Ahhh, cookies and coffee…….two of my favorite things.
Growing up, both sets of my grandparents lived next door to each other in the same neighborhood we lived in. My parents actually met because they were neighbors.
My brother and I were pretty lucky kids, not only having all 4 grandparents so close by, but they were grandparents that loved to let us spend the night. It’s where I learned how to play dominoes, count change, and make sugar popcorn. It’s also where I was first introduced to coffee.
My parents and grandparents were all big coffee drinkers. I remember grandma pulling out the red gingham mugs, filling them half full of coffee, then lots of milk to cool it off and a spoonful of sugar to sweeten it up. She’d set us up at the table with a few Lorna Doones and my brother and I would dunk our cookies in our “coffee” for a special treat.
Nowadays, I drink my coffee with just a touch of cream, and no sugar but I still LOVE to dunk my cookies in my cup of joe!
This past weekend I baked cookies that tasted just like they were dunked in coffee, and made my house smell like I walked into a Starbucks. Made with instant cappuccino, and topped with white chocolate…….they are insanely delicious.

How To Make Cappuccino Cookies
If you’re looking for a new cookie recipe, or have a coffee lover in your house……you’re going to want to try these Cappuccino Cookies……the white chocolate is like having whipped cream on top, with a sprinkle of cocoa powder or cinnamon. Perfect for afternoon tea or I can just picture serving these at a shower.
(full printable recipe at the end of this post)
Using a small bowl or cup combine instant cappuccino and hot water (not boiling) stir to make a paste and set aside. Then using a large mixing bowl, combine butter and sugar and beat until smooth, add an egg yolk and cappuccino paste and continue beating until well combined.
Next, sift together flour and salt then slowly add to the mixture and beat until well combined. Separate the dough into 2 balls and wrap in plastic and chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
After the cookie dough has chilled, preheat your oven to 375° F and line 2 cookie sheets with parchment paper. Unwrap one of the balls of dough, and roll out 1/4″ thick between 2 sheets of parchment or waxed paper. Cut out using 2½” round or square cookie cutter and place them on prepared cookie sheets one inch apart. (repeat with the other ball of dough).
Bake cookies for 10 minutes, or until golden brown. Let them cool on the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire racks, using a spatula to cool completely.
After cookies have completely cooled, melt a little white chocolate in the microwave and spoon chocolate over cookies and spread using the back of a spoon.
Dust with cocoa powder or cinnamon.
If you’re not a coffee lover………give them a try………this might be the way to learn to drink what all the cool kids are drinking {wink}
Are you a coffee lover? If so, how do you drink it?….do you dunk cookies in your coffee?

Cappuccino Cookies Recipe
Made with instant cappuccino, and topped with white chocolate these Cappuccino Cookies are insanely delicious.
Ingredients
- 6 tablespoons instant cappuccino (I used Hills Brothers French Vanilla flavored)
- 1 tablespoon hot water
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 egg yolk, lightly beaten
- 2½ cups all-purpose flour
- pinch of salt
- 8 ounces white chocolate
- unsweetened cocoa powder or cinnamon, for dusting
Instructions
- Using a small bowl or cup combine the cappuccino and hot water (not boiling) stir to make a paste; set aside.
- Using a large mixing bowl, combine butter and sugar; beat until smooth and well combined, then beat in the egg yolk and cappuccino paste.
- Sift together the flour and salt, slowly add to mixture and beat until well combined.
- Halve the dough, shape into balls, wrap in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour
- Preheat oven to 375°. Line 2 cookie sheets with parchment paper.
- Unwrap one of the balls of dough, and roll out 1/4" thick between 2 sheets of parchment or waxed paper. Cut out using 2½" round or square cookie cutter and place them on prepared cookie sheets one inch apart. (repeat with other ball of dough)
- Bake for 10 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool on the cookie sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire racks, using a metal spatula to cool completely.
- After cookies have completely cooled, melt chocolate in microwave according to package directions. Spoon chocolate over cookies and spread using back of spoon.
- Dust with cocoa powder or cinnamon.
Notes
**addition to 20 mins prep, allow for 1 hour to chill dough Without white chocolate topping, the cookie will remain crisp, and are just as delicious. Topping the cookies with chocolate will yield a softer cookie with a crisp edge. We enjoyed the cookies both ways, but with the chocolate was our favorite.

