Welcome! I’m so excited about today. Do you love getting to peek into the homes of fabulous bloggers as much as I do? Today I’ll be sharing our 2014 Christmas Home with you as part of the Holiday Home Tours hosted by Chris from Just A Girl. There are 25 blogs participating, and I hope you’ll get a chance to hop around and see all the other beautifully decorated homes. If you are visiting from Hi Sugarplum welcome and come on in!!
After living in the same home for 16 years, we moved to our current home a year and a half ago. The family room was the first room we painted and decorated earlier this year, so it’s the first year I’ve gotten to decorate the new space and to celebrate we got a new Christmas tree! I’ve always loved the look of flocked trees, they’re just so beautiful, snowy and feel magical. This year the awesome people at Treetopia sent me a 7 foot Frosty Flocked pre-lit flocked tree along with a stand up straight tree storage bag — and the good news is, at the end of my tour here, one lucky TidyMom reader will get to win a tree of their choice from Treetopia!
This year I got the flu right before Thanksgiving, so Allison put the tree together and decorated it all by herself while I watched from my comfy chair, and Steve put up the outside lights. Setting up the tree was a little messy, since it’s flocked, but it was so easy to put together, Allison had it up in no time, and spent time fluffing each branch and hooking up the lights. This is our first time with a pre-lit tree and I have to say, it was SO much nicer than dealing with all those strands of lights, and bulbs that don’t work. My pre-strung tree came with a on/off foot pedal and extra bulbs and fuses. The wires for lights match the snowy green branches so well you don’t see the wires at all, just the radiant glow of the lights.
I added a few picks and a glittery garland to the tree that I found at a few of my favorite local shops. They really added sparkle and elegance to the tree along with our ornament collection we’ve been growing for years.
After Allison got the tree up and decorated, I spent the next few weeks putting up other decorations as I started to feel better.
Luckily I had picked up some new Christmas decor at Hobby Lobby and Target several weeks before, and I was anxious to get it all out. I did a few VERY simple Christmas crafts last year that I used again this year. If you read many blogs or get on Pinterest at all, it kind of blows my mind with how creative and crafty some people are with their Christmas decor. I’m always so stressed just getting thru December, I never have time for anything except for a few real simple ideas……I’ll be sharing in the next few days.
I found most of the the red and turquoise Christmas decor for one of my bookcases at Hobby Lobby.
Did you know H&M has a home line? That’s right, not only do they sell the latest fashion trends, but you can also pick up some great home interior fashion trends from H&M Home online. They have great prices too! I ordered holiday pillow covers (in the picture above) kitchen towels and a few other items including a red “Happy Holidays” tree mat that I bought to hang on the wall. It’s 39″ in diameter and was only $13!! the pillow covers were only $6 and $10. You can’t beat that!!
The fur pillow I borrowed from our guest room that recently had a makeover (will share in a few weeks) came from Wayfair.
I made the waterless snow globes a few years ago. They are super easy to make, you can find the tutorial to make your own snow globes here.
The gold and silver jars on the mantle are from Target. I picked up the felt pre-lit wreath at IKEA earlier this year when I visited Kristen in Kansas City.
I’ve been having a lot of fun with the big chalkboard I made over the summer. It’s hung over an antique jelly cabinet that I use as a tall buffet. I’ve been debating about painting it, but after seeing it with my new holiday dishes (Target) and the fresh pine garland, I’m kind of liking the stain color again…..for now, anyway 😉
The kitchen just has pops of red here and there. I love filling jars with Christmas candy for a simple festive look.
The Santa paper plates and napkins, JOY marquee sign and paper stars are from Target.
So there you have it, our 2014 Christmas tour! I have a few more pictures and ideas to share with you later this week and next…….I spent 3-4 hours home alone taking pictures of the house on Sunday! lol When the house is clean and decorated for the holiday…….and no one is home to mess it up, it’s easy to get a little carried away with the camera. I hope you’ll find time to pop back soon. Thanks so much for coming over! (don’t miss the Treetopia giveaway at the end of the post!)
Now is the time to head over and visit the other houses on the tour! The tours will be going on all week Monday through Friday. I’m completely honored to be a part of the tour with these amazingly talented women. Let me tell you, this is my first year participating in a holiday home tour and as fun, as it is, it’s a LOT of work, much like having a real party. There’s the decorating and cleaning, but also all the photo taking and post writing! It’s currently 2 am, just 4 hours before my post goes live……and if you know me, I’m not a night time person, but between being sick which delayed my decorating a bit, then we lost all our sunshine. It’s hard to take pictures of your home when it’s dark and cloudy out every single day for a week. I know many of us had similar issues with illness and light…… but we’ve all managed to pull it off and I’m so grateful to be a part of this group tour that makes this time of year so fun for all of us! When you’re visiting all the others, be sure to leave a comment and let them know how much you enjoyed all their hard work 😉

I grew up with Douglas Firs and so traditional green will always have a place in my heart but I would truly love a white tree.
Real Fraser Fir!
My favorite kind of Christmas tree is one filled with decorations! We don’t have the means for a tree this year, but my sweet 3 year old suggested making one and it just might be my new favorite 🙂
A Douglas Fir makes a beautiful Christmas tree.
