Welcome! I’m so excited about today. Do you love getting to peek into the homes of fabulous bloggers as much as I do? Today I’ll be sharing our 2014 Christmas Home with you as part of the Holiday Home Tours hosted by Chris from Just A Girl. There are 25 blogs participating, and I hope you’ll get a chance to hop around and see all the other beautifully decorated homes. If you are visiting from Hi Sugarplum welcome and come on in!!
After living in the same home for 16 years, we moved to our current home a year and a half ago. The family room was the first room we painted and decorated earlier this year, so it’s the first year I’ve gotten to decorate the new space and to celebrate we got a new Christmas tree! I’ve always loved the look of flocked trees, they’re just so beautiful, snowy and feel magical. This year the awesome people at Treetopia sent me a 7 foot Frosty Flocked pre-lit flocked tree along with a stand up straight tree storage bag — and the good news is, at the end of my tour here, one lucky TidyMom reader will get to win a tree of their choice from Treetopia!
This year I got the flu right before Thanksgiving, so Allison put the tree together and decorated it all by herself while I watched from my comfy chair, and Steve put up the outside lights. Setting up the tree was a little messy, since it’s flocked, but it was so easy to put together, Allison had it up in no time, and spent time fluffing each branch and hooking up the lights. This is our first time with a pre-lit tree and I have to say, it was SO much nicer than dealing with all those strands of lights, and bulbs that don’t work. My pre-strung tree came with a on/off foot pedal and extra bulbs and fuses. The wires for lights match the snowy green branches so well you don’t see the wires at all, just the radiant glow of the lights.
I added a few picks and a glittery garland to the tree that I found at a few of my favorite local shops. They really added sparkle and elegance to the tree along with our ornament collection we’ve been growing for years.
After Allison got the tree up and decorated, I spent the next few weeks putting up other decorations as I started to feel better.
Luckily I had picked up some new Christmas decor at Hobby Lobby and Target several weeks before, and I was anxious to get it all out. I did a few VERY simple Christmas crafts last year that I used again this year. If you read many blogs or get on Pinterest at all, it kind of blows my mind with how creative and crafty some people are with their Christmas decor. I’m always so stressed just getting thru December, I never have time for anything except for a few real simple ideas……I’ll be sharing in the next few days.
I found most of the the red and turquoise Christmas decor for one of my bookcases at Hobby Lobby.
Did you know H&M has a home line? That’s right, not only do they sell the latest fashion trends, but you can also pick up some great home interior fashion trends from H&M Home online. They have great prices too! I ordered holiday pillow covers (in the picture above) kitchen towels and a few other items including a red “Happy Holidays” tree mat that I bought to hang on the wall. It’s 39″ in diameter and was only $13!! the pillow covers were only $6 and $10. You can’t beat that!!
The fur pillow I borrowed from our guest room that recently had a makeover (will share in a few weeks) came from Wayfair.
I made the waterless snow globes a few years ago. They are super easy to make, you can find the tutorial to make your own snow globes here.
The gold and silver jars on the mantle are from Target. I picked up the felt pre-lit wreath at IKEA earlier this year when I visited Kristen in Kansas City.
I’ve been having a lot of fun with the big chalkboard I made over the summer. It’s hung over an antique jelly cabinet that I use as a tall buffet. I’ve been debating about painting it, but after seeing it with my new holiday dishes (Target) and the fresh pine garland, I’m kind of liking the stain color again…..for now, anyway 😉
The kitchen just has pops of red here and there. I love filling jars with Christmas candy for a simple festive look.
The Santa paper plates and napkins, JOY marquee sign and paper stars are from Target.
So there you have it, our 2014 Christmas tour! I have a few more pictures and ideas to share with you later this week and next…….I spent 3-4 hours home alone taking pictures of the house on Sunday! lol When the house is clean and decorated for the holiday…….and no one is home to mess it up, it’s easy to get a little carried away with the camera. I hope you’ll find time to pop back soon. Thanks so much for coming over! (don’t miss the Treetopia giveaway at the end of the post!)
Now is the time to head over and visit the other houses on the tour! The tours will be going on all week Monday through Friday. I’m completely honored to be a part of the tour with these amazingly talented women. Let me tell you, this is my first year participating in a holiday home tour and as fun, as it is, it’s a LOT of work, much like having a real party. There’s the decorating and cleaning, but also all the photo taking and post writing! It’s currently 2 am, just 4 hours before my post goes live……and if you know me, I’m not a night time person, but between being sick which delayed my decorating a bit, then we lost all our sunshine. It’s hard to take pictures of your home when it’s dark and cloudy out every single day for a week. I know many of us had similar issues with illness and light…… but we’ve all managed to pull it off and I’m so grateful to be a part of this group tour that makes this time of year so fun for all of us! When you’re visiting all the others, be sure to leave a comment and let them know how much you enjoyed all their hard work 😉

everything looks so beautiful & cozy!!! I LOVE your tree and your entire family room. So festive!
xoxo
My favorite kind of tree is – – – FAKE! 🙂 I love the ease and practicality of it. For us, it’s also a medical and safety factor!
Frazier Firs
My favorite kind of tree is a real-looking artificial tree! (Allergies – ugh!)
