The stars aren’t the only ones stealing the show this awards season. King’s Hawaiian bread soaked in a rich dark chocolate custard topped with more chocolate before being baked, served warm with raspberry sauce and Bailey’s whipped cream becomes a Dark Chocolate Bread Pudding with Raspberry Sauce. Simple, yet elegant enough for the red carpet.
Happy Monday!! I hope you were able to spend Valentine’s Day with someone you love, whether it’s a significant other, family or girlfriends. Did you watch the SNL 40th reunion last night? It was 210 nostalgia-packed minutes of star-studded comedy bliss. We watched the entire show, including the red carpet which, included pretty much everyone who’s famous.
The show was perfectly placed on a Sunday evening, just one week before the Oscars, and a few weeks after the Grammy’s and Golden Globes. Awards season is always one of our favorite TV times of the year, as our Sunday evenings heat up with all of our favorite celebrities. It makes you want to dress up and throw a party!
Next weekend it’s the Oscars – great movies, grand speeches, flowing gowns, and black and white tuxes. Whether you are throwing a party with all your friends to watch as Hollywood’s elite walk down the red carpet or you’re just planning on curling up on the sofa — celebrate the biggest night for movies with a decadent, award-worthy dessert, Dark Chocolate Bread Pudding with Raspberry Sauce and Bailey’s Whipped Cream. The perfect “fancy without actually being fancy” dessert.
If you aren’t familiar, bread pudding is a cross between a custard and a cake. It can be made in advance. The comfort food dessert is perfect for serving a crowd family-style, but can also be prepared in smaller individual servings, making it a little more elegant. With single-serving bread pudding, you get the flavor of all that comfort food in a dressed-up package.
I’ve partnered with KING’S HAWAIIAN bread to put on the glitz and create an awards season recipe worthy of a cocktail party or viewing party. We love having King’s Hawaiian rolls with dinner and for mini sandwiches. I’ve also been known to just grab one as a snack, so I knew our favorite sweet dinner rolls would be perfect for a tasty chocolate bread pudding.
Bread pudding is made with stale bread. I opened up and separated a package of King’s Hawaiian dinner rolls, and left them to sit open on the kitchen counter overnight, then cut into cubes. You could even cut them into cubes the day before and leave them spread out on a pan overnight to get stale as well.
When I was ready to make the chocolate bread pudding (full recipe at the end of the post) ; I got started by melting some dark chocolate, whisked a few eggs, brown sugar and vanilla, and add the cooled chocolate.
Next you probably should add the cream and milk, then fold in the bread cubes. But I accidentally added the bread cubes, and realized I had not added the milk and cream. So I carefully added the milk and cream after the bread, and it all worked out just fine — so either way, you should be good. Set the bread aside to soak for about 30 minutes, gently stirring occasionally.
I used 2 different-sized ramekins. I sprayed them with cooking spray, placed them on a baking sheet, filled with the custard soaked bread, and top with a few chocolate chips** and placed them in the oven.
**Note, I placed my bread pudding in the oven for the photo and realized I had forgotten to add the chocolate chips to the top. So I pulled them out real quick and added them. That’s why you don’t see the chocolate chips in my picture as they are going in the oven. — are you seeing a trend here? It’s really hard to take pictures while making a recipe. 😉 Props to those who pull it off all the time.
While the bread pudding was in the oven I chopped some fresh raspberries ( you could use frozen as well) and mixed them into some seedless raspberry jam that I had warmed slightly in the microwave.
I knew I wanted to make whipped cream to top it all off When I reached in the fridge to grab the heavy whipping cream I spied a little bottle of Baily’s Irish Cream in the refrigerator leftover from the holiday and decided to add that to the whipped cream and you guys……it made it extra special! Of course, you can totally make the whipped cream without the Bailey’s because it’s the sweet King’s Hawaiian rolls that make this Chocolate Bread Pudding with Raspberry Sauce show-stealing and red carpet-worthy!!
Viewing Party spread……with fresh flowers and wine.
I threw together a 2015 Oscars Word Search, you can play during commercial or before the red carpet. You could make it a minute to win it game and see who can find the most words in a minute, or just see who can find all the words first. I filled the Oscars word search with the 2015 Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress nominees, and a few Academy Awards themed words.
Just click the image to download your free 2015 Oscars Word Search and print at home.
What/who are your favorites to win? Since American Sniper is the only movie on the nominee list that we’ve seen, I’m not sure I can make an educated guess…….but I totally think it’s Oscar-worthy, as well as Bradley Cooper 🙂

