Family traditions are one of my favorite things about the holidays. It’s so special to have meaningful things that we do as a family year after year. When our girls were younger, my mom would give them an ornament each year and we would put their name on it. They get so excited when we put the tree up, to dig thru our ornament box and reminisce about each one. When Heather moved to her own place, she took all of “her” ornaments with her, so it made her new tree feel a little like home.
When it is time to put the tree up, they each place their ornaments where they want on the tree………I may be known to go around and “fix them” a little later 😉
For some reason, we don’t have many “family” ornaments. We have the “Our First Christmas Ornament” that is 27 years old and still standing!!! I love the idea of having a special ornament to represent our whole family though. This year I’m starting a new tradition! I want FAMILY ornaments……..that way when our last one goes and we have an empty nest, we don’t have an empty tree!
So it’s no doubt that I fell in love with the new Family Christmas Tree Ornament from The Vintage Pearl. Isn’t she a beauty?! I can’t wait to hang it on our tree.
Erin at The Vintage Pearl was so kind to send my family a Personalized Christmas Family Tree ornament . The ornament arrived in a small tan box nestled in padding and wrapped in a pretty pale blue ribbon accented with a pearl. Perfect for gift giving, if you’d like to give one as a gift.
Speaking of gifts…….. The Vintage Pearl products are all handmade by Erin and her team in their Tulsa, OK studio. They use quality materials like silver, gold, swarovski crystals and freshwater pearls. They have a large assortment of Handstamped Jewelry. It is always fun to have something unique and personalized just for you or someone special.

My family of three is still pretty new with my 19 month daughter and husband of 3 years. But our traditions are a mix up of his and mine and ours. We spend time with his family when they are available because living in a city where holidays mean working for locals is normal, we have to eat when we can. But I still stick to christmas morning as the time to open presents. My tradition that I’ve started with my daughter is making ornaments for our tree. Last year was salt dough ornaments. This year my friends surprised me with a visit for my 30th birthday and we went to a pottery place and painted ornaments. I want to continue this tradition with my family.
Traditions: making sure we spend with family, sledding tradition, food, and gift exchange
My favorite tradition currently is our Elf on the Shelf. It’s as much fun for me as it is for my 5 year old son, and now we have 2 brand new babies to bring into the fun!
My family goes to get hot chocolate or café au lait and beignets at Café du Monde on Christmas Eve every year.
I LOVE The Vintage Pearl! They have beautiful items. Our family’s tradition is that I buy my daughter & son their own special ornament & also a family one!
Ours centers around food! Appetizers on Christmas Eve and a Beef tenderloin with all the fixings on Christmas Day!
We have a family Christmas Eve gathering and watch all of the Christmas cartoons/movies that we used to when we were children.
We always do a Christmas Eve fondue, which is a tradition my husband’s family had when he was a kid growing up in Europe.
My favorite tradition is at night, in our pj’s we drive around and look at all the lights.
Our family tradition is to open stockings first, one at a time, and then move onto gifts. it is great fun and I love watching the surprised looks! I love the holidays!
I make everyone’s favorite cookie, we listen to holiday music, we decorate the tree together, we make holiday colored links to put all over the house, we love doing crafts, we light our advent candles, and we have so much fun together as a family and I love every second of it too! :o)
Thanks for a great giveaway Cheryl! We love to celebrate with a big family dinner and gift exchange Christmas Eve, then a very relaxed Christmas morning with just the kids 🙂
We try to always volunteer either at local free community dinners or spend time/meals with people who live in long term care who have no one to visit them. Makes the holiday much more precious!
our family tradition is to do a treasure hunt. when the kids were younger, daddy would take pictures to give them different clues to follow to find one of their gifts. Today, with our oldest 18, he has to work a little harder by giving them word clues. They love it! A couple of years ago we thought they were getting to old for it and they let us know they would never be to old!
Is it Christmas time yet? I can’t wait!
We love picking out a new ornament each year, selecting our tree, watching our favorite movies, and baking for family and neighbors. Never thought about a family ornament, great idea.
We decorate the tree together after Thanksgiving and make a personalized ornament each year
We usually just spend Christmas day playing board games and snacking on homemade goodies all day! 🙂
Each year I give my children an ornament. When they are placed on the tree we talk about the year they were given, I love this family tradition.
Our family tradition is to give our boys new pajamas and a Christmas book on Christmas Eve. We all get in our pj’s, read the new book, drink hot chocolate and bake cookies for Santa.
We always go to my mom’s house on Christmas Eve for a big family dinner, and also to celebrate my stepfather’s birthday.
We love traditions! We put up main trees- our family tree, a fun filled bright tree for the family room and then a small tree in my sons room with all of his ornaments!! We also open one gift on Christmas eve- it is our pajamas so we all look cute in christmas pajamas for pictures in the morning…..even though my husband will not wear them to bed- he is a good sport and will put them on in the morning:)
Christmas Eve we have lots food & just enjoy gabbing w/each other. Christmas Day alll the kids & grandkids come for The Christmas Story reading, opening presents and huge family dinner. Games follow.
Our family has lots of traditions but the one that means the most is before we open any presents on CHRISTmas morning one of the family reads the CHRISTmas story from Luke 2. It is considered an honor to be a one chosen to read the scripture.
