Back to School Pictures

I mentioned the other day, we started back to school Monday. Isn’t that insane? it’s the middle of the summer. What happened to school starting in the fall?
If I was president I would make ALL schools start after Labor Day! haha
Some days I can’t fathom the thought that our youngest is walking the halls of high school and driving!
Life moves SO fast sometimes………we need to remind our selves and our children, who always want to “grow up” so fast……to SLOW DOWN stop rushing thru life and appreciate the moments that you have now!
Like many families, every year we take the traditional “first day of school pictures” before she hops in her dad’s truck for a ride to school. I think he’s enjoying that ride this year more than ever, since it will probably be the last year she will need a ride. {sniff sniff}
I don’t think my parents took first day of school pictures when we were growing up, so I ‘m not quite sure when the trend became so big. But it’s certainly fun looking back at the outfits the girls put SO much thought into, what hairstyle trends they were sporting, and what backpacks they carried……… it’s a tradition they always look forward to on the first day of school!!- we should take “mom’s first day” pictures to and see how grey she turns each year! {or NOT}
Getting ready for a new school year is such a big part of your childs life, shopping for school supplies, a new wardrobe, meeting new teachers, making new friends……have fun documenting some of those details with your camera.
My friend Rebecca of Simple As That has a Back to School Photo Checklist you can download and print for free! So when you are teary-eyed dropping those little ones off on their first day you can use this list and be inspired with her photo ideas and prompts, before you blow kisses as they walk thru those doors to a new chapter in their life.

We take pictures in front of our mailbox each year as my daughter waits for the school bus. It has been fun to see how much she has grown from year to year! This year I was helping out at her school on the first day and we didn’t get to take the “mailbox” picture…it felt so strange…but we made sure to take it the next day!

Each of my kids have a scrapbook of First Days of School. There are pictures of them dressed in their new clothes, sitting at their desks, and standing with friends and new teacher. They love to look at their books and share memories.

I took back to school pictures this year. Each kid made a sign that stated the year of school they were in and held it for some of the pictures. Not only can we tell what year it was just by looking at the picture, but we also get to see the progression of their handwriting!
We take pictures every year of the kids going off to school. I create a “back to school” page in our yearly photo book that I make and order online! It’s fun to look back and compare to last year!
We always take back to school pics! & they go straight to the front of our fridge!

We pretty much do the boring with your backpack photo, so thanks for the photo list! I try to get one with the teacher on the first and last day of school too!

I sent my youngest off to Kindergarten this morning. We took pictures of him and his big sister who is going into the fourth grade. It seems like just yesterday I was taking her picture as she left for Kindergarten. At Christmas, I make a photo book for all the grandparents and ourselves that these pictures will be included in. It’s just an overview of our year in pictures.
Thanks for the opportunity to win the Target gift card.
My youngest is a junior at my high school. It’s killing me to know my other two are in college and this is all that’s left!
I’ve been pretty busy so I haven’t had time to dwell…….
We do take pictures (we were in a hurry this week and missed our first day shot) 🙁
I love looking back at all the many first day photo’s! I should do something cute for each child!
Thanks for the inspiration!
We usually take pics on the first day back to school, but missed it this time.
I have always taken pictures on the first day of school, but have not done anything unique or different. I appreciate the ideas you gave on your post.
By the front door and we used to do by the marquee of the school…But my oldest is in 4th grade this year and she didn’t want to be bothered with that…

I love to take back-to-school pictures and usually like to take a few inside the school, in one of the classrooms if possible. I also try to take a few pictures of some of my son’s friends, those who have working moms. Some moms are unable to be there for the first day of school so I try to take a few pictures of their kids and email them to them. They appreciate this!

I usually take a picture of each child by the door as they leave for school. This year I embellished the photo with a list of their favorite things so it’ll be a fun photo to look at and remember years from now.

Our one and only starts kindergarten next week, so I’m thinking of starting a tradition of him holding a sign with the grade on it. So we’ll (hopefully) have a chronological series, K-12!
My oldest is 3, so in a few months I’ll be taking her to preschool! I’m definitely excited to do school pictures with her. 🙂

Monday will be our first, first day of school…we’ve homeschooled up till now. So, I have three starting 4th, 1st and Pre-K, so I’m sure there will be pictures!
My mom would take photos of us throughout our school years, not necessarily just the first day and made a scrapbook/album with them. I still have mine and continued it when I started high school although stopped once I got to college.

I am starting my son in K4 this year, and we will be homeschooling. But, because of this post, I will take pictures at the beginning of school each year! Great idea!

We didn’t do that with our kids, but I wish we would have!
We take pictures of their first day with their backpacks and on their way to school!
I will have to do this! Great idea!

Haven’t taken them yet but I definitely will!
My daughter is just two, so we haven’t done the back to school pictures yet- but I totally plan to! I think it’s such a great idea to document such a huge part of their lives!
I take a very candid photo of who they are each year. There’s one year a picture of my youngest, but it’s pretty much just the back of him and his backpack. Every time I see this photo in his album I think of how shy he was at that time. 🙂

My daughter never likes her hair done up but tonight, the day before school, wanted her hair put in spadoodles to make it curly! She could only find three, so searched in another drawer and found 10 big fat velcro rollers I used a long time ago. She insisted on using these and wasn’t a bit worried about sleeping on them. It was so cute seeing her look in the mirror and admire her curler doo. Daddy said let’s take a “night before first day of school” this year, so we did. Maybe I’ll make a little photo collage for her including the morning of and getting out of school!!
Just found your site and am having fun viewing. Tomorrow will be my “first day of trying new cookies”! Can’t wait!!
I always take a photo on the first day (and the last day to compare.) But I don’t do anything too exciting for them, usually just a few snapshots at the bus stop.
