Quick and easy tips to conquer chaos, pull it all together and keep a tidy home. It’s easier than you think!
It’s no secret……I like a Tidy Home!
Hence the name, TidyMom.
Ever wonder HOW I got that title?
My oldest daughter assigned me that title years ago when we first got online. Does that girl know her mom or what? LOL
I’m not neurotic or one of THOSE moms. I don’t really LIKE to clean, I just LOVE the end result. I like to look around the house and see clean. I don’t like the stress of seeing a mess.
Trust me, I have piles of junk like everyone else, some are just hidden in closest (remember my Monica Closet?).
How do I keep my house looking tidy?
I’m going to share a few of my tips oh how I keep my house tidy
Don’t let it sit for later (Clean ASAP) – a mess is much easier to clean up when it happens. Once food or dirt is allowed to dry or soak in, it’s going to take a lot more time and elbow grease to clean it later.
Don’t Put it off – this is probably my BIGGEST household tip! Clean as you go. You’ll be amazed that many things only take a few minutes to do if you clean as you go, rather than hours of cleaning if you put it all off to do at once. If you stay on top of these things daily your house will look nice and you will be more organized and relaxed. Some of the things I do daily are:
- make my bed
- wipe down the bathroom after I have gotten ready – I keep Clorox wipes and a cloth diaper under the bathroom sink – and I give the bathroom a quick wipe down daily.
- clear the dinner table AND do dishes as soon as we finish eating.
- load the dishwasher any time there’s a dirty dish – it really only take a few seconds, instead of having a sink or counter piled with dirty dishes.
- wipe off the counters and table.
- sort mail, throw out junk.
- do at least one load of laundry
- fold and put away laundry as it comes out of the dryer
Set a Timer for Quick Clean Ups- Many days I will give myself 15 minutes and run thru a few rooms and just pick up stray times, fluff and straighten the room. You’ll be surprised how often this will motivate you to keep going. Get the kids to help – make it a game!
Dust While on the Phone – often if I’m on the phone with my mom or daughter, instead of sitting on the couch, I will get up and dust a room while we chat! Multi tasking is my friend
Don’t walk to another room empty handed – there’s almost ALWAYS something in a room that belongs some where else – don’t pass it up, grab it on your way – even if you just open a door and toss it in!
Clean up as you cook – I have a small kitchen, so I really get stressed if I have no room to cook or bake. Like wise, if you’re waiting on dinner in the oven, clean up the mess while it cooks.
I LOVE to come home to a Clean House- I try and pad my “to go time” by 15-30 minutes and do a quick run thru before I leave, put dirty dishes in the dish washer, wipe off counters, pick up stray items, even vacuum if I have time. I especially did this when I worked, that way I could walk in to a clean house and start dinner with out the stress of a messy house to pick up as well.

I love all of your ideas and was very proud that I do all of them but the timer. Even when I have Thanksgiving or other holiday dinners my "work" dishes are finished before we sit down to eat. It is really so easy. My dad taught us long ago to take it when you go and bring it when you come. I also do not have wastebaskets in any rooms but the kitchen. No matter what room you are in you are most likely going from it to the kitchen. If I had a two story home I would have one upstairs but it would most likely have anything in it unless we had company that needed to use it. Thank you for the chance to win this wonderful Silhouette Craft Cutter. Hugs Jean in Ohio I'm sorry but I do not have a blog as yet. I can't figure it out.

The items you have in your bullet points are things that I’m sure to do every day…only exceptions are when I am sick! 😉 Just doing those basic things really keeps the house looking nice, and they don’t take long to do. Keeps things from going downhill quickly.
Any Ideas on how to get yourself MOTIVATED to clean when it is needed instead of waiting? i am always putting it off and then before you know I have a ton of dishes to do and whatever ever else i let go? How do you get your spouse and child motivated to help out and clean up after themselves?
Thanks… love your site

I love these ideas. sometimes all I need is a little encouragement and some motivation like this to get me going. thanks for sharing!
Very good tips Cheryl! I dust while on the phone too… or even mop the floor! I think our apartment is pretty tidy, but ironically the messiest part is my own desk :))
I dust and put things away in other rooms while playing hide-and-go seek. I can usually get the main living area done in between counting, and on my way to look for her, I put things away/straighten other rooms.
I know this is an older post, but I just discovered your (fab!) website and wanted to share my list too. I’m a big fan of doing a little bit of work every day — and definitely love a morning & evening “shuffle.” Thanks for your creativity
Hi: I loooooove your blog and often reblog you in my personal blog, hope you don’t mind hehe. Great tips btw
Love your ideas and I was much better about so many of them before the kids left home. Now it doesn’t seem to need it as often and I get out of the habit. My favorite tip is cleaning up before you leave. I’m good about loading the dishwasher and run all of my laundry every day and change my sheets and wash them every day, but not so good about cleaning the clutter and mail off the kitchen island and sweeping up the kitchen. I’m headed right now to clear the clutter and hope to keep it that way.
Great tips and can easily say you’re my new favorite blog! I’m addicted!
This might just be my saving grace! I just came across your website…I can’t remember how I got here but I am so glad that I did! Since have a baby six months ago my house has become an overwhelming, much avoided chore….which keeps growing. I needed help getting my motivation back and getting on top of things. Thanks for the tips!
You have some of the same ideas that I have!!! I think we are somewhat alike. I love your site. So glad that I found it!!!
I love a tidy home, and my biggest tidy secret is keeping certain surfaces of a room clear of clutter, the ones that are first seen when you enter the room, like end tables, or tops of book shelves, and especially the dining room table. Just don’t look in my drawers (I have hideaways for the odds and ends of everyday life). Every spring I dump out the drawers in boxes and my girls and I go treasure digging and sort all the items that have accumulated over the year.
we have a list of chores on the fridge from monday to friday. We spend about 30 minutes each night and complete something from the list so we can enjoy our weekends.
Love your tips. I need to use them too. New follower.
I just started following your blog and I totally love it! why? because I’m just like youuuuu…I love the look and smell of a clean and organized home…it’s just makes me happy 🙂 —I’ve always done all those tips you gave except for the timer. And yes, it is a constant keeping up otherwise it becomes a big chore!
Thank you for this awesome blog and all your tips and ideas. It’s awesome to find people with the same ‘likes’ as you 🙂
Have a blessed day!!
Rosie
I think this site has just saved my relationship, because we get into a huff and puff about keeping the home clean. Thank you so much for your blog.
