I got some really great gifts for Christmas this year and I can’t wait to share some of them with you over the next few weeks.
Back in October I went to Dallas for the I Heart Faces Conference and my good friend Amy picked me up from the airport. After a quick hug, the first thing I noticed was the stylish and inspiring wrap bracelet she was wearing.
As soon as I got home, I had to look it up and was even MORE impressed by the company that makes the bracelet, Good Work(s) Make a Difference ®.
Created by momprenuer Helena Cho, each colorful bracelet is embossed with a number of uplifting and motivating phases such as “forgive,” “strength,” be aware,” “faith,” “freedom,” “accept diversity.”
But, here’s the best part…… Good Work(s) is a brand with a purpose ..…not only do these bracelets make you look and feel good, but, by purchasing one you are helping to do good! 25% of the net profits go to good causes. By helping those in need, Good Work(s) is able to send girls to the prom who couldn’t afford their dresses and help children through college when their mom has passed away from breast cancer. In 2012 Good Work(s) had a goal is to move 120 homeless families off the streets and into furnished homes in their “Home Sweeter Home for the Homeless” campaign. As soon as I laid my eyes on my Amy’s bracelet, I knew I had to have one but after reading about this celebrity loved fashion, I wanted one even more. So, I sent the link to the Silver Come Together Metallic Bracelet to my daughter with the subject line “Santa gift”;)

I cooked several meals for a family that would other wise have nothing to eat durring our “blizzard” and took them some groceries as well
I help my sister out and watch the baby when she has to work
Love those bracelets. I don´t like saying what you do for others, since the purpose of helping is not bragging about it. I try to do small things throughout the days and help my girls do the same. We share what we have with others, we take our old toys and give them to less fortunate children, I gave my last girls crib to the receptionist at my office. We invite our friends children over, so that they can do a afternoon off or night off, I try to be available for my friends when they need to have a heart to heart, I guess the small things add up.
I babysit my 6 month old nephew once a week for my sister so she can catch up on cleaning and other chores.
This year I am trying to do some act of kindness every day…its a lot harder in some ways, and easier in some ways then you think. Today, I am bringing a surprise of a favorite chai latte to a friend whose husband just deployed for a year. She has been cuddling in with the kids adjusting, and I know she doesn’t want to go out quite yet…but its her favorite treat. Thinking of throwing in a batch of cookies to go with it!
An elderly gentleman was having trouble getting to the handrail from his seat in a dark movie theater. People just watched- not knowing what to do. I offered him a hand and will never forget the look of sincere gratitude in his eyes.
I am a preschool director/teacher. I will come in early or stay late to help accommodate work schedules, doctor appointments, or just a coffee break …free of charge, of course.
It was not much but I arranged to have the snow shoveled from my neighbors drive & sidewalk. He recently had knee surgery & I did not want to risk him falling or trying to shovel himself.
Picked up the lunch tab for the nurse who was before me in line at the hospital. I love doing nice unexpected things for random people, helps to perk up their day. 🙂
Even though I have been unemployed for over 2 years, I helped my sister from another mister provide Christmas for her and her 3 kids. I am blessed by THE BEST!!!
I helped my love to get out of depression

I usually put a donation in the Salvation Army bucket. I always see the bell-ringer standing there in the frigid cold for hours on end and I say “I’ll get you on the way out”. I did, but I also bought a $5 gift card in the store and handed it to him for his good work. Merry Christmas!
aww, that was so nice
Helped out some friends in need. Bought supplies they needed to help them out:) love the bracelets!!!
My husband and I took in my sister and her daughter who were being evicted from their apartment last year with a dog and a cat! It has been a long year but I think she’s on her way to being able to be on her own soon.
I took care of my neighbor’s children for three days while she was recuperating from major dental surgery. Since it was during the holiday time, I thought it was a win for me as her children are 5, 7 and 9 and we got to bake cookies, make a gingerbread house, make popcorn balls and watch fun Christmas movies. They slept over and we had a blast! I know she appreciated it.
A friend from high school lost her infant daughter after a long illness and several hospitalizations. Between falling on hard times and mounting medical bills, a funeral was beyond her budget. I phoned the funeral home and helped cover some of the expenses (anonymously) so she would not feel embarrassed or ashamed. No one should lose a child, especially an infant.
I love making meals for families when they need it most. I have two families I’ll be preparing meals for in the next week. In one family, the father is going through chemotherapy and is almost finished with his treatments!
Our church hosts a program of getting community members who want to give their child(ren) gifts for Christmas but can’t afford it right now. My family and I hosted two kiddos. I had SO much fun shopping for the teenage girl, makes me excited to take my girl shopping!
