Family traditions are one of my favorite things about the holidays. It’s so special to have meaningful things that we do as a family year after year. When our girls were younger, my mom would give them an ornament each year and we would put their name on it. They get so excited when we put the tree up, to dig thru our ornament box and reminisce about each one. When Heather moved to her own place, she took all of “her” ornaments with her, so it made her new tree feel a little like home.
When it is time to put the tree up, they each place their ornaments where they want on the tree………I may be known to go around and “fix them” a little later 😉
For some reason, we don’t have many “family” ornaments. We have the “Our First Christmas Ornament” that is 27 years old and still standing!!! I love the idea of having a special ornament to represent our whole family though. This year I’m starting a new tradition! I want FAMILY ornaments……..that way when our last one goes and we have an empty nest, we don’t have an empty tree!
So it’s no doubt that I fell in love with the new Family Christmas Tree Ornament from The Vintage Pearl. Isn’t she a beauty?! I can’t wait to hang it on our tree.
Erin at The Vintage Pearl was so kind to send my family a Personalized Christmas Family Tree ornament . The ornament arrived in a small tan box nestled in padding and wrapped in a pretty pale blue ribbon accented with a pearl. Perfect for gift giving, if you’d like to give one as a gift.
Speaking of gifts…….. The Vintage Pearl products are all handmade by Erin and her team in their Tulsa, OK studio. They use quality materials like silver, gold, swarovski crystals and freshwater pearls. They have a large assortment of Handstamped Jewelry. It is always fun to have something unique and personalized just for you or someone special.

We get a personalized ornament every year (most of the time with pictures of us) so that our tree reflects our growing family. We also find ways to give back throughout the holidays.
One of our Christmas traditions is making and giving away gingerbread houses.
I refuse to decorate for Christmas till the day after Thanksgiving and then we have to go drive around and look at lights and drink hot chocolate at least once before Christmas.
We put out reindeer food and we give our son a new set of pjs for Christmas morning.
We watch The Polar Express. Drink hot chocolate and have pancakes for dinner.
We have a family tradition of baking cookies and bread and delivering it to our neighbors and friends. We also have 3 small Christmas Trees–one for my daughter, one for my son and one for my husband and I. We decorate them with our own ornaments. We keep the large tree decked out in gold, red and green. And, when the kiddos grow up–they will have ornaments for their first tree!
Have a get together on Christmas Eve after the Candlelight Service, with tons of food.
We have 4 kids and are foster parents as well, so every year the weekend after Thanksgiving we load all kids bio and bonus into the van and go to the tree farm and pick out a Christmas tree, we walk around until we all agree on the perfect one and then daddy cuts it down! We all come home and start to decorate with all the handmade ornaments the kids have made through the years!
Oh my gosh – we have lots of holiday traditions! This is my husband’s favorite holiday and we all get so excited at our home. I make a batch of the traditional chex mix while we begin decorating for Christmas – which I always do the Friday after Thanksgiving. The outside lights are turned on Thanksgiving night. Our elf comes that weekend too! We make a homemade gift for all of our neighbors – one year the kids made ginderbread houses and that was a favorite so far! We have a new puppy this year so, that just adds to all of the excitement at my house!
We go see the lights at the KY Horse Park every year.
not christmas, until we make sugar cookies
We love going to see Christmas lights, decorate the tree while listening to Christmas music and we each make and decorate a gingerbread house and have our family members vote on which one they liked best.
LOVE THE ORNAMENT! As far as traditions, me and my two sisters and of course our kids have a “Sister’s Christmas” every year. As sisters, we all make lots of goodies to eat and i make chicken and dumplings and homemade caramels and bourbon balls and popcorn balls and much much more. My sister Hope always brings her cheese ball and my other sister Cindy always brings her sausage balls. We each spend $50 on each other for presents and we eat and eat and keep eating, LOL and then we open presents! Plus i have everybody sing Happy Birthday to Jesus. We also do not invite the husbands, LOL. This is a “Sister’s Day” and kids!
THANKS!
We have lots of fun traditions every year-my husbands mom & sister always come down from Seattle-one of the kids always reads The Night Before Christmas, breakfast casserole Christmas morning, my sister in law makes a fabulous Christmas dinner every year, games & great times hanging out together!
We have been doing the Elf on a Shelf for the past couple years and the kids have such a great time discovering what he’s been up to each morning! For the first time this year we are going to finally get a real christmas tree! I grew up with always having a real tree and look forward to starting this tradition with my family. We have a new house and can’t wait to decorate with lights as well as spending a weekend making all sorts of different cookies! Can’t wait! 🙂
We have my family and my husband’s family over on Christmas Day along with everyone’s extended families.
Every year we chopped our tree and decorate our home the weekend after Thanksgiving to enjoy quality family time together instead of hectic/stressed mall shopping. I also make my famous hot chocolate for everyone to enjoy while decorating the tree.
The the personalized family tree ornament!
We do an advent calendar that has activities to do together each day (instead of treats).
Every year my children get 3 new ornaments a year. My husband and I give them one, my mother gives them one and my sister gives them one. It is really neat to see how their interests have changed throughout the years. When our children grow up and leave our home they will have the beginnings for their own Chirstmas tree and a tradition to continue with their own families. We also have baking day where we do all our sweets for the holidays. We are in the kitchen bright and early until the late evening. We all wear Christmas aprons and we exchange Christmas cooking utensils. We play Christmas music very loud. It is a great time spending with family.
We have the whole family over for fun on Christmas Eve!
