I’m participating in The Switch & Save Challenge, trying a variety of Arm & Hammer products and sharing my experiences with you!
It’s now been several weeks since I switched to using the Arm & Hammer Spinbrush ProClean toothbrush and I have to say I’m really loving the “fresh from the dentist chair” feeling I have every day.
I know that choosing the right toothpaste can be just as important as the right toothbrush. Picking a toothpaste isn’t as easy as it used to be.
Choosing the right Toothpaste
According to Better Homes and Gardens, here is what to look for in choosing a toothpaste:
- Look for ADA seal – It has undergone independent clinical studies required by the ADA, and this seal means a toothpaste is safe and that it does what it says it will do.
- Fluoride – It strengthens teeth and reduces the incidence of cavities. —It’s not just for kids! Adults need fluoride too!
- Sensitive Teeth – If you have receding gum lines or are sensitive to cold you may benefit from pastes which contain potassium nitrate or strontium chloride. Than can help diminish the discomfort by buffering the nerve endings and shutting down pain signals.
- Whitening Agents – Most whitening formulas are abrasive, and — used regularly for long periods of time — may harm tooth enamel. If you want to use whitening toothpaste, try using it only every other time you brush, not all the time.
- Fights Gingivitis – The average person probably doesn’t need this product, but dentists say, they will recommend it to patients with early signs of gum disease.
According to Dr. Eric Spieler, D.M.D., a dentist in Philadelphia who also lectures at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, “You can brush with plain old Acme fluoride toothpaste and have gorgeous teeth. If you brush and floss, use a regular toothpaste with fluoride, and get regular dental checkups — you’ll do fine.”
Remember if you don’t want to have to breath down your family’s neck to get them to brush…..you can print this great reminder to hang in the bathroom

How do you get your family to remember to brush their teeth?
One more great reason to smile…you can save $4.00 and $2.00 on the Arm & Hammer Spinbrush and replacement heads .
A few things that I LOVE about the Spinbrush
- I love how the brushes spin and clean my teeth while I brush – I don’t get that kind of clean with a manual toothbrush.
- I love that I can buy replacement heads, no need to buy a whole new toothbrush
- I love that there are many different colors and styles available for my whole family (no need to which toothbrush is mine)
- I love how portable it is – I can just toss the Spinbrush in my suitcase and no need to worry about a charging base.
- I love the great price of just $9
- and last but not least……..the coupons!! The coupons make it so affordable you have no excuse!!

I remind my grandsons to brush by starting to sing the “Happy Birthday” song. When I finish the song a second time, it’s time to check the job they’ve done. (Sometimes we need a third rendition!)
my girls are 2-4-6 and are still at that age where they want to brush ten times a day. ~ thanks for the giveaway ? Love Abounds
We bought my daughter a flashing light up toothbrush. (She is two.) I brush them first, then we turn off the lights and she “brushes” away till the blinking stops. She loves it!
I love that sign! May have to use it here! Usually my boys are pretty good about remembering to brush because we have it built into their morning and bedtime routines. The younger boys have a special rinse that turns their teeth blue until they brush it all off.
I make it a regular part of the morning/ night routine.
We made it a family thing before bed. My husband, myself and our two boys (2 & 4) all go into the bathroom to brush our teeth together before bedtime. In the morning it’s a bit different because of schedules but they know as soon as they both wake up they they can go into the BR to brush their pearly whites.
I always make sure tey have their favorite toothpaste and tooth brushes to use. Plus I really really nagg at them three times a day. Plus they are at the dentist every six months.

