Back to School Pictures

I mentioned the other day, we started back to school Monday. Isn’t that insane? it’s the middle of the summer. What happened to school starting in the fall?
If I was president I would make ALL schools start after Labor Day! haha
Some days I can’t fathom the thought that our youngest is walking the halls of high school and driving!
Life moves SO fast sometimes………we need to remind our selves and our children, who always want to “grow up” so fast……to SLOW DOWN stop rushing thru life and appreciate the moments that you have now!
Like many families, every year we take the traditional “first day of school pictures” before she hops in her dad’s truck for a ride to school. I think he’s enjoying that ride this year more than ever, since it will probably be the last year she will need a ride. {sniff sniff}
I don’t think my parents took first day of school pictures when we were growing up, so I ‘m not quite sure when the trend became so big. But it’s certainly fun looking back at the outfits the girls put SO much thought into, what hairstyle trends they were sporting, and what backpacks they carried……… it’s a tradition they always look forward to on the first day of school!!- we should take “mom’s first day” pictures to and see how grey she turns each year! {or NOT}
Getting ready for a new school year is such a big part of your childs life, shopping for school supplies, a new wardrobe, meeting new teachers, making new friends……have fun documenting some of those details with your camera.
My friend Rebecca of Simple As That has a Back to School Photo Checklist you can download and print for free! So when you are teary-eyed dropping those little ones off on their first day you can use this list and be inspired with her photo ideas and prompts, before you blow kisses as they walk thru those doors to a new chapter in their life.

I do take back to school pictures!! My little girl starts kindergarten and my son is in second grade! I love comparing the first and last day pictures and they love seeing how much they’ve grown!!!
I liked Cherokee USA on Facebook.
We homeschool, but I still take “first day” pics each year. It’s amazing to see how much Abby changes year to year. I also put these pics in her scrapbook.
My Memaw took pictures of us on our first day back to school as well. They are pretty funny to look at now and laugh about what was in style at the time! LOL!

I shared the post on FB. Actually twice, because I didn’t think it worked first. LOL!
Take first day of school pictures every year in close to the same spot!
I can’t wait to take my daughter’s first day of school pictures on her first day of kindergarden next Monday! Though the thought of her actually going to school is very scary especially now that it’s so soon!

School year here doesn’t start until the day after Labour Day (been that way since I was a kid) Students then go until almost the end of June too!
My Mom was probably so darn happy to get seven kids out the door after the summer ended that taking a photo on the first day was the last thing on her mind. LOL
Glad you took this photo and shared with us though. Your daughter is a beauty and so very photogenic. Best wishes to her for a great Sophomore year!
My oldest is only 2 1/2 so, I’m not at the back to school phase yet. I know it’ll come all too soon though! Even though he doesn’t go back to school, I still take lots of pictures all the time! I just can’t help it.
Growing up my mom always took pictures of us. I’m starting my last year of college this fall and have been sure, every year, to take a picture and send it to her!
Last year he started kindergarten and you can bet I took some pictures. School starts on Monday and my camera will be ready for the first grade pictures!
I don’t remember any pictures other than the normal “class” pictures. As for the first day of school, I have guilt every year for not doing it (3 kids. 3rd gr, 6th gr & a senior) especially when I look at everyone else’s that they took time to do!
Tweeted it!
Shots in front of door. Shots in front of school marquee. Shot in front of classroom door. Shot with teacher. Shot sitting at desk. Shots of details, name tags, backpacks hung up….aahh…my girls are going into 1st & 5th grades….

Our first two years of homeschooling I have sweet pictures of my boys holding up their first completed assignments. However, this year they wanted to start early and I missed getting a picture. (Maybe I should just stage one!)
I took pictures when my girls first started school but I have to admit I have taken pictures since. When I grew up (in the UK) we would take pictures when you changed schools because you changed uniforms. I miss the fact that I won’t have pictures of my kids in over-sized uniforms (“you’ll grow into it!!”) 🙂
My oldest is starting kindergarten this year!! 🙁 I am marching her out this week for a photo shoot! I want to make this a yearly occasion! I also plan to bring my camera alone with to target when we go buying school supplies!
I liked the cherokee facebook page!!
I liked the tidymom facebook page!! (cant believe I wasn’t a fan already I love your blog!)

Yes I always take 1st day BTS pics but having a boy makes it a bit less fun. Girls are so much more concerned about that 1st day look. I think Max wears a similar ensemble every year lol
We always take first day of school pictures-from preschool right on up. We always have to get at least one in front of the school flag. The year my oldest started Kindergarten it was raining-so I had my husband bring the flag inside and still took his picture in front of it!
I like TidyMom on FB.
I take my DD pictures in the same spot in front of our house each year! I’m a digital scrapbooker so I scrap these pictures! Thanks for the chance! I love Target!
You are absolutely right about school starting before Labor Day. It doesn’t make sense. The last day of school in May, it’s still too cold and windy. Back, in August, still 90+ degrees. It makes no sence.
I love to enter the Target Cherokee giveaway!
Thank you,
Cristy
I do take back to school pics but this year will be really special! We are homeschooling our 6th and 1st grade daughters for the first time ever!! They are so excited!!! 🙂
Oops, forgot to say, we did do first day of school pictures beginning last year, Kindergarten. It was so hot my little guy was wearing shorts and short sleeves fromhis summer clothes. New shoes, though 🙂
My son isn’t old enough for back to school pictures yet, but you can be sure I will take them. I’m already agonizing over the first days of preschool and kindergarten.
sadly I’m not very good at remembering and we homeschool, so even more important to do… I’m making a note now to take pics this year!!
already a fan of Tidy Mom on FB!
Just “liked” Cherokee on FB!
I have taken them of my niece and nephew and will when I do have kids!
When my siblings and I were young, my mom would video-tape the return from our frist day of school each year. Mornings were usually too hectic for pre-school pictures, but she’s capture our excitement as we came home after the first day of a new school year.
p.s. I’m already a fb fan of TidyMom. 😀
My son isn’t old enough to go to school, but when we were younger, my mom took a picture of my brother and I in the exact same spot on the first day of school from Preschool to senior year. I plan to do this with my children, because I love seeing the changes!

My kids are still in preschool all year long, so they don’t have a “first day of school” yet. But next year I’ll be taking pics for sure!! My parents never took pics of me and I wish they had – would have been a fun memory! Thanks for the chance!
My oldest is just starting kindergarten. I can’t wait to take his first real back to school picture. It will def. be one to treasure!
