With the holidays in full swing, many of us are in the kitchen cooking and baking up a storm, have a to-do list a mile long, and add to that the stress of holiday gatherings and Christmas parties. Is it any wonder most of us feel stressed during the holidays?
I try to reduce some of my holiday stress by taking shortcuts when I can. I’m going to let my little secret out of the bag …….. I’m a big fan of the bagged cookie mixes, and I don’t hesitate to use them in some of my holiday baking!
What if I told you that you could make a cool chocolate mint cookie in no time with just a few simple ingredients?
Of course, you could make these using a basic sugar or butter cookie recipe from scratch, but if you’re pressed for time (and less mess) this is a great alternative! Leaving you with more time for shopping, wrapping or dancing to your favorite holiday tunes!

*NOTES:
The green food color is just to give the cookies a “mint” look, but you can certainly eliminate it if you wish.
I used CK leaf green gel food color and just a bit of Americolor bright white gel food color.
Doughmaker Aluminum cookie sheet is a great pan for cookie baking.
That’s my secret to stress free holiday baking!
These cookies would also be perfect for a St. Patrick’s Day treat!

Our simple holiday tradition is Sauerbraten on Christmas Eve and a new Christmas movie!
wbailey113 at hotmail dot com
One of our traditions is to make sticky buns (with Rhodes rolls) on Christmas Eve & they thaw & raise overnight & are ready to pop in the oven first thing Christmas morning! Such a yummy breakfast to look forward to after opening presents!
Oh my goodness… I’m in trouble!
These look incredible. I’ll take mine with milk…. after i workout
we are learning new every year. no matter what we take time to have a decent breakfast every year before opening gifts. if dad is home then we have eggs and the whole meal. if he is deployed i make cinnamon rolls and sausage. something easy. it gives us as time to enjoy the day together before the kids run off with toys.
Since I was little my large family, which keeps growing , has had a tradition of having a “Chinese auction” gift exchange on X-Mas eve. We have $10 price limit and the more bizarre the gift the better. Even the little kids participate and save their allowance for the exchange. It is so much fun.
We enjoy feeding the reindeers along side of the Santa cookies. I have 2 children, and my hisband has 3 (my 3 bonue children) so we have a FULL house. Some are believers and some aren’t. We let the littlest mini humans sprinkle the “food” with glitter…for the magically aspect 🙂
This will be my husband and I’s first Christmas as I married couple, but we lived together last Christmas. So last Christmas we put the tree and stockings up together as soon as we got home from eating Thanksgiving dinner and we did so this year too; so we decided that this will be a tradition that we will carry on every year. I also cook Christmas dinner for just the 2 of us the weekend before the holiday. Even though it’s just the 2 of us, I go all out with ham, maybe turkey with all the sides and some dessert too! It works out nicely because we have so many leftovers that I do not have to cook again until after Christmas 🙂
Every year at Christmas, my family and I go out to our downtown shops for their annual open house. All the stores stay open late, the mayor lights the town square Christmas tree, and everyone sings Christmas carols. As a family, we pick out one new Christmas tree ornaments that signifies something special that has happened during the year, it could be a blue ornament for a new baby, a angel for the passing of a loved one, or a cute kitty ornament for the new addition to the family. Whatever we pick, we do it as a family. That is what makes it so special each year as we unwrap the ornaments and discuss the story of the significance of each one as they are placed on the tree.
The perfect cookie for this time of year!
I have a family tradition that we have done because my husband’s family did it every year The 5 days before Christmas are days with items in each stocking. It is like a slow culmination of gifts. Normally the items in the stocking are under $5 but is the excitement of not knowing what would be in the stockings.
We all open one gift the night before Christmas. On Christmas morning, we exchange gifts, eat breakfast and then head out to spend the day with relatives. Not the same since the kids are grown and living in different states.
One of my favorite traditions is our advent calendar. My kids open a door each day and there is a paper with a special activity inside. They love it!
We always take the time to read a story every night!
We decorate gingerbread. We have done houses, people, and cookies. We have so much fun.
At the end of the holiday season I stock up on little decorated tins and containers that are clearanced out then every Christmas Eve morning my daughter and I make peppermint bark, bake cookies. We hand deliver them to our friends and neighbors for them to enjoy. Then when are are done delivering them we grab a pizza, light a fire and watch It’s A Wonderful Life together.

