My Favorite Hair Products: I’m Lovin’ It

“I love your hair”.…………those are the four words I hear most every time I leave the house.  Whether I’m at the drive thru, grocery store, airport or emergency room.  I get compliments from men, women, old and young.  It’s become a joke with my family, they roll their eyes every time they hear it………Well, ONE of them doesn’t roll her eyes, because SHE ‘s my stylist!  That’s right, my oldest daughter is a hair stylist! Which is great for me, because I’ve always been super picky about my hair and I’m a bit obsessive about hair products.

I thought it would be fun to share my favorite hair products .  My daughter recently moved to a brand spanking new salon, Elle Salon and Spa, if you are in or near Eureka, MO (St. Louis) be sure to ask for Heather.  Then you too can have strangers stop you on the street and tell you how much they love YOUR hair!  {wink}

Elle Salon and Spa is an Aveda Salon, and I’m gradually making the switch to Aveda products, so look for another post in a few months on my favorite Aveda products!

Hair Care Tips

I have thick hair with  just a little bit of wave.  This cut/style works great for me, and I can go 2-3 days with out washing, and I love my chunky highlights and lowlights.

favorite hair products

On towel dried hair I use a pea sized amount of:

1.  Matrix Vavoom Loosely Defined Texture Creme – smells wonderful and gives my hair amazing body and texture with out feeling to heavy or sticky.

2.  Enjoy Hair & Skin Treatment Oil- this fabulous product helps smooth out frizzies and gives my hair shine.  Especially great for use with flat irons! *LOVE LOVE LOVE this stuff!

then a small handfull of mousse

3.  Matrix Vavoom Volumizing Foam Mousse – gives my hair volume

I then dry my hair with a large round brush and vent brush.

4.  1″ Chi Flat Iron – definitely worth the money – we own 3 of them – and have tried all the cheaper ones….nothing compares!  1″ is all you need for any hair length ( you can also make curls using the 1″)

5.  Enjoy Cream Pomade – I rub a small amount on all my finger tips and run my fingers thru the ends of the front long pieces of my hair.  This gives it a “piecey” look and keeps if from looking frizzy.

6.  Big Sexy Hair – Spray & Play Harder – LOVE this hairspray! Gives me great hold without the stiffness!

**All products can be found on Amazon by clicking the links above, or ask your stylist.

You can see how well it even held up while we were touring Pebble Beach 17-Mile drive in Monterey with Dole.

I LOVE my FriendsPictured with me: Kristen, Brooke, Dana, Maggy, Shaina

So there ya go…….may seem a little excessive, but I promise, they all have a “job”.  I’ve tried eliminating one here and there, and was not as happy with the results.

Click here if you want to know another dirty little secret about my hair.

I’d love to hear about some of your favorite hair products!

My first I’m Lovin’ It link up :)

I don’t have any favorite hair products at the moment. I’m in the process of trying to find new favorites so your post is timely. I’m definitely going to look into #s 1 & 2 and maybe a new flat iron.

How exciting for your daughter Heather to be working in a brand spanking new salon and how fun for you to share all your hair care product preferences! They are working well for you because you do always look awesome.
My hair is very thick wavy and I wear it quite short (very boring!) I only need to use a little pomade in the morning and I’m good for the entire day.
    Thanks for hosting again Cheryl.

I love Aveda products, I like that they are all natural, but I’ve never tried their hair products. I think my favorite hair care product is Glossing Cream by Frédéric Fekkai. I have long thick wavy hair and in helps tame it and make it shiny.

    • TidyMom replied on June 10th, 2011 at 6:05 am

I used to use that Sylvie! Smells SOOO good!……you should try the Enjoy oil I use, I know it sounds odd to put oil in your hair but it’s AMAZING- I tried not using it for about a month and my hair was thick and frizzy with out it. – It’s currently my VERY VERY favorite!!

I’m so with you on the Big Sexy Hair Spray, lives up to it’s promises. I usually go thru phases with hair products, these days I”m loving Agadir Argan Oil. One thing I cannot live without and have been using for years, are you ready? V05 hairdresssing. In the tube. Works better for me than any of the many things I’ve tried.

If I had straight hair, I’d take you list right into Ulta and buy everything. ;)

I LOVE, LOVE Ouidad products for curly hair. I used to use them only when I felt like I could splurge. But, since I’ve been using them consistently, I’ve noticed a big difference in my hair. Now to move someplace that isn’t 95% humidity every day. ;)

    • TidyMom replied on June 10th, 2011 at 8:42 am

Amy do you tease your hair? even with my thick hair, I tease it to lift and give volume where I want it (on top)…… I used to use another great product from Big Sexy called “What a Tease- Backcomb in a bottle” it’s GREAT for lifting and teasing, without actually teasing your hair with a comb

How special to have your daughter as your hairdresser! I wish I had a hair dresser. We didn’t grow up with it and I guess I have just been too scared to put myself out there and trust someone I don’t even know. Hair tips are great because honestly I could use a hair makeover. I really need to get it cut, but just can’t decide on what would be the best cut for my hair. Oh, well. I will check out the hair products you listed and can’t wait to hear more about your favorite Aveda products and why they are your new favorites.

    • TidyMom replied on June 10th, 2011 at 8:45 am

Going to a new hairdresser IS scary. What I used to do was, when I saw someone with great hair or haircut, I’d ask where they get it cut……at least you’re not going in blind then.

I’m going to try the Enjoy oil – thank’s for the recommendation. I have super thick, curly/wavy hair that I recently tried straightening. My stylist recommended a few products that have been magical:

-J Beverly Hills Crazy Straight Serum
    – Aquage Sleek and Shine (spray for flat irons)
    – Babyliss Flat Iron

My friends were stunned at the transformation and said I looked like Pocahontas… a compliment, I think?

Bulk oil has identical and so many merits as original argan oil.

You may utilize a filtering equipment in order to complete this phase.
The skin is effectively and thooughly hydrated as the cream is
    absorbed.