My favourite type of tree is a made to look as real as possible fake tree, that is prelit! Im quite certain I could not keep a real tree alive through December, though I do slightly envy the family bonding time that comes from the Christmas tree hunt.
I love the tree that you have in your home! 🙂
What a beautiful and happy tour! I love your flocked tree and all of your pops of red!! xox, Emily
love this frosty flocked tree! Merry Christmas!
I really enjoy a full seven foot Frasier fir, with multi colored lights and lots of family pictures and ornaments.
Balsam Pine. Beautiful post!
I love a real tree but not always crazy about the messy cleanup. This Frosty Flocked prelit that you have is pretty awesome!
It’s a toss up but in the end I love the California 8′ Douglas Fir… It’s a classic
I love any kind of tree! But am really eyeing a flocked one this year!!!!
I love Noble Firs and missed them while I lived on the East Coast
I love evergreen trees that look as beautiful as the outside ones do. Thanks for the chance to enter.
I’m a Noble girl. What can I say.
I love a real christmas tree, they smell so good!
My favourite tree is a real one because it makes the house smell so nice! Unfortunately, it can also make the house a mess of loose needles. I don’t have money for any kind of tree this year, but I normally love to decorate with a combination of coordinating colours of lights and balls and meaningful ornaments.
I don’t have a favorite type of tree, but I do love my tiny 6′ tree that has sparse branches and is about to tip over from too many ornaments!! My mother gave it to me for the first christmas my hubby and I spent in our new apartment. I would love a new one so that I can put a bigger pre-lit in my living room and have the smaller one in my formal dining room!
I love this frosty flocked tree!
I like whatever kind of tree smells the best!!
Your house is so cute! I love the decorations! We’ve got a real tree, I love the smell. I’ve put more effort outside this year in wreaths, garland and lights on the house. You’re making me want to decorate inside more! It’s so much fun!
I absolutely love a flocked tree! A fir would be a bonus!
Douglas fir! Beautiful home!!!!
Your house is beautiful! I love everything about your living room decorations. 🙂
My favorite type of tree are the Noble Firs, we have a 10′ live one this year.
Anna
Love a real tree, Douglas or Noble Firs.
My most favorite Christmas tree is a fresh white pine. They’re hard to find where we live now, but when I can get one I always choose it first!
My favorite Christmas tree is a Balsam. The tree is beautiful.
My favorite tree is a white flocked tree with ornaments my kids have made
Real but I have artificial too!
My favorite is blue spruce with clear lights and all decorations the same color, blue.
So much festivity! You did a great job and I’m thoroughly impressed!
Oh… and I’m in love with cedar Christmas trees 🙂
I love green bushy Christmas trees filled with ornaments. My husband and I have an ornament for every year that we’ve been married (it has the year on it) and we always try to buy an ornament from our travels. It’s like going down memory lane when we decorate our tree. We love it.
I love the balsam spruce. What a fantastic giveaway!
I grew up with an artificial tree, so I love a live tree. But that doesn’t happen every year. I have been looking at new artificial ones. I love your flocked one! Much needed in SC where it can be 70 on Christmas Day! At least it will seem like winter with a flocked tree. Thanks.
My favorite kind of tree is a pretty one! It just depends how it is decorated! I’ve always wanted a flocked tree, just like the one you have. It’s gorgeous!
Your home is beautiful! I love all of the decorations!
Douglas Fir is my favorite kind of Christmas Tree.
I have to have a big tree as I have ornaments I’ve collected over 50 years, takes me ALL day to put on…love them all!
I love a good fir tree – thanks for a great giveaway! It’s time to upgrade 😉
I have been wanting to et my hands on a flocked tree for years!!!
I love a simple tree with all the memory ornaments, with white snowflakes tied with red ribbon.
Around 30 years ago now, here in California we would have a sparse tree that we dubbed a Charlie Brown tree. It was cheap, and was never a perfect tree, but they were wonderful. They finally got rid of them as I think stores were just not making money off of them as they usually sold at Target for $5 -10. I do like Noble firs, but the ones we had when I was a kid were much more tiered than what they are now. What we get is just a big bush that has now strength to the branches.
My favorite is the Noble fir.
My favorite kind of Christmas tree is the one that I can easily assemble and easy storage. I love it the most when my kids hang their handmade ornaments on it. 🙂 Make the house warm and festive.

I love a Douglas fir tree, but my husband is allergic. I would love a realistic looking tree even though it doesn’t smell quite as good. Wax melts would make up for that, if my husband weren’t allergic to those too!
I love our families tree, it’s nearly 20 years old, but I’m noticing it’s fading! I’m in love with the flocked trees!
I like both real and artificial, although the artificial ones are definitely easier and less mess. I have always wanted to get real ones in pots that can be planted outside later.
My favorite kind of Christmas tree is Treetopia’s “O Christmas tree”. I looked at their site and that tree is the most realistic to me of what a real christmas tree is like!
Visited and I like the TUXEDO BLACK CHRISTMAS TREE
I LOVE Ponderosa Pine
