Earth Day is about celebrating the planet that we live on, it’s a time to focus on building a clean, healthy, diverse world for today and future generations.
Our planet does a lot for us, we should take it out for lunch.
So grab a blanket, a basket of food and head to your favorite park or outdoor spot and help the Nature Conservancy set a world record with the largest picnic celebration!
I made Earth Day cookies! Heather is a stylist at an Aveda salon, and they are celebrating Earth Month as well, so she asked if I could make some cookies for the salon.
Table of Contents
To Make Earth Day Cookies
Supplies Needed
- 4″ round cookie cutter (I also used a scalloped square cookie cutter)
- Vanilla Almond Butter Cookie Dough
- Royal Icing tinted with AmeriColor Sky Blue, Leaf Green, and Bright White
- disposable icing bags
- couplers and tips: #1.5 or #2 (for writing) #5 (for smiley face)
- squeeze bottles
I RECOMMEND FOR MAKING EARTH DAY COOKIES:
To make Globe Cookies:
- using 4″ round cookies
- blue icing (using Callye’s 20-second rule for the consistency) in squeeze bottle
- green icing (consistency 20-second rule) in squeeze bottle
- white icing, piping consistency, in decorator bag with coupler and #1.5 (or #2) tip
Flood entire cookie with blue icing, then use green to make continents (no need to be exact, you just want the effect)
If you want to write on the cookies, let them dry a few hours before writing “Earth Day”
To make Smiley Face Cookies
- blue and green icing (using Callye’s 20-second rule for the consistency) in squeeze bottle
- blue and green icing, piping consistency, in icing bags with coupler and #5 tip
Flood entire cookie in either blue or green. Let dry about an hour, then pipe opposite color for eyes and mouth.
To make square cookies
Follow same instructions as above, using square cookie cutter.

On and around April 22, The Nature Conservancy will encourage people all around the world to celebrate the planet we live on by stepping outside and enjoying good food with great company.
In 2011, the inaugural Picnic for the Planet was a great success with thousands of people joining more than 600 picnics in 61 countries on all seven continents. We even held our own virtual picnic on many of our blogs.
2012: Bigger and Better!
For Earth Day 2012 (April 22), The Nature Conservancy will once again ask people to get outside and join the world’s largest picnic celebration. And this year we are going to make it official: we will attempt to set the world record for the most people picnicking in a 24-hour period. Web visitors can either browse the Conservancy-sponsored picnic events around the world, including in cities like Seattle, Boston and Melbourne, Australia, or sign up to host a picnic with family and friends. Anyone who holds a Picnic for the Planet with at least 25 people can download the materials to be officially included in the record-breaking attempt.
Please join me and a group of friends and fellow bloggers in celebrating Earth Day this year by having a picnic for the planet. What better way to celebrate the Earth Day than with a picnic?

we are big in to recycling and using reusable and dishwasher safe water bottles.
You did an awesome job! So so adorable Cheryl!! I reuse my Chobani cups to color frosting and batter. If I am feeling lazy afterward I can toss and not feel so bad since I’ve been repurposing them. I also like to use them especially when I’m workign with red or black so I don’t have to worry about staining. 🙂
I plan on trying to make a rain barrel to save water when watering my flowers.
I recycle and buy a lot from trader joes which has biodegradable plastic.

we recycle, use reusable water bottles, are trying to break the paper plate habit, re-use food containers from the grocery store, drive hybrid cars.

They turned out so cute, Cheryl!!!
{I recycle.}
We compost all of our food waste and ride our bikes on the weekends to do all of our errands, this includes the kids sporting events and the grocery store. Takes planning but it works!! Happy Earth Day to all.
We curbside recycle, replaced light bulbs, and just broke paper plates habit.
I use cloth grocery bags; never plastic ones!
My husband and I are getting better at recycling and will continue to do so!
The cookies are adorable by the way!

We recycle–we have a 96 gallon bin that’s picked up every two weeks, and it’s usually overflowing. 🙂 I also have a HE washer that uses a lot less water, and we turn lights off when we’re not using them.
The most recent changes we have made is cloth wipes instead of papertowels and faucet filter instead of plastic water bottles!
I started composting last year – definitely worth doing! I put the new stuff in the middle and keep leaves/grass clippings by the side to cover anything, so it stays non-smelly and less ugly.

I always try to purchase recycled products. I also never waste anything. I use everything down to the last drop or fiber.
We recycle everthing poosible. Our bin is always filled to the brim. I also use cloth reusable grocery bags instead of plastic bags from the store. Happy Earth Day!!
We have done a little here and there, including de-cluttering our lives. But I think the change with the most impact, is teaching our children how to live less wastefully.
We recycle and we’ve given up plastic water bottles and use dishwasher safe waterbottles w/a purifier
3 years ago I became vegetarian, bought my own water bottle so I don’t have to buy plastic bottles, and started composting. Great giveaway!

We are big recyclers here at our house. Everything that can be is recycled.
We joined a CSA and now actually buy almost all of our food local! I am trying to get my husband on board to even go to a milk share!

Our family used reusable water bottles exclusively. We also recycle more than we send to the dump.
I tweeted about the Earth Day giveaway and picnic!