I too love to start with a cookie mix. It gives me so much more time and patience to enjoy the fun part of decorating with the kids 🙂 I will definitely try these this Christmas…. I also enjoy starting with the sugar cookie mix and adding coconut and condensed milk for a macaroon type cookie yum!
We have champagne and shrimp cocktail while decorating the Christmas tree every year
Making all the Christmas goodies! like Fudge Yummy
I used the refrigerated sugar cookie roll to make cookies every year. Cut the dough, roll into a ball, roll this in sesame seeds, make a small indent at the top of each ball (I use my pinky) then fill it with your favorite jam. Bake as directed. They look fancy but are a snap to make.
One of the easiest ways to make things special is to use your best – your best dishes, linens, ect. Pull out inherited quilts & teapots & use them to make celebrations memorable. Be sure to share stories about the items with your children so they’ll know your family history.
I hope I win your awesome prize!
We will bake every weekend during December and freeze them for Christmas
My family always loves to relax during the holidays by watching Christmas themed movies together. We make our favorite snacks and just chill out.
We watch Christmas movies that are on t.v.We also get some old ones from the library. We also do a ton of baking while listening to Christmas music. We also love to decorate the tree together.
We are very busy during the holiday season just like everyone else. Our church hosts an outdoor event for 9 nights in December called Back to Bethlehem, we have a full city with houses, a market, live animals, the navity and the death and resurection of Christ. It is absoulutely amazing and it is a Christmas Tradition in the community. It is time consuming but it doesn’t feel like Christmas until we have Back to Bethlehem. The nights after are spent at home enjoying each other watching Christmas movies.
We focus on activities we can all do together – picking out a tree, baking cookies, making wreaths, etc.
I just love the tradition of hanging out with the family at home on Christmas!
We started a new tradition last year. I have a pocket style advent calender and I fill it with treats and ideas of fun activities for us to do.
I spend the weekend before Christmas making all my cookie dough and refrigerate it on Saturday, then Sunday I spend the day baking them all. Only have to crank the oven up once and keep it going. I have them all organize to bake, lowest heat to highest heat. Kids help and we have such a grand time. Then I make fudge, truffles, barks, toffee etc during the week. Going to add these cookies into my to do list!
Lots of baking. Lots of special visits with friends. Lots happiness!!! = holiday special moments 🙂
i always make it a point to head back to my parents house where we make a big production out of putting up the decorations.
I love creating new christmas cookies each year!
Christmas morning before we could open presents, Grandma would make homemade buckwheat pancakes. She would have to start the batter days in advance.
I believe in sharing the holidays with people even if they are not related by blood. We cook together, bake together and share the spirit if the Christmas season!
We enjoy activities together rather than give stuff.
altho my children are young adults i still continue a tradition my mom started and i added a few myself.( my idea ) After decorating the tree together I set a odd shaped present under the tree 1 for each member of the family. ( Great decoration too )Each present is disguised and wrapped well enough for any squezzing, shaking or handeling that will accure. They are not marked with a tag so it is a free for all in guessing who’s present is who’s and whats in it. They are allowed to inspect the presents up until Christmas eve when they are then opened. My kids have never been able to wait until Christmas morning to open at least 1 present so this gives them a fun way to look forward to opening 1 on christmas eve. In 20 yrs they have never guessed right and still look forward to it every year.( My Idea ) Another tradition is santas always wraps his gifts in a solid color paper to set them apart from all other gifts, they are labeled Santa. The kids take turns each year choosing a color paper. ( My Moms Tradition I carry on .. Thanks Mom ) All Presents besides Santas or exchanges are labeled with a number. Mom ( Myself ) has a master list of the childrens names the number of the gift and what the gift is. The presents are mixed up while being put under the tree so on Christmas morning the kids take turns getting a present, calling out the number and i direct them to putting it in the appropriate childs pile. This works great for those Picture worthy moments you know their going to awe over because you can see from the list just what each child is opening. My kids love this and say they will carry on the tradition, I hope they will .. Not the simplist but well organized. Thanks for doing the giveaway.
oh my I LOVE these, mint yum, chocolate yum, cookies yum!!!
I have tried to start the tradition of making a birthday cake for Jesus a few years ago. But I haven’t done it since 2009. This year I must get around to making one for him! It is, afterall, his birthday 😉
Right now, our tradition is putting up the Christmas tree. My toddler bugged me for days to put up the tree already, so it was up even before Thanksgiving day. He enjoyed hanging the decorations.
I use leftover candy in special holiday treats!
My sister and I bake lots of cookies each year to give out to family. (So uh, thanks for the recipe!!)
I favorite idea is making gingerbread houses and keep a picture of each years project – fun to look.
My tip is to keep it simple. Sometimes the best traditions are made out of seemingly insignificant things.
My tip is to make an advent calender – you’re less likely to save your traditions and holiday fun til the last minute (or forget it altogether) if you have something to remind you.
Oooo…surfer boy is gonna love you forever! Chocolate and mint anything is his all time favorite. I may have to save these for when I need to bribe him ;D
my mom’s bday is Christmas Eve so we always try and make it extra special and get everyone together to let her know how special she is to all of us. this year is even more important as she was recently diagnosed with cancer. love my momma!
I amde these mint cookies last night, and they were a HUGE hit! The house smelled great and the cookie dough was yummY! LOL! My facebook friends have all asked for the receipe and I have sent them your way!
I go all out in the decor and stress myself out year after year, it’s a family tradition!
Keeping it simple means an easy dinner on christmas eve so I am not in the kitchen and I can enjoy santa coming to the house on the fire truck!
We love to get together and play games and tell stories of Christmases before. Toys break, money comes and goes…but, family is what is important.