Dark Chocolate Bread Pudding with Raspberry Sauce
Dark Chocolate Bread Pudding, served warm with raspberry sauce and Bailey's whipped cream. Simple, yet elegant enough for company. PRINTABLE RECIPE at TidyMom.net
Ingredients
For Bread Pudding
- 1 1/2 cups dark chocolate chips, divided
- 4 eggs, room temperature
- 3/4 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups milk, at room temperature
- 1 cup heavy cream, at room temperature
- 8 cups cubed (1- 12 pack package) KING’S HAWAIIAN ® Sweet Rolls, stale
For Raspberry Sauce
- 1/2 cup seedless raspberry jam
- 1/4 cup fresh raspberries, chopped
For Whipped Cream
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream, cold
- 1-2 tablespoon Bailey's Irish Cream, cold
- 1 tablespoon sugar
Instructions
- Melt 1 cup of chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl at 30-second intervals, stirring at each interval until smooth. Set aside to cool.
- In a large bowl, whisk eggs, beat in brown sugar and vanilla. Blend in melted chocolate until mixture is very smooth. Fold in bread pieces and gradually stir in milk and cream and gently mix. Set aside to soak for 30 minutes or more, stirring occasionally to ensure that the bread is evenly soaked.
- While bread is soaking, preheat oven to 350°F. Grease 8 ramekins with cooking spray and place on baking sheet.
- Evenly divide soaked bread in ramekins, filling each almost full and sprinkle with remaining chocolate chips on top.
- Place baking sheet with ramekins into the oven and bake for 40-45 minutes or until bread pudding is set and no longer wobbly inside.
- While the bread pudding is baking, prepare the raspberry sauce by warming the raspberry jam in microwave or stove top and mix in fresh raspberries. Set aside
- Prepare whipped cream; Using a cold mixing bowl and metal whisk place the sugar into the mixing bowl and add the whipping cream and Bailey's. Whisk with an electric mixer just until the cream reaches stiff peaks. Store in an airtight container (for up to 10 hours) until ready to serve. If needed, whisk again for 10 to 15 seconds.
- Serve bread pudding warm in ramekins or invert onto a plate; drizzle raspberry sauce over the top along with a dollop of whipped cream. Enjoy
Notes
Left overs can be store covered in the refrigerator. Simply warm bread pudding in microwave for 30-45 seconds, warm raspberry sauce and whisk whipped cream. Assemble and enjoy. OPTIONAL:
- You can leave the Bailey's Irish Cream out of the whipped cream if you wish.
- You can replace some of the cream or milk in the bread pudding with a few tablespoons of Bailey's Irish Cream

Wow, what a stunning dessert! I’ve never made bread pudding, kind of odd given my husband loves it. We love King’s Hawaiian Rolls, so I think this recipe is going to be a must make. Of course I’ll have to buy two packages of rolls, they do not last fast in our house at all!
I love fancy-but-not-fancy desserts!! I also LOVE King’s Hawaiian rolls but never even considered using them in bread pudding, oh my gosh! So happening.
I love the chocolate and raspberry together!
😉 thanks for the suggestion my friend!
Cheryl this dessert looks incredible and raspberries and chocolate are my favorite combination. I haven’t seen American Sniper yet; however, I did watch Boyhood over the weekend. I was intrigued about how they were able to get the cast of actors together for so many years to film, but I felt the movie was very long and unnecessarily drawn out. Enjoy the Oscars!
We don’t go to many movies, but American Sniper was one we all really wanted to see. I’ll have to look up boyhood, I don’t know anything about it
Cheryl, this bread pudding is SO amazing! I am pretty sure I had bread pudding for the first time last year. I can only imagine how good it much be with the King’s Hawaiian bread! Pinned!
Thanks, our daughters had never had it and they were a little leery, saying “bread pudding” didn’t sound appealing, but they loved it!

What a gorgeous table setting and a lush, luxurious dessert for the Oscars! Fabulous idea to do bread pudding with Hawaiian bread. We totally enjoyed the SNL special last night…so many memories. And, I’m a life-long fan of the Oscars. We saw Birdman last week and the performances were amazing. I’m rooting for Michael Keaton for Best Actor!
Stale King ‘s Hawaiian rolls? It almost seems like an oxymoron. lol. I would have to hide them from myself. Thanks for the recipe.

Fantastic photos as usual, Cheryl! Every year I tell myself that I’m going to watch all of the Best Movie nominees before the Oscars, but it never happens. That being said, I still love watching the show, and eating something like this gorgeous bread pudding would make the night that much more enjoyable!
I love your photos, your table spread looks delightful! And as for the chocolate pudding, well, you had me at Bailey’s Irish Cream! 😉
I have an extreme dislike of soggy bread and did not enjoy bread & butter pudding as a kid. Does this come out like french toast texture; could you use cut up croissants?
