Welcome! I’m so excited about today. Do you love getting to peek into the homes of fabulous bloggers as much as I do? Today I’ll be sharing our 2014 Christmas Home with you as part of the Holiday Home Tours hosted by Chris from Just A Girl. There are 25 blogs participating, and I hope you’ll get a chance to hop around and see all the other beautifully decorated homes. If you are visiting from Hi Sugarplum welcome and come on in!!
After living in the same home for 16 years, we moved to our current home a year and a half ago. The family room was the first room we painted and decorated earlier this year, so it’s the first year I’ve gotten to decorate the new space and to celebrate we got a new Christmas tree! I’ve always loved the look of flocked trees, they’re just so beautiful, snowy and feel magical. This year the awesome people at Treetopia sent me a 7 foot Frosty Flocked pre-lit flocked tree along with a stand up straight tree storage bag — and the good news is, at the end of my tour here, one lucky TidyMom reader will get to win a tree of their choice from Treetopia!
This year I got the flu right before Thanksgiving, so Allison put the tree together and decorated it all by herself while I watched from my comfy chair, and Steve put up the outside lights. Setting up the tree was a little messy, since it’s flocked, but it was so easy to put together, Allison had it up in no time, and spent time fluffing each branch and hooking up the lights. This is our first time with a pre-lit tree and I have to say, it was SO much nicer than dealing with all those strands of lights, and bulbs that don’t work. My pre-strung tree came with a on/off foot pedal and extra bulbs and fuses. The wires for lights match the snowy green branches so well you don’t see the wires at all, just the radiant glow of the lights.
I added a few picks and a glittery garland to the tree that I found at a few of my favorite local shops. They really added sparkle and elegance to the tree along with our ornament collection we’ve been growing for years.
After Allison got the tree up and decorated, I spent the next few weeks putting up other decorations as I started to feel better.
Luckily I had picked up some new Christmas decor at Hobby Lobby and Target several weeks before, and I was anxious to get it all out. I did a few VERY simple Christmas crafts last year that I used again this year. If you read many blogs or get on Pinterest at all, it kind of blows my mind with how creative and crafty some people are with their Christmas decor. I’m always so stressed just getting thru December, I never have time for anything except for a few real simple ideas……I’ll be sharing in the next few days.
I found most of the the red and turquoise Christmas decor for one of my bookcases at Hobby Lobby.
Did you know H&M has a home line? That’s right, not only do they sell the latest fashion trends, but you can also pick up some great home interior fashion trends from H&M Home online. They have great prices too! I ordered holiday pillow covers (in the picture above) kitchen towels and a few other items including a red “Happy Holidays” tree mat that I bought to hang on the wall. It’s 39″ in diameter and was only $13!! the pillow covers were only $6 and $10. You can’t beat that!!
The fur pillow I borrowed from our guest room that recently had a makeover (will share in a few weeks) came from Wayfair.
I made the waterless snow globes a few years ago. They are super easy to make, you can find the tutorial to make your own snow globes here.
The gold and silver jars on the mantle are from Target. I picked up the felt pre-lit wreath at IKEA earlier this year when I visited Kristen in Kansas City.
I’ve been having a lot of fun with the big chalkboard I made over the summer. It’s hung over an antique jelly cabinet that I use as a tall buffet. I’ve been debating about painting it, but after seeing it with my new holiday dishes (Target) and the fresh pine garland, I’m kind of liking the stain color again…..for now, anyway 😉
The kitchen just has pops of red here and there. I love filling jars with Christmas candy for a simple festive look.
The Santa paper plates and napkins, JOY marquee sign and paper stars are from Target.
So there you have it, our 2014 Christmas tour! I have a few more pictures and ideas to share with you later this week and next…….I spent 3-4 hours home alone taking pictures of the house on Sunday! lol When the house is clean and decorated for the holiday…….and no one is home to mess it up, it’s easy to get a little carried away with the camera. I hope you’ll find time to pop back soon. Thanks so much for coming over! (don’t miss the Treetopia giveaway at the end of the post!)
Now is the time to head over and visit the other houses on the tour! The tours will be going on all week Monday through Friday. I’m completely honored to be a part of the tour with these amazingly talented women. Let me tell you, this is my first year participating in a holiday home tour and as fun, as it is, it’s a LOT of work, much like having a real party. There’s the decorating and cleaning, but also all the photo taking and post writing! It’s currently 2 am, just 4 hours before my post goes live……and if you know me, I’m not a night time person, but between being sick which delayed my decorating a bit, then we lost all our sunshine. It’s hard to take pictures of your home when it’s dark and cloudy out every single day for a week. I know many of us had similar issues with illness and light…… but we’ve all managed to pull it off and I’m so grateful to be a part of this group tour that makes this time of year so fun for all of us! When you’re visiting all the others, be sure to leave a comment and let them know how much you enjoyed all their hard work 😉

Fraser Fir is my favorite.
I love the Douglas Fit. It is usually a full tree and lasts for a couple of weeks, sometimes for a month.
I love a Fraser Fir.
