Earth Day is about celebrating the planet that we live on, it’s a time to focus on building a clean, healthy, diverse world for today and future generations.
Our planet does a lot for us, we should take it out for lunch.
So grab a blanket, a basket of food and head to your favorite park or outdoor spot and help the Nature Conservancy set a world record with the largest picnic celebration!
I made Earth Day cookies! Heather is a stylist at an Aveda salon, and they are celebrating Earth Month as well, so she asked if I could make some cookies for the salon.
Table of Contents
To Make Earth Day Cookies
Supplies Needed
- 4″ round cookie cutter (I also used a scalloped square cookie cutter)
- Vanilla Almond Butter Cookie Dough
- Royal Icing tinted with AmeriColor Sky Blue, Leaf Green, and Bright White
- disposable icing bags
- couplers and tips: #1.5 or #2 (for writing) #5 (for smiley face)
- squeeze bottles
I RECOMMEND FOR MAKING EARTH DAY COOKIES:
To make Globe Cookies:
- using 4″ round cookies
- blue icing (using Callye’s 20-second rule for the consistency) in squeeze bottle
- green icing (consistency 20-second rule) in squeeze bottle
- white icing, piping consistency, in decorator bag with coupler and #1.5 (or #2) tip
Flood entire cookie with blue icing, then use green to make continents (no need to be exact, you just want the effect)
If you want to write on the cookies, let them dry a few hours before writing “Earth Day”
To make Smiley Face Cookies
- blue and green icing (using Callye’s 20-second rule for the consistency) in squeeze bottle
- blue and green icing, piping consistency, in icing bags with coupler and #5 tip
Flood entire cookie in either blue or green. Let dry about an hour, then pipe opposite color for eyes and mouth.
To make square cookies
Follow same instructions as above, using square cookie cutter.

On and around April 22, The Nature Conservancy will encourage people all around the world to celebrate the planet we live on by stepping outside and enjoying good food with great company.
In 2011, the inaugural Picnic for the Planet was a great success with thousands of people joining more than 600 picnics in 61 countries on all seven continents. We even held our own virtual picnic on many of our blogs.
2012: Bigger and Better!
For Earth Day 2012 (April 22), The Nature Conservancy will once again ask people to get outside and join the world’s largest picnic celebration. And this year we are going to make it official: we will attempt to set the world record for the most people picnicking in a 24-hour period. Web visitors can either browse the Conservancy-sponsored picnic events around the world, including in cities like Seattle, Boston and Melbourne, Australia, or sign up to host a picnic with family and friends. Anyone who holds a Picnic for the Planet with at least 25 people can download the materials to be officially included in the record-breaking attempt.
Please join me and a group of friends and fellow bloggers in celebrating Earth Day this year by having a picnic for the planet. What better way to celebrate the Earth Day than with a picnic?

Those are seriously cute cookies, Cheryl!!
We are no longer buying plastic water bottles
I plan on helping my 5th grade students set up a recycling program for our school!
We recycle and eat locally.
I don’t use plastic disposable water bottles. Haven’t for over a decade. I love my nalgene and Sigg water bottles.
We’ve switched to “green” cleaners, and have started recycling our newspapers!
a classroom recycling program!
I remember taking bottles of Tab back to the grocery store in the 6 pack case and my mom letting me keep the refund change. 🙂 We recycle all that we can, the kids take water bottles from home for all sports activities, and this summer we are hoping to have a compost bin and a rain barrel.
I will not litter! Even if its a small piece of gum wrapper. And I will go back to recycling

We use only bags for our groceries, not plastic bags.

I recycle practically everything. Am now making my cleaning products from scratch…as long as it’s green.

I recycle
We moved this last year from a rented condo where anything other than recycling plastic and glass was made quite difficult. We now lease a lovely home and have increased our recycling to include paper and tin cans. Some of the paper products were saved to help starting fires in our fireplace for heating. We also purged our closets and gave all reusable garments to the American Cancer Society in memory of a dear aunt that died of breast cancer last year. The garments that were pass the wearable age went into our rag bag…so helpful when you have a spill or a diy project! Now that Spring is here we are going to start a compost pile.
I am not entering the giveaway (though think its a great one) but rather logging in to say I have complete and utter ‘Cookie Shame’ when looking at your Earth Day cookies. You are such a talent! I’m so not (in the cookie decor department at least)
I recycle as much as possible, pick up recyclables along the road when I take my dog for walks, and try to support local as much as possible.
Not entering the giveaway. Love your Earth Day cookies, the blue colour is gorgeous.
planning to buy a car with better gas milage – wish I could get a hybrid.
No more plastic bottles or plastic bags. We have a filter on the tap water & only carry cloth bags for groceries and misc. We recycle paper, newspaper, glass, & cans. Go Mother Earth!

I’ve changed to green/environmental friendly household products to make to help care for our planet. 🙂 It’s absolutely the right thing to do.

so cute and great giveaway! I hope you’re doing well and had a great weekend
This is to stinking cute. What a great job. I would love it if you showed it off at my new linky party @ Kampenlane.com.
I can’t wait to see what else you create.

Cloth bags at the supermarket. Recycle all paper, glass, allowable plastic. Grow my own herbs and veggies all summer.

These are incredibly innovative! Well done! And I’ve begun to bring reusable bags to the grocery stores 🙂
I’m using green cleaning products in our home. And you know what? They do clean better with less!
We plan on severely limiting our use of paper towels this year. I’ve placed a stack of reusable towels where our paper towel holder used to dwell and am planning on sewing a bunch of reusable towels that velcro together and wrap around a paper towel holder!
at home I turn off the shower when is not necessary and all the time try to beat my record in order to don´t waste water and at school on weekends I bring my thermo to buy coffee and don´t waste more cups we have enough waste already.
I love to garden so, I have added a 50 gallon drum behind my garage to collect rain water to water my veggie garden.
I recycle trash as well as food scraps (compost) & repurpose things at home, in my garden or by donating them.
I’m teaching my children to recycle. My daughter can’t say the word “recycle” yet. It always makes me laugh as she follows me to our recycle bin and says, “We’re putting stuff in the ‘psycho bin’.” 😉
Tryinh to plant my own vegetables and fruits, cutting down on paper towels, and plastic..
I recycle and plant my own veggies

I plan to continue to recycle and use reusable water bottles.