I love to bake for others. At Christmas time I make candy and cookies and make sure at least 15 friends and families have enough goodies to last several weeks. I enjoy baking cookies, cupcakes and bread throughout the year just to share or cheer a friend up who might be having a hard time. I try to do this at least twice a month. Some times I have no sad friends so I share cupcakes just to share that mont’s holiday. Baking is best when shared is my thinking!
Bought a twin bed for a college student who was sleeping on the floor in her apt. What a delight to see the surprise on her face when my hubs, kids, & I gave it to her:)
Something good I did to help others: My whole family came to visit for Christmas and they shipped all their gifts in advance so they wouldn’t have to check them in their luggage. I wrapped all the presents for them ahead of time so they wouldn’t have to spend time doing that when they arrive but could relax and enjoy family and Christmas instead.
I am caring for my very sick husband.
I chose a little needy girl in my church and bought Christmas gifts for her.
In the past we have taken care of foster children. I had to stop due to having to have 2 back and 2 neck surgeries. I would still be doing it if I could! I love children I was blessed with one but I would have had a houseful if it was in the cards. I still see some of the children that we kept over the years and they talk about what a difference we made in their lives;
I love cooking for new moms. Instead of fresh meals, I made my next door neighbor (new mom of 3) frozen meals, so that they could take them out of the freezer and use them whenever they needed. That way they didn’t have leftover food, or food that had to be thrown away.
I like to help working parents by having their children over, mostly during summer and holiday breaks from school. It gives their children a break from the day care situation (esp. as the kids are older, that gets old fast), as well as helps the parents’ pocketbook.
I made a cake for my bestie! She was having a super bad week!
I work with some “challenged” teenaged students. Many of them do not come from good homes, or have little in material possessions. They often feel self-conscious about their looks and clothing. I try to make positive comments each day about how nice they look, or about their good bahavior or personality. I know it is small, but when I see their faces light up I know it makes them feel better about themselves.
My friend had posted that she was sick at home and was feeling really bad. It was a cold winter day and I was home for the day so I decided to fix a big kettle of vegetable soup and some zuchinni muffins and take her some. It was kinda late in the evening when I arrived at her door unexpected. Her grandson opened the door and I asked for her. I told hiim if she was too sick to come to the door that was ok. She managed to make it to the door and her eyes lit up when I handed her a bag with my ‘treats’ in it. I just told her I was thinking about her and I hoped she felt better. I sure would have loved to have had this camera and gotten a picture of her face when she opened her goodies. She messaged me on FaceBook and said she was so glad that I had brought the goodies by. That she had not been able to each much in the past few days and that she could eat what I had brought her. She said I was a great neighbor and she felt so good to know that someone was thinking of her enough to do this for her. Made me feel good and made her feel good too. She is still sick though and if she doesn’t get well in the next couple of day, she has to go into the hospital. They think she may have pneumonia.
I have been able to help my 95 year old terminally ill mom get back to her house using hospice – this has been her desire for many months and now she can have peace and comfort in her last days. Doing this was out of state wasn’t as difficult as I had thought – getting down to be with her in a few days will be the highlight of my year. Today she leaves the hospital and it’s my birthday – AND my son comes home from his third tour in Afghanistan today. It’s a good day scooter. I have also tried my very best to smile more at strangers, open doors, and basically be a better Christian. With God’s help, I will accomplish His will.
praying for you mother Jane.
Went yesterday to a friend’s home who is suffering with terminal cancer and took down all their Christmas decorations for them and put them away in the attic. We are also adopting two precious boys from Ethiopia.
On Thanksgiving we took a plate of food to a homeless guy. No one should be hungry on Thanksgiving.
that is so true….we need to count our blessings each day Abigail.
my best friend from grade school lives in san francisco and just went through having 75% of her tongue removed and the reconstructive surgery for 15hrs from cancer. I live in new york and have supported her even when she can’t speak through constant texting..would love to be able to give her 1 of the beautiful bracelets because she is sooo strong and beautiful..she starts radiation and chemo on Jan 7th and I think this would help her through because i can’t physically be there with her..thanks so much for the chance
Happy New Year from the UK! I love your website & blog and tried so many of your craft items over Christnas period.
And not sure if I can win overseas but would love the chance to own one of these lovely bracelets – how unique.
My 5 yr old daughter was gutted when her cousins got their 2nd dog at Christmas but she still didn’t. We both work and our house is just too small for dogs. But after getting a whole range of lovely new towels this year I needed to do something with the old ones – just throwing away is not an option for me. So after New Year I took my daughter to the local Dog Rescue & Re-homing Centre and we gave 2 huge bags of the old towels to be used as dog bedding. She was thrilled that she could do something to help the dogs and visit them at the same time. Nothing better than making her smile and doing something good at the same time.