I’m not picky about what kind of tree as long as it is big and full. Short needled. Love the one you have pictured.
I love flocked trees! I love snow, and the look of a flocked tree is so lovely <3
My favorite tree is a “Real” tree but my cats started eating the tree so I had to go with a fake tree. Last year my tree broke. This year I could use a new tree to make Christmas brighter for my handicapped brother.
Blessings!
Wow, your house is gorgeous! It makes me want to move!! I have never thought about having a tree with snow on it before, but yours looks really gorgeous. I think I’m drawn to the 8′ Balsam Spruce Christmas Tree. The Potted Pine would be nice to have as an accent around the home though!
my husband grew up with real trees and my family grew up with fake trees so we are pretty torn over this issue!
Tall, pre-lit, easy to put up trees are my favorite. I think flocked trees are beautiful!
I’ve always loved the frazier fir.
I must have a flocked tree! Your house looks amazing! !!!
I haven’t had a tree in over 10 years, so i couldn’t say what my favorite is.
I think the “OH CHRISTMAS TREE” is gorgeous! What pretty trees!
I love any Christmas tree, but I’ve had a white one for many years and would love to have one that looks more natural. Your flocked tree is beautiful, and I love all your holiday decor!
I Love Love Love this tour! My favorite type of tree is pre-lit artificial spruce like!
A Douglas Fir
I really like the fuller fake and pre-lit trees. But am really contemplating a slim or corner/half tree due to space constraints.
Douglas Fir
I love, love, LOVE a flocked tree!
Flocked tree with white lights and turquoise & red accents!
A blue spruce. We cut a fresh tree every year, and walking through the woods hunting down the perfect tree is a family tradition.
I love any, large diameter tree!! The fuller the better!! Your home is beautiful!!!
Looking at all these beautiful pictures takes me away to fun and happy place! All I need is a cup of tea and Christmas music:)
I love a Douglas Fir! We always had one when I grew up but as an adult I have not had a real tree for awhile.
Douglas Fir
I love a big full tree. Can’t pick a favorite 🙂
In the past, I have wanted live Christmas trees because my mother always used a very dented Christmas tree that she pulled out of the basement every year. This year, our funds were low and the Christmas tree farm that someone graciously let us cut down trees for free at didn’t have much of a selection. So this year we have a Charlie Brown Christmas tree. But I’m learning to love it anyway! I realize that I love ANY kind of tree if I have Christmas spirit:)
i love pre lit Frazier Firs with lots of lights
Your home is magical and mine has only one small tree
With my angel collection. I had a knee replacement I MAY and worse
Now than before due to massive scar tissue. Anyway,
To win s new tree would certainly be great .
Stunning and you are a rockstar with the home tour thing 😉 hehe
Douglas Fir
When I was young on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, we would always go into the woods and cut a Cedar tree for the holidays. While the cedar scent brings back wonderful memories, I really prefer a spruce tree. It’s easier to hang ornaments!
Your home us magical ! Mine is so plain !
Love to win a Frazier Fir with lots of lights !
Flocked with individual tinsel strands!
I love a Blue Fir tree with ALL hand made ornaments!
It’s always a toss up between a Frasier and a Douglas Fir, when selecting I chose the the widest one that can fit all our handmade decorations from my Grandmother. She made a Christmas ornament for everyone every year until right before she passed. I continued this tradition with my daughters until my “Differently-abled” hands couldn’t. I bought each a special ornament since for the tree, so we have quite a specially loved traditional tree.
What a wonderful way to update our tree with a pre-lit flocked beautiful tree to enhance our ornaments.
Thank you for this generous opportunity!
Douglas Fir with tons of twinkly lights…
I love a slim tree! Not as crazy about a pencil tree as the main tree, but a slim tree has always been my favorite.
Flocked and snow “kissed”, prelit
My favorite kind of Christmas tree is a Charlie Brown Christmas tree.
Cheryl – everything looks positively lovely!!!!
Your home is so festive and beautiful! Your Christmas tree is gorgeous. I love all Christmas trees. I really do. Especially if they are carefully placed and decorated with love and Christmas spirit.
Oh my Cheryl – it’s so pretty!!!!!!!!!!! Great giveaway too! My favorite tree is a tall thin aspen fir. We have a very small room where we set up our decorations (mainly because we can close the doors & keep the cats from the wires) so the space dictates a narrow tree.
I love the trees that look blue- not sure what they’re called ?? I’ve always had real trees but now that we’re buying a house we can get a “faux” tree since we can store it!
So beautiful!
I love having a real tree. It always smells so good, it’s worth the mess!
We’ve had a Douglas fir and a Fraser fir and those are both beautiful.
Your house is so lovely and the decorations are so cheerful!
i always have loved Fraser Firs…
Fraser Fir is my favorite!
I don’t have a favorite kind of Christmas tree – just as long as it’s big and full I’m happy!
Gosh any BIG full tree would be awesome. I LOVE the one you were sent….haven’t seen the flocked ones, very nice!! You did a beautiful job of decorating it too 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