Not yet, but looking forward to starting!
We always go and cut down our Christmas Tree together. All 7 of us. It never fails to create memories! Many opinions, muddy boots, sap everywhere….. And lots of Love!
We gave each of our boys ornaments each Christmas . They selected Hallmark series ornaments. As they marry they take them to put on their tree. That way they take memories of our family Christmas with them. Plus they think of us as they decorate their own tree. We also have breakfast casserole every Christmas morning. Love this ornament.
My three children are married with children, living away at college and living on their own. But every Christmas Eve everyone comes home and sleeps in their old room. The elves come later in the evening and leave pj’s for ALL on the front doorstep. Some go on to midnight mass, some are still wrapping gifts. We wake in the morning to a beautifully set dining room and prayers to Jesus Christ, our reason for the season. We open gifts after breakfast and spend our time together before everyone goes on their way to other Christmas Day obligations. I hope this never changes – there is no better feeling for a mom than to have her entire family all together.
I LOOOVE that ornament. I f I don’t win it, I will be buying it. Thank you so much.
We continued my childhood tradition of each kid getting a new ornament each year, but good point about needing family ornaments for after they move out!
My family does a diy ornament exchange every year
We have a morning breakfast, open gifts, have lunch together and take naps! Fun day!
We buy the kids a new ornament every year. I try to pick something that is representative of the past year (sports, favorite thing, etc.) We also decorate gingerbread houses and make Christmas cookies as a family. I love the Christmas season.
I do twelve days of Christmas each year with each child. Last year was focused on sharing your surprise for each day with someone else.
New pjs for Christmas morning the kids love it!
lots of food and family. We always start with stockings
We always got new PJ’s every Christmas Eve growing up (I think Mom wanted us to be “cute” in the early morning opening presents pictures) & now my girls each get fun Christmas PJ’s every year & they are so excited they get to open a present “early”!
We do the same ornament tradition as you! My sister and I always got to pick our own ornaments every year and I am now doing the same tradition with my kids. I also buy a White House Ornament every year for myself and both of my girls, starting with the year of their birth.
Our family has a gingerbread house decorating contest and we get really into it!! My son gave his gingerbread house a satellite dish last year and a monster truck parked in the driveway made from pretzels! lol It’s alot of fun!
What a great give away! We have lots of traditions at our house during the holidays. The one that I am most proud of is that since my boys were very little, On Christmas Eve, they have made Jesus a birthday cake completely by themselves. They find the recipe and decorate it by themselves. They leave a slice for Santa instead of Milk and cookies. I think he likes it because he keeps coming back for more! My oldest son is now almost 19 but I know he is looking forward to making their special cake this year too.
Traditions are what keeps my family focused on the real meaning of Christmas instead of materialistic things <3
Some favorites we have: Every year each one of our boys (3 of them!) get a special Christmas tree ornament in a special theme of something new or fun they've done during that year.
The whole family gets new PJ's on Christmas eve, then we read "Twas the night before Christmas" in front of our Christmas tree.
Baking Christmas cookies with my Mom & Sisters & all the kids in our family … with some of my Grandma's favorite Christmas cookie recipes!
all the ladies in my family get together every year to make christmas cookies, even my young nieces help! We also do a new christmas ornament each year, so this would be perfect!
On Christmas Eve the family gathers at my parents house and we have a little family Christmas pageant where the youngest grandchild and great grand child place baby Jesus in the manager.
We hand off the angel for the tree from the youngest to the oldest – so the tree is not completed until everyone is home for the holidays.
Our family has a Korean Christmas dinner with my parents and sisters and their kids. It is the best and will continue for years to come!
One of my favorite traditions is Christmas PJ’s and our ornament gift on Christmas eve!!
Even with 13 kids running around (yes…13! and I am the youngest), my mother made Christmas-shaped sugar cookies. Now I am an adult with my own 2 children and my sweet mother still keeps up the yearly tradition. It’s one of the family’s biggest get togethers we call “The Cookie Bake.” My mom (also known now as Grandma and Great-Grandma) makes the dough, cuts the shapes, and bakes over 700 cookies. The children, their spouses, and 40 grandkids and great grandkids gather together for the day to visit, eat, and decorate LOTS of cookies (and lick the occasional icing off their fingers 🙂 The Cookie Bake was even featured in the local paper one year. And, until my mother had her house remodeled a couple years ago, we had to rent out a local hall to have a enough room for all the cookie festivities. It’s an amazing tradition!
Our Christmas traditions include opening new homemade pjs on Christmas Eve and each person has to receive a new Christmas ornament each year.
When my kids were little I started a tradition of making a red and green construction paper chain to put on the Christmas tree counting down the days till Christmas. Each chain would have something special on it like “have a pizza party in front of the tree” or “drive around and look at the Christmas lights” or “make gingerbread houses”. I thought that one day my kids would grow tired of the chain but this year they are 18, 16 and 14 and they still expect the chain! Lol. Traditions create memories so I’m totally ok with it.
We watch A Christmas Carol every Christmas morning
We are going to the Christmas Tree Lighting in our town square tonight!! 23rd and Christmas Eve is spent at the inlaws and Christmas Day is spent at my mom’s! LOVE it!
Everyone puts something in each other’s stockings. We take turns sneaking in the middle of the night!
