
I made Earth Day cookies! Heather is a stylist at an Aveda salon, and they are celebrating Earth Month as well, so she asked if I could make some cookies for the salon.
Table of Contents
To Make Earth Day Cookies
Supplies Needed
- 4″ round cookie cutter (I also used a scalloped square cookie cutter)
- Vanilla Almond Butter Cookie Dough
- Royal Icing tinted with AmeriColor Sky Blue, Leaf Green, and Bright White
- disposable icing bags
- couplers and tips: #1.5 or #2 (for writing) #5 (for smiley face)
- squeeze bottles
I RECOMMEND FOR MAKING EARTH DAY COOKIES:
To make Globe Cookies:
- using 4″ round cookies
- blue icing (using Callye’s 20-second rule for the consistency) in squeeze bottle
- green icing (consistency 20-second rule) in squeeze bottle
- white icing, piping consistency, in decorator bag with coupler and #1.5 (or #2) tip
Flood entire cookie with blue icing, then use green to make continents (no need to be exact, you just want the effect)
If you want to write on the cookies, let them dry a few hours before writing “Earth Day”
To make Smiley Face Cookies
- blue and green icing (using Callye’s 20-second rule for the consistency) in squeeze bottle
- blue and green icing, piping consistency, in icing bags with coupler and #5 tip
Flood entire cookie in either blue or green. Let dry about an hour, then pipe opposite color for eyes and mouth.
To make square cookies
Follow same instructions as above, using square cookie cutter.

On and around April 22, The Nature Conservancy will encourage people all around the world to celebrate the planet we live on by stepping outside and enjoying good food with great company.
In 2011, the inaugural Picnic for the Planet was a great success with thousands of people joining more than 600 picnics in 61 countries on all seven continents. We even held our own virtual picnic on many of our blogs.
2012: Bigger and Better!
For Earth Day 2012 (April 22), The Nature Conservancy will once again ask people to get outside and join the world’s largest picnic celebration. And this year we are going to make it official: we will attempt to set the world record for the most people picnicking in a 24-hour period. Web visitors can either browse the Conservancy-sponsored picnic events around the world, including in cities like Seattle, Boston and Melbourne, Australia, or sign up to host a picnic with family and friends. Anyone who holds a Picnic for the Planet with at least 25 people can download the materials to be officially included in the record-breaking attempt.
Please join me and a group of friends and fellow bloggers in celebrating Earth Day this year by having a picnic for the planet. What better way to celebrate the Earth Day than with a picnic?

My husband and I share 1 car. We don’t buy water in bottles we reuse a 5 gal jug and fill it with reverse osmosis water. We don’t eat meat!
We recycle and take our own bags to market.
I use reuseable bags as often as I can remember!
I am a Facebook fan of yours! (That’s how I found out about this!)
I try to offer items on Freecycle as often as I can. I’d rather see items get a second life by going to someone who can use them instead of filling up landfills.
we recycle and compost everything we can. we also bring our own reusable bags to the grocery stores.
wow this looks amazing!
Love your Earth Day cookies! I’m sure everyone at Heather’s salon was super impressed when they saw these.

I do several things to help save our earth! I use re-useable grocery bags. I carry foldable re-usable bags in my purse for those quick runs to the store. When I make small gift baskets I use things like re-usable strawberry containers. I love your cookies! thanks for the opportunity to win!
We have been turning off all the lights when we are not using them. Thanks,
Thanks for the awesome giveaway! My kids and I are walking to school every day, now that the weather is finally warming up! Good for the planet, good for our bodies and good for my wallet!

I am recycling more. There is a great recycling program at my work and I have been working to better utilize it.
We walk or take public transportation as much as possible. Use reusable bags when shopping, have a native garden, compost, etc.
I liked The Nation Conservancy on FB. I got a Brita bottle water with filtration system for refills and stop buying plastic bottles of water.
These are so bright and cheery! Sure to get anyone in the spirit of earth day!
We recycle, compost, use reusable shopping bags, and have an organic garden in our backyard.

We have started recycling at our house. My family wasn’t on board, but after just over 2 years of hearing me say “that’s recyclabe” and seeing me take things out of the garbage to put into the recycling cans, they are finally jumping on the recycling train!

We use reusable bags at the grocery store
I am working toward a goal of minimal waste. Recycling and re-using. Also purchasing locally and organically.
We just moved to a new neighborhood that is wonderful about recycling. They supply a HUGE recycling bin (the same size as our regular garbage bin) so I’m very motivated to recycle everything. I’ve also switched a lot of my cleaners to more “green” options. Not only are they better for the environment, but better for my family and dog, too 🙂
These are the cutest cookies ever!! My neighborhood finally got recycling bins that are bigger than our rubbish bins so I am going to go recycling crazy! I don’t use one-use plastic bags at grocery stores anymore. I’m starting a compost bin and I grow herbs, fruits and veggies to cut down on that footprint my food takes up. I only use all natural cleaners, detergents and products in the house to avoid chemicals getting into the water and out into the soil. I love our planet!
Hanging laundry on the line and using the dryer less. Great giveaway!
I avoid bottled water at all costs! I also try to bring my own bags to the grocery store
We keep a bucket to capture shower water while its heating up….we use it to water the plants.
