Buffet turned Media Center | I’m Lovin It

So…….you might remember, oh a few months ago I mentioned I wanted to give our family room a bit of a makeover. Then in November, Jess came in and told you how she was going to virtually help me with some family room inspiration ideas.
My first new purchase for the room was an buffet that I picked up from one of my very favorite shabby shops in St. Louis, The White Rabbit. They are my go-to place when I’m looking for vintage and vintage inspired pieces. As luck would have it, I walked into their shop just an hour before closing one saturday and there she was sitting in the back of the store, she had just been brought out on the floor that morning! It was fate!
The 6 foot wide vintage buffet had been painted a shabby white and was exactly what I was looking for!
After a few days of shopping furniture stores and not finding anything I loved, and all priced over $1,000, my heart sang when I saw this beauty for $350. I love all of the detailing! We removed one drawer to house the components and Steve drilled a hole in the back for the cords. That’s all she needed~ vintage buffet turned media center!! I know I could have spent even more time looking for something similar to paint myself, but I was already tired of how long the room was taking, and I in my mind, the price tag was worth it to have it now, and not to have to paint something myself (trust me, I have plenty of other pieces waiting for me to paint as soon as it warms up) The cute peacock blue chair was a find at Home Decorators a few weeks ago, they have 20% off all upholstered furniture. I have a small table, floor lamp and bookcases all on order and should be here by the end of the month! The roll-top desk will move to another space and I need to start on the wall and goodies for the bookcases! I’ll share the window treatments and mantle in another post. It’s just amazing what paint can do for a room! It took me months to decide on a paint color. I’m terrible at decision. A simple gray paint for your walls should be simple right? wrong! We lived with swatches painted on our wall thru the holidays and I finally decided on Benjamin Moore Coventry Gray! My wonderful friends over at Benjamin Moore were kind enough to send a few gallons to our house and we got started shortly after the tree came down! Once I narrowed down my color choice to four, I’m so happy that I painted swatches on 2 walls and lived with them for over a month. You really need to look at paint in your own home, your own light, with your own furnishings. It’s amazing how entirely different a color can look in a different environment or home! I really recommend to always try samples. Live with them in all light, even put it on a few walls if you can. Walk around your home and live with it for awhile. Then, you can decide what the perfect color is for you. Not only is Coventry Gray the perfect color of gray on my walls, but Benjamin Moore paint was incredible to work with! We used the Aura Interior Paint in Satin finish and the finish on my walls is truly divine! It actually kind of smooths itself out and fills in little imperfections on your wall, hence the dreamy dreamy finish! It dries fast, there was virtually no spatter, all of our walls covered in just one coat and get this…..no smell!! I was gone for a few hours on painting day and when I retuned home, I could not smell paint at all! Let’s take a look back and see what I started with……….. It was such a relief to get the paint finished, we are thinking about new flooring next, probably a darker hardwood or hardwood laminate with a pretty rug. We have two dogs, and I’d would love to eliminate the carpet in this part of the house.

Thank you so much for hosting. I love the paint you chose and trust me, you are not alone. If I have more than one choice I’m lost! 😉
I love your media cabinet. What a unique piece and a clever way to use a buffet. I live in Kansas City. The next time I’m in St. Louis I’ll have to check out The White Rabbit.
Thanks so much for the party Cheryl. I would have never thought to use a Buffet in that manner. However, our TV is sitting on an old piece of furniture for a turntable.
LOVE the buffet and the paint looks gorgeous!! Thanks for the party!

Wow this is beautiful! Good job on the before and after!
Oooh….I love it! Looks exactly like the color of my bedroom! We’ve lived with it for about a year now and I can tell you it’s my favorite color in our house. I use dark purples and chartreuse accents in our room, but that stunning blue chair you have in the corner is really beautiful against the grey. That buffet is gorgeous. I love the curves and the detail…beautiful color on that too!
Your living room is so spacious and pretty! I love the media stand update!