Such pretty cookies! I am sure they taste great too:)
These look absolutely wonderful, I love coffee flavored desserts/cookies! I subscribed to get email updates of your blog, I love all your great ideas!
Oh Cheryl, These look amazing. I adore cookies with powerful flavors. Love your little mugs and and cookie plates too!
Why, aren’t these just gorgeous?!? One of my best friends is a huge coffee drinker, she would love these!! I’ll have to give this recipe a try and test it out on her … if all else fails at least I’ll be able to enjoy the deliciousness 😉
These are lovely Cheryl! And perfect for a coffee break (or maybe even sneak one for breakfast too).
The recipe sounds yummy. I cannot wait to try it
I think it is always so wonderful when kids are able to live close enough to their grandparents for frequent visits and sleepovers! Your memories of red gingham coffee mugs are sweet. I love the look and the sound of these cookies, they are beautiful.
Your photos are absolutely beautiful. And, those cookies look great.
Wow…grandparents that live next door to each other. That is awesome!
They look delicious! I’m not a fan of white chocolate tho, so I’m going to make them in just a bit with semi-sweet chocolate instead.
I looooove coffee and am super excited to try these!!
Such cute cookies! I’m a sucker for anything that involves coffee. 🙂
Oh my gosh I must have these cookies! They’re so cute and right up my alley – I love all things cappuccino/coffee. Yum.
Love cookies with my coffee, never thought about using a coffee flavoured cookie though. Will have to try these they looks scrumptious. Thanks for sharing the recipe 🙂
I love coffee and I love cookies especially coffee flavored cookies but sadly I am not a dunker. The sogginess of the cookie gives me the heebee jeebies! And to think I have ALL the necessary ingredients… except for eggs (I don’t think boiled eggs would work, ha ha!)
Now here is the really important question….. did you get your fork and spoon at World Market? I absolutely LOVE them!! Are they the petite dessert size? or full sized? Yes I have seen this style for a long while and have been coveting them every since I first saw them…. they simply make my heart go pitter patter. (and a little birdie told me I might, just might get a few for mother’s day but I think they are looking for a full sized fork & spoon. sigh…. one way or the other they are simply precious!)
Thank you for sharing this recipe!! I do believe my family will be tickled when they find them after school tomorrow!
Oh these sound so good! I love coffee and sweets, so these are right up my alley! I loved hearing about your grandparents as well… you were very lucky indeed to all live so close!
You just made factory cookies look silly! 🙂 Beautiful!
Cheryl, these are “almost” too pretty to eat! They sound so good, and of course, look amazing!
I would love to dunk a few of these in my morning coffee!
These cookies look wonderful. Thank you for sharing the recipe.
Very fun idea to use that instant cappuccino in these cookies. I have mine with a double espresso!
So delicious, Cheryl! Your pics are magnificent!
These look amaaaaazing! Can’t wait to try them!!
These look amazing! You had me at ‘makes the house smell like Starbucks’….yes, please! Thanks for the recipe and the trip down memory lane. My grandpa always had a cup with him. The first time he held a new baby he would give him/her a bit of cool coffee off a spoon ‘to start ’em off right’. haha
Those look so, so good!!! So funny…I used to eat Lorna Doone’s at my grandparents’ house, too! 🙂
Pretty, pretty pictures….as always!
{And hey…I like how your first post is a full post. Is that new? Love it!}
These look incredible!
Can’t wait to try this recipe! One question, how did you spread the the white chocolate so perfectly on the cookie?
My grandparents were huge coffee lovers as well. I remember they would have a set coffee time and no matter what they were doing would stop to have a cup.
What a perfect recipe! Coffee and cookie all in one. Love it!
I love coffee, especially with some homemade sweetened whipped cream swirled in. These cookies are just lovely, I want one right now! How you topped them reminds me of my favorite brownie…if you’re craving these cookies in brownie form, check out the cappuccino brownies on my site!
I’m with you Cheryl~
LOVE a cookie with my coffee!
Your pictures are lovely!
Hugs sweet girl!
Wish we could share a cup of coffee one day!
Maybe we will!

Just made these and WOW they are so good!! The flavor was even better than I could have imagined! (…and I even used a cheapie store brand type of mocha flavored instant cappuccino, lol) Thanks so much for this recipe! 🙂
I couldn’t think of a better cookie. I’m pinning this to make later (when my waistline will allow me to eat cookies).
Simply delicious!
Oh my! I can NOT wait to make these. I will have to substitute dark chocolate though, we aren’t big fans of white chocolate.
you had me at “cappuccino”
Can I add brown sugar and vanilla to this recipe or will it interfere with the cappuccino taste?
