Any recipe that lets me get away with taking a shortcut is a win in my book. This recipe for the most amazing cake mix cookies requires just a few ingredients and a shortlist of easy-to-follow instructions.
To begin, heat your oven and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper or Silpat. Then you will use an electric mixer to combine the cake mix, eggs, and oil until well blended. If you choose to add in any mix-ins, fold them in now.
Once your dough has formed, scoop out the cookie dough onto a prepared cookie sheet and bake until the edges are slightly golden. Let the cookies cool on the pan then transfer cookies to a cooling rack. If frosting, allow cookies to cool completely then top with frosting.

Gotta LOVE those easy peasy recipes with yumminess to them!
My granddaughter and myself made these. They were super easy to make and delicious. Fun to make with kids. Love them.
Oh Yum. I haven’t tried the funfetti ones yet. They look great, especially with frosting! I’ve always made them with the betty crocker devil’s food cake and mixed in mini chocolate chips. Great for a quick and easy chocolate fix or good enough to take to a party, too!
YUM!!!..love the idea of mixing in the mini choc chips too
I try to keep a few of these cake mixes around for when my daughters have friends over. they think they are making homemade cookies and I know I have all the ingredients
That’s a GREAT idea Pam!

I never made these, I’ve heard they are great though. And I agree, I tend to bake something once, we love it, and then I keep baking new things and forget about the others.
Maybe I need to make a favorites folder 🙂

I love cake box cookies. I end up making the red velvet cake box cookies most often, they are my son’t favorite, I even shape them into hearts from a circle and send some extra love in his lunch box!
Thanks for reminding me just how easy they are, we’ve been up to our ears in cupcakes lately so this would be a great way to switch it up.
Hope you have a wonderful week!
Diane those sound REALLY yummy!!
I’ve never heard of cake box cookies before. Now I’m wondering how they would taste if frosted with royal icing?!

Those look so yummy and easy! You can’t beat that combo :).
I make a cake mix cookie that is a little different. My recipe calls for 1 box of cake mix, 1 egg, and 1- 8 oz. container of Cool Whip. After you’ve stirred all that together, you roll into little balls and then roll the balls in powdered sugar and then bake them at 350. They are so good and served at a lot of bridal and baby showers around my neck of the woods. The lemon ones are my favorite! I’ve seen them made with orange, lemon, & strawberry cake mixes).
how long do you bake them
you can find the whole recipe here https://tidymom.net/lemon-cool-whip-cookies/
Oh! These look good and simple to make. Thanks for sharing

These look amazing. And easy! Are they like sugar cookies? Thanks so much for sharing and linkin up to tasty tuesdays. These will for sure be a hit.
These are in the oven as we speak, and from my kids’ experience, it doesn’t happen often that there is baking going on! These were so easy, I think I’ll be buying cake mixes more often. Since my youngest is allergic to peanuts, this is a simple way to make lots of different cookies without worrying about substituting ingredients and such. If you ever find a way to make peanut-butter cookies without peanut butter, let me know!
YUM! I am sure these 30 cookies will not last the whole day. Now to mix icing and let the kids get messy. Did I just say that? OH MY WORD! What is right with me today? Thank you, thank you, thank you!
i am allergic to peanut butter, too and all nuts. i get wow butter, which is soy nuts, and use for any recipe calling for peanut butter and you can not tell difference from peanut butter.
I’d like to “pin” this recipe, but must be having a dumb moment…and I can’t find it under your pinterest boards. Help?
sorry Sarah, no I don’t have this post in my pin boards – but I added a pin it button to the post for you! thanks!