Your home is so beautiful! I love the tray of cookies on the counter set out like we are really there visiting… Merry Christmas!
The Whisper White Cashmere tree is a dream boat!!
I love the scent of a real tree but unfortunately my allergies do not so it is artificial for us.
Beautiful decor!! I love all trees, though prefer something simple to put up.
A tree that wouldn’t be too big to fit into my small space. 🙂
Noble Fir was always special growing up
My favorite kind of Christmas tree is the one in our home decorated with beautiful, simple, homemade and store bought ornaments that bring back many happy memories of my children and the many Christmases past.
I’ve always wanted a real tree, but three kids with asthma and allergies means we have a prelit artificial one; one that currently has a strand of lights out (why is it always the middle of the tree that goes out?!) that we cannot seem to fix lol. I’d love to have one that looks real…maybe a cashmere tipped one or one that is flocked. I love this home tour! So festive!!
Everything looks great and I knew I should have grabbed those H& M tree mats when I first saw them (sadly , it looks like they sold out of them). Curious where your tufted dining chairs are from?
I looooooooove a flocked tree. So much so, that I’ve put tons and tons of flocked greenery in my tree to help give it that look!
love love love a tall thin tree with pine ones and prelit!
Flocked trees filled with glass and family keepsake ornaments are my fave! I love real, but allergies force me to do faux.
My favorite Christmas tree in my home is decorated with nothing but handmade childhood thing’s, it is my sentimental tree filled with memories and character from year’s passed!
a pre-lit one!
My favorite tree is a flocked slim tree, as the rooms in my house are small. It would be decorated in a rustic-glam style……lots of burlap & shiny gold.
Since we married, 45 years ago, we’ve always had a Douglas fir tree. As the years go by and we get older I keep thinking an artificial tree would be so much easier. I look at them in the stores and some are beautiful, but can get quite expensive. Maybe one day we’ll be able to make the switch.
I am so loving all of the flocked Christmas trees I am seeing this year!!
Pine!
I’d love a flocked tree! Yours is gorgeous!
I love the flocked trees as well. Yours is beautiful and I love filling it with ornaments we have collected over the years.
I love a very eclectic tree. I like all different kinds of decorations that I have collected or been given over the years that mean a lot to me and my family placed on a tall realistic looking tree.
A pre lit tree is the best. So tired of untangling lights every year.
I haven’t had a tree since my house burnt in 2008, just hasn’t been in the budget Given the choice, I might just go with Treetopia’s CATALINA BREEZE PALM TREEs….since I love the idea of a tropical Xmas and I am in Florida.
We have a flocked tree at work, and I just love the one on here! So traditional!
I love the Frosty Flocked tree and would love one that is pre-lit…… Also love your Christmas decorations! My favorites are the pillows and throws you used to decorate your family room – love the pops of red! Thanks for the inspiration!
Blessings,
Lanita
Having never had a flocked tree, I’m not sure. Although yours is stunning!. We always get a fresh, real tree. Each year i tell myself this will be the year to obtain an artificial tree and then….. I don’t. lol. So, there you have it.
Amy Schleider
In all honesty, I prefer a real tree but with my children grown and gone and since I live in an old home with 12 foot ceilings, I have come to realize that an artificial tree is the way for me to go. I love the ones that look as real as possible since I can change the look with the decor I choose for that year.
I love a flocked tree….I keep watching for one to go on sale, but have not had any luck yet!
I love a flocked tree!!!!
One that is loaded with decorations and repels cats. Lofty goal, I know.
I love ther realistic trees the best. I can’t have a cut tree as much I love them so I want it to look real.
I love a white tree with lots of bright shiny ornaments!
I love flocked trees also….I grew up in MN and spent 3 years in Alaska (husband was in the military) now we live in the South, so I’m really missing a “White Christmas”! (Also my favorite holiday movie) I have a tall ceiling in the foyer so A tall tree there would be so wonderful. Thanks for sharing your beautiful decor with us!
Happy Holidays one and all, Toodles, Barbi
one that looks real!
I love prelit trees with red bows
One decorated with lots of memories
My favorite Christmas tree is a white flocked tree, which I would decorate with Santa Claus ornaments.
I love the flocked tree and would love to own one of these some day too!
The flocked trees are really growing on me, although I shouldn’t be surprised as I love the look of the trees outside covered with fresh fallen snow. Your house looks great. Merry Christmas and a peaceful, joyful and healthy New Year.
i love flocked trees but they are too messy and tempting for my kids! Someday when they are older!!,
I’ve never had a flocked tree and would love to have one.
My sentimental fave is the one we chop down every year in Rocky Mountain national forest but my design fave is exactly what you have in the first photo of this post! I want a flocked tree with all white lights of all different sizes….dreamy!
I always had live trees growing up but I am allergic to trees so finally bought a fake tree. And it’s starting to look like the saddest tree ever as it’s aging.
I love all trees, I have seven decorated trees in my house and I love every single one!
I too love a flocked tree, and yours looks gorgeous, Cheryl. I didn’t even know you have moved to a new home. Congrats! It looks like it’s bigger than your other place and very, very nice.
I love this giveaway. It’s awesome.
I love this giveaway. It’s awesome. I want a 6 ft artificial prelit full tree.