I TELL THEM THAT IF THEY DO NOT BRUSH MORNING N NITE THAT ALL THEIR TEETH WILL GET ROTTEN AND FALL OUT, N THEN THEY CAN NEVER EAT MOVIE THEATER POPCORN AGAIN FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIFE. LOL AND NO TOOTH FAIRY WILL EVER LEAVE THEM A PENNY EITHER…..
I just have to say “brush your teeth” and I’m usually listened to.
We remember because it is very routine in our house. My children are creatures of habit, so if I forget they will remind me! 🙂
I give each child a chore chart for the week of Mon-Sun. They each have different chores, but “Brush teeth” is number 2 on that list for all 3 and no tv, games, or play is allowed until their charts are completed. Works for us.
My children are older and because they’ve both been through braces and don’t want to go back there again, they take good care of their teeth including brushing! When someone has stinky breath we wonder out loud “Did someone forget to brush?” leaving my children with the impression that good tooth brushing allows for fresh clean smelling breath!
I have a tooth brushing chart taped to the inside of the medicine cabinet. they check off when they brush their teeth!
I would forget to brush my son’s teeth every day unless I had some sort of reminder. Since I’ve been brushing my own teeth for over 30 years, it’s an ingrained habit for me. So what I do is brush his teeth when I brush my teeth. Sometimes that means brushing my teeth a little later than I normally would, or out of order from my typical schedule, but I’d never leave the house without fresh breath, so I know his teeth will get brushed.
It’s a bed time thing. And mornings I say “Brush your teeth”. 🙂 no prob. here.
we’re in the habit of brushing in the shower so that we remember to do it and so that toothpaste doesn’t get all over the mirror and sink.
Our 4 year old is great about remembering, he won’t even go to bed without brushing his teeth. I guess we trained him well! LOL
It’s just an automatic thing!
All I have to do is say “bed time” and they know that means to start the bed time routine which begins with brushing teeth.
we do it before bed time so we remember!!
I’m still trying to motivate myself to brush before bed every night, but I’m pretty fear motivated so I try to remind myself of the horrors of my teeth falling out. The “sugar bugs” thing never motivated me as a kid, because I would cut out sugar and say I didn’t need to brush my teeth. But when my orthodontist said “It’s not the germs that cause cavities, it’s them going to the bathroom in your mouth that causes cavities” I thought that was SO GROSS that I started brushing much more diligently. It was also more true, since it is the waste products of the bacteria that cause decay.
We use the morning/night time routine. Plus our DD used an inhaler & needs to brush after each use. She is 20 and never had a cavity. So must be working.
thanks for the chance to win the visa giftcard.
Routine…routine…boring but it works! Can’t wait to print and hang your printable! Another great reminder!!! So cute! THANKS!
Establishing a night time routine is the best way our family remembers!
I have three different varieties of tooth cleaners in a drawer in our bathroom along with many style of brushes. We also have the spin brush, manual and other items. But the main encouragement would be by example.
I let my kids pick out what tooth brush they want, and tell them that if they don’t brush their teeth, they have to use the regular, old, boring toothbrush. It works every time!
We talk regularly about the importance (health & beauty) of nice clean teeth. It works! my four kids have to remind me on occasion that they need to go brush!! Thank you for the chance on the contest! 25 bucks would buy a few toothbrushes at our house!
I show my kids my teeth and tell them this is what happens when you don’t brush your teeth when you are a kid. It has worked for me….lol
Lisa
We have just made it part of the going to bed routine. It’s the last thing we do before we go to bed!
The only way to make sure they have brushed their teeth. . .is to ask them 🙁 When I’m not home. . .well. . .I’m sure some teeth don’t get brushed. New toothbrushes/toothpaste is *usually* a motivator for at least a day or two though!
We always kept a regular schedule when my kids were little. Now I try to remind them how important it is to keep their children on a regular schedule.
Just reminders of what can happen to your teeth if you don’t brush is good enough.
Ok don’t laugh but….I do the mom thing and yell, “Hey, have you brushed your teeth?” Then if no one has…they run like angels to the bathroom and create a huge mess brushing their little pearly whites!
hehe!
We keep toothbrushes in a cute little container so the kids are excited to brush the “germ bugs” away…
With my son, I made up a song that was super easy to remember, and we’d sign it every time he brushed his teeth. He got such a kick out of it.
I say ‘GO BRUSH YOUR TEETH’ 🙂
Ok, usually after they get dressed in the morning or put their pj’s on at night I ask them if they have brushed their teeth…then I say the above if they have not 🙂
My daughter is only 2 so it’s my responsibility to make sure she brushes!!
How do I get my family to brush? Since they are teenagers now I’m hoping its instealed in their brain from when they were little to brush. But years ago it was just part of getting ready in the morning. Although I loved your sign in this post so much that I will have to copy and post it in the bathroom now.
I don’t have one, but would love to have a framed print to hang in the bathrooms as a reminder!
I have been very fortunate that both my kids have been very self consious about brushing their teeth two to three times a day!!! I’ve encouraged them since they were old enough to hold their own tooth brush 🙂
Be glad when she has a boyfriend or is interested in someone cause she will be brushing all the time
I tell my son that we need to get all the icing (or whatever we had to eat) out of our teeth and he happlily grabs his toothbrush and starts. Half way through he says “Gotta get all the icing out!”
We keep our toothbrushes and toothpaste in the kitchen…much easier to remember to brush right after eating. Thanks!
My kids know that brushing their teeth is their “ticket” to the fun part of our bedtime routine… Story time! They can’t sit down with me til their breath is Monty fresh!
Oops, minty fresh 🙂
it’s just my husband and i. and we brush out of habit. i love the no bedtime stories until clean teeth idea…thanks!
I help my family remember to brush by all brush at the same time.
My dh and I have a regular routine. We allow our son to play with his nintendo ds only after he is done brushing. That seems to coerce him to brush and floss!