hi I am making these cookies now and there are actually cooking very flat are they supposed to be flat and if not how can I fix that what am I doing wrong thank you
you can add about 1/4 flour to the dough to make them a little fluffier
Has anyone tried this with gluten free cake mix?
Hi! Can I try this recipe without parchment paper, or is that a necessary thing? Is there anything else I might be able to substitute for the parchment paper? Thanks!!!
you can put them on a greased cookie pan without parchment, they may just spread a little more than they would with the parchment
Love them I baked the yellow cake mix with chocolate chips add in and this made delicious chocolate chip cookies. My daughter loved them and requested more. This will replace my regular chocolate chip recipe. Can’t wait to try new cake mix combinations.
I made some german chocolate cookies today and they were awesome. Thanks so much for sharing this simple recipe, I can’t wait to try different flavors.
My daughter loved them and requested more. This will replace my regular chocolate chip recipe.I baked the yellow cake mix with chocolate chips add-in and this made delicious chocolate chip cookies.
I see in both the recipe and a comment that to make them thicker add “1/4 flour”. Would that be 1/4 cup?
yes 1/4 cup! thanks for catching that!
I have been looking for a simple cookie recipe! Thank you for sharing! Was wondering if butter can be used in place of the oil?
yep!! butter is fine!!
Considering i cant bake a cake if my life depended on it but i can bake brownies & cookies just fine- i will be using the cake mix we have to bake these amazing little treats. Thanks for sharing
Quick, easy and YUMMY cookies!
can u use any cake mix even no name brand and what type of oil conola oil vegetable oil
you should be able to use any cake mix (I mostly use Duncan Hines, so I can’t say much for other brands).
Also, I prefer to use canola oil
Can you use gluten free cake mix?
I have not tried that. If you do, please let us know how they turn out.
I was wondering if you could add some fruit to this recipe? I was thinking crushed pineapple (well drained) or dried, or chopped apples (fresh or dried), chopped dried apricots, chopped maraschino cherries … Have you tried making this recipe with any of these? What are your thoughts? Thanks!
I have not tried that!! I don’t see why you couldn’t. Keep us posted if you try it!
my cookies didnt flatten .they puffed up,must be my free range chicken eggs. help!!
My cookies puffed right up. They taste just like a cupcake/cake. Definitely not a cookie. What did I do wrong? I did add 3 eggs instead of 2 because thats what it has on the box, would that be the issue ?
my recipe for cake mix cookies calls for 2 eggs. they are a soft cookie.
I never could find the recipe for the cake mix cookies. Need to know how long to bake and what temp. So many of your food posts look really good. Thank you.
The full printable recipe card is at the end of the post. There is a button at the top of the post you can use “JUMP to RECIPE” – click that and it takes you right to the recipe!! Enjoy!!
Just made these with a red velvet cake mix I had in the pantry. I put chocolate chips in all of them, added macadamia nuts to half. It made about 30 cookies with my medium cookie scoop. It was a betty crocker supreme mix. They taste good (very rich, but that’s how red velvet is) and my husband and kids like them. But question- mine didn’t get as round and flat as your pictures, they were kinds fluffy, is it the kind of mix I had? What’s the trick to make the ckatter like cookies instead of puffy?
Silly question: what is a good ratio of mix ins? A cup?
i really just eyeball it. some people like a lot, others prefer less. But yes, I’d say 1 cup is a good place to start.
Love these recipes.?
did you use a 15.25 oz box of cake mix or 18.25 cause im afraid it wont work with a 15.25
This sounds so easy and delicious! I’ll try them soon! Cheap too!
Hi so i have a quick question will this recipie work with a 15.25 ounce box of cake mix
yep!
Thank you so much i actually made them to take to my grandparents house for christmas and i used strawberry and vanilla and put white chocolate chips and regular chocolate chips in them they were really good and super sweet
one box made about 30-40 cookies
Does this work with angel food cake mix?
I’m not sure what went wrong. They dried on top and made a strange crispy layer that burned while the inside got air holes and is soft. They don’t taste bad. They just aren’t what they should be.
They actually look like they’re trying to be giant macarons that didn’t turn out. They have the macaron “feet”. Maybe the extra egg whites in the angel food cake mix?
I don’t think this hack will work with angel food cake mix.
you can try this for Angel Food Cake Mix Cookies
1 box angel food cake mix
½ cup water
1 large egg
1 cup mini chocolate chips
Mix well, and fold in chocolate chips. Bake on a parchment paper lined pan for 10 minutes in 350° F oven. Cool completely on parchment paper. Remove cookies with a spatula.*these cookies spread a lot, so be sure to leave plenty of room
So easy and delicious! I added chocolate chips to a yellow cake mix…wow! Sooooo good!
Used Red Velvet cake mix with white chocolate chunks. They were great. I like the thicker cookie adding the extra 1/4 c of flour
Made these with spice cake mix. I added gingerbread spice to the dough and made a powder sugar glaze with ginger bread spice and orange zest. They were good but still needed more spice. I did like the texture though so I will definitely try this with other flavors
These are good ! Love this recipes
I questioned the text of the cookies thee ENTIRE time. BUT against all of my emotions I cooked them and LET THEN COOL perfect crunchy edge and soft center 🙂
Fantastic!I like chocolate cake cookies. Making a batch today.