We stopped and changed the tire for an elderly couple on the side of the interstate on Christmas Eve!
My husband and I decided to forgo Christmas gifts for each other this year, and instead, we took the money we would have spent on each other and gave gift cards to a few friends who lost everything because of Superstorm Sandy. (I don’t regret doing that, it made us feel good, but can you believe that a few people did not even say thanks?)
I stopped and brought a hot chocolate to a parking lot attendant on a cold New England night.
Did some Christmas baking for friends, family and random people – cakes, cookie and pies and some new desserts found on Pinterest!
I was at the grocery store before Christmas and a woman in front of me had twin babies who were screaming as she was trying to check out. I could tell she was very stressed as she fumbled for her wallet while trying to soothe each child. She didn’t have a lot of groceries but I handed the checkout gal my card and paid for the mom’s groceries for her. She was so gracious and thankful and wanted to write me a check. I told her it was a small gift from one mom to another and wished her a Merry Christmas. It feels so good to do things for others. We all should do something for someone else each day.
I buy games, books, winter scarfs and mittens at garage sales during the summer and give them to an area school that is low income for the students there. I mysterious bring books at library book sales or Goodwill or other sales during the year and drop them off in the teacher’s libraries so the kids have some books in their room to look at. I bought food gifts for my postman every Tuesday for the month of December (they get overlooked).
I try to take care of my family on a daily basis. Even though they are adults, it sometimes is nice to know mom is thinking about you. A e-coffee card, a tip on a blog. And of course, I let my husband think he is sicker than me when we both come down with the same cold, one week after Xmas. ( as in right now)
My family and I visited the area nursing homes to carol and visit with the residents. It was so wonderful to see them chatting with my daughters and enjoying our songs. Many of them had no visitors for the holidays so it was so nice to have been able to brighten their days.
My family and I also volunteer at the local food bank and hand food out to the needy.
We live in a rural mountain community with heavy winter snow so we try to look out for elderly people or young mothers with their hands full and help them with their groceries and to be sure they don’t fall on the ice.
The bracelets are fabulous!
My next door neighbor moved this trash cans to the curb during his renovation on his house. He hasn’t spent but maybe 7 days there in the last year. So I pull his trash cans back behind his house. Sometime’s he doen’t come back for 2 weeks. It’s the neighborly thing to do.
Hosted and cooked for my family. 🙂
Christmas time seems like the season for giving to others when you might not always think as much of others during the couse of the year. I have always tried to teach my kids about how important it is to give to others in need. Each year we get information on needy families and each member of our family will earn money and go shopping for each member of a needy family. We do this at Christmas time and during the summer months as well.
My sisters and I helped care for my dad in last stages of dementia. We stayed with my mom day and night, feeding and caring for my dad, so he would not have to be put in a nursing home. He passed away this past Sunday, and I will never regret those months we spent with him and my mom.
I have been driving my sister-in-law to work all week and it takes me 35 minutes to get to her house from mine than another 20 minutes to get her to work and then another 20-25 minutes for me to get home. And I do this twice a day. I hope her vehicle gets fixed this weekend.
I am a cancer survivor of 2 years plus. One of my good friends’ sister was diagnosed recently with brain cancer and has undergone extensive chemo treatments and has a lengthy last treatment remaining. It has been hard on my friend and her family as they go through the journey together with the treatments. The personal experience I had along with feelings and emotions have helped my friend deal and cope with some of the same things her sister has experienced. I sometimes dont like to talk about the cancer experience, but there are times like this when it is scarey for those new to the journey that they need the most support. If talking about my journey can help someone, then I do it for them. Someone gave me a bracelet that said STRENGTH when I first found out about my cancer. I wore it proudly. I would love to win this bracelet to give to my friend’s sister, who is almost done with her chemo.
I think it would brighten her day! Thank you for the chance to win!
I decided this year that I was not making physical resolutions that I would surely fail, but resolutions to think each day about the blessing I have been given. And I want to share my smile with everyone I see each day. I know that my smile is a gift from God and I need to use it as he sees fit to do. You never know what a smile can do for others.
So here’s a smile for you, Christy from Me!!! May many smiles come your way this year!
I try and clip coupons for every item I might need to purchase and more. Many times I have seen other shoppers viewing items to purchase that I have coupons for and don’t want/need. I always make sure to hand them out. A lot of the time the women are a little surprised, some are even shocked (those would be the freebie coupons). Happy to pass on the savings…