We decorate Christmas cookies, have lots of celebrations with family, and give gifts to children on the Giving Tree!
we have a tradition of picking out a new ornament every year to add to our tree, this giveaway would be perfect. We also open stockings each Christmas Eve after enjoying service and looking at Christmas Lights. I love traditions. No matter where the military has sent us we can continue to enjoy the things that make the holiday special
My favorite Holiday traditions have always been going to get a Christmas Tree! And then decorating it while enjoying some egg nog 🙂
Our family tradition is to get a new ornament every year. This would be wonderful cause we have a little one that will be celebrating their first Christmas!
Our tradition was passed down by my husbands family. We all sit around, adults and children. We start with the youngest and they open one present and then the next age and so on. It makes it nice to see what we all have and it makes Christmas last a little longer.
Steph
Growing up, my mom made the same 2 breakfast casseroles on Christmas morning. NOw that I have a family of my own ,I make the same 2 casseroles and we’ve added one of our own to make the tradition ours 🙂

I am somewhat recently married and have no children, so we don’t have very many traditions established yet, but we host a White Elephant Xmas party every year and do a gift exchange with family.
Ohhhh, love holiday traditions. My family favorite is to go get fresh tree and decorate the day after Thanksgiving. Your bellies are full and no one truly wants to do anything but all of us get together and go at it.
We fondue on Christmas Eve!
We go to the movies both thanksgiving day and Christmas Day and we always put our tree up the day after thanksgiving while family is all still around!
My family and I do a new family ornament each year and this would be perfect!!!!!
We all bring a ‘gag'(some are good gifts, some just gags) gift to our gathering. We lay them in the middle of the room. Each player writes down 10 numbers between 1-50. A ‘caller’ calls off the numbers. If you have that number, you go pick a gift until they are all gone, then you start taking gifts from each other until all the numbers have been called. Whatever gifts you end up with, you get to keep.
I love Christmas traditions! My favorite is picking our new ornaments each year with my kids. 😀
Hi there….my family’s Christmas tradition is to change into our pajamas after dinner, cuddle up with each other on the couch and watch ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ with all the lights turned off. Then we read Christmas stories to the boys before bedtime. Then ‘Santa’ scrambles to get everything under the tree before (trying) to get some sleep. 🙂
Every year my family goes and picks out our own individual ornament to decorate the tree, when our children are grown, they will have their own little collection to start with.
Driving through the local Christmas light displays
On Christmas morning we always read the Christmas story out of the Bible before we do anything else. We wanted to make sure I kids knew the true meaning of Christmas. Also, as my kids we growing up, we would make ornaments together each year. We have loads of handmade ornaments.
Octopus Stew on Christmas Eve. Best and most delicious tradition ever!
One of our Christmas traditions is setting up our tree on Thanksgiving night while watching a Christmas movie and drinking cocoa.
Christmas is a special time for our family, too. We’ve been doing the Elf on the Shelf for the last couple of years for our granddaughters, but we always do a special Christmas Eve present that we’ve been doing for 43 years now. Each Christmas Eve, everyone gets a gift of new pjs. I started this when my first child (a son) was born and we’ve continued it now to include our grandchildren. This year, we’ll be adding a favorite DVD and some popcorn mini-bags to spice it up a little. My husband and I have collected a Christmas ornament for every place we’ve ever gone together – Bermuda, Florida, Pigeon Forge, Chicago – the list goes on and on. We now have a tremendously full tree that we love to decorate quietly together remembering our special times.
My family has just expanded to include our first child, a beautiful daughter, and this year we plan to start family Christmas traditions, such as an advent calendar with a family activity for each day, opening one gift on Christmas Eve, picking out and cutting down a Christmas tree, and making an ornament chronicling the highlights of our baby girl’s year! So excited!!
My mom’s birthday is Christmas Eve so we always make that a special day for her and then get Christmas started off early with a family breakfast.
Love the ornaments and reading everyone’s ideas and traditions. Every year since each one of my girls were born … I spend months looking for the perfect ornament that fits their personality and one that they will treasure for years to come. We also give special handmade ornaments attached to the presents we give. This year I am going to give them their own special box to pack/keep them in. In this box I will keep the ones they make from school and etc.
We have Christmas Eve at my parents house. Christmas day is just our family. We spend Christmas with my SO’s family usually the Saturday after.
We go see Christmas lights one night and the only other thing that isn’t the ‘norm’ for everyone would be we give out an award that originated when my sister in law said something really ‘goofy’ right before thanksgiving one year having to do with a license plate that said ‘MCKE MOU’. She said what the heck is ‘macky moo’?? LOL so we give out the Macky Moo award to someone every Christmas to the person who did or said the goofiest thing during the year. We keep track of all the goofy things in a notebook that gets passed to the recipient every year along with a gigantic Mickey Mouse…I know…weird but my kids love it, its a highlight…..and has nothing to do with Christmas…LOL
I have bought things from the vintage pearl and they are beautiful and meaningful!
we always go out for a movie and chinese food on Christmas eve, some good stories have sure been made on this tradition!
Since my husband is a firefighter we will be spending our Thanksgiving and Christmas at the fire house with other firefighter families this year
We have many special traditions, but one we have carried from my childhood is… a special ornament each year. My mom always bought my sister and I a special ornament every year… mostly it would be something to reference a fun thing we did that year. When we each got married and moved from home she gave us our ornaments to take with us! I have started this tradition with my own children. And love it! I enjoy picking out a special ornament to remember something fun they did that year! Thanks for a chance to win this beautiful ornament! 🙂
My entire family goes to my Mamaw & Papaw’s house on Christmas Eve. This started with my dad and his siblings when they first began marrying and starting their own families. Now it includes children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their spouses/families. Its a lot of people to have at one time but I love it!
We have a family tradition of watching certain movies on Christmas day after opening presents and eating dinner.
