Back to School Pictures

I mentioned the other day, we started back to school Monday. Isn’t that insane? it’s the middle of the summer. What happened to school starting in the fall?
If I was president I would make ALL schools start after Labor Day! haha
Some days I can’t fathom the thought that our youngest is walking the halls of high school and driving!
Life moves SO fast sometimes………we need to remind our selves and our children, who always want to “grow up” so fast……to SLOW DOWN stop rushing thru life and appreciate the moments that you have now!
Like many families, every year we take the traditional “first day of school pictures” before she hops in her dad’s truck for a ride to school. I think he’s enjoying that ride this year more than ever, since it will probably be the last year she will need a ride. {sniff sniff}
I don’t think my parents took first day of school pictures when we were growing up, so I ‘m not quite sure when the trend became so big. But it’s certainly fun looking back at the outfits the girls put SO much thought into, what hairstyle trends they were sporting, and what backpacks they carried……… it’s a tradition they always look forward to on the first day of school!!- we should take “mom’s first day” pictures to and see how grey she turns each year! {or NOT}
Getting ready for a new school year is such a big part of your childs life, shopping for school supplies, a new wardrobe, meeting new teachers, making new friends……have fun documenting some of those details with your camera.
My friend Rebecca of Simple As That has a Back to School Photo Checklist you can download and print for free! So when you are teary-eyed dropping those little ones off on their first day you can use this list and be inspired with her photo ideas and prompts, before you blow kisses as they walk thru those doors to a new chapter in their life.

We just took our first day of 1st grade picture this morning! He stands in front of our front door with a sign telling what grade, the teachers’ names and school info. We’ve done this since playschool when he was 2! It is so awesome to have these memories to share will all our family across the miles.
We have taken a picture of the first day of school since she started pre school at age two(what was I thinking – if she goes to college she will be in school for 20 years) and we always take in front of the front door & it’s cool because you can see how much she’s grown year to year.
My son (4 ) is still a little young for school– next year– but since I take approx. 2,500 pictures of him a day, I’m sure we will be taking some back to school photos (and probably one of mom sobbing too)
I’m a Tidy Mom fan on Facebook!
I take pictures of my kids standing on our front porch with their backpacks on the first day of school.

We do take back to school pictures, but we don’t really do anything special with them other than to put them in a photo album. I love the idea of having them hold signs with their grade or age.

It’s hit or miss! I like to get first day of school pictures but my kiddo, not so much. I have been able to get one about every other year.
My Grandma used to take photos of me the first day of school since I lived with her until I was almost 7 years old. Once I lived with my mother there were no more pictures.
I did take pictures of my own children on their first days of school and shared them with family and friends.
We take pics before starting our day, always on the porch. You can see how much bigger the kids get each year. My mom always did first day pics. It is so fun to look back at the clothes. The first day outfit took so much planning! lol It was always the cutest/trendiest so you can see what was ‘in’ at that moment. When my brother started his teaching job his wife took ‘first day’ pics for my mom….holding his briefcase and coffee on the front porch.
When I was younger my mom used to take back to school pictures of my friends and I each year on our front porch on the first day

My kids aren’t school-age yet. My oldest will start kindergarten next year. I hope to do as my mom did and take a photo in the same spot every year (like the front steps of the house.)
It’s fun to look back at my old pictures not only to see my outfits but also to look back at our family home and how it’s also changed over the years.
One other MUST HAVE photo is one of her stepping onto the bus for the first time. I’m getting misy eyed just thinking about it.
My mom has a picture of me getting on the bus and even wrote the bus driver’s name (Rose) on the back of the photo.

My mom has always been a HUGE scrapbooker so we always took them when we were little. We have one on the way now and I intend to continue her tradition. It’s always fun to go back and see how you change year to year.
I don’t have kids but I am a teacher and I teach kindergarten. Each year I take a back to school photo with my students and we make individual memory books for each student. I love the photo list. I have a hard time some months thinking of pictures to take if we don’t have something special happening that month.
I do take pic’s of my kids on the first day of school, but as they get older it’s harder to get them to want to! 🙁
My oldest was in Kindergarten last year so next week she starts first grade! I took lots of pics last year as we were walking to the bus (yes she wanted to ride the bus the very first day!) I also took a pic of her and her little sister next to our mailbox (the bus stop) and thought I would do that each year to see how she grows from year to year! I thought even if we move mailboxes are usually about the same height!
We do at the first day and last day of school. Then, I make a collage to see how much they changed in one school year. Family and friends love to see it! This year I made a picture frame photo prop for them!

I do take pictures every year on the first day of school. Several years ago, for one of my pictures, my son started holding up the same number of fingers for the year he was entering in school. He will be a Sophomore this year so he will be using all ten fingers. I guess next year he will have to start adding toes. : )
I took pictures this morning since we started school today! My older kids, 8th and 11th grade, went along with it, and my younger two, 2nd and 4th grade, still get excited about it. I printed out
WE TAKE 1ST DAY OF SCHOOL PICS. EVERY YR. HOW THEY GROW SOOO MUCH YR AFTER YR!

I just started taking first day pics last year when my daughter went to KG – she wasn’t very cooperative 🙁 I love looking at the ones my mom took of myself and my friends every year in front of our elementary school – some of the same people I am still FB friends with!!
Love yoru blog. I take way too many pictures first day back to school. Doesn”t everybody? lol
I have never taken back to school pictures, but I think it is a great idea of something to start when my kid reaches school age. 🙂
My kids have all graduated from high school and are on their own now but I always took their pictures on the first day of school. My middle son just started back to college. I asked him today if I could take his picture. He politely declined my request. 🙁
I don’t take B2S pictures but we do photoscrapbooking of pics of their school achievements during the school year.

Not quite old enough to have kids, and seeing as I’m still a student, I get excited about going to back to school myself. My mom certainly took first day of school pictures of me and my siblings throughout high school, and I’m sure she still does it back at home 3000 miles away from my university. My favorite thing about this time of year is and has always been shopping for new school supplies! This gift card would be such a huge help for that right now.
I don’t have kids but my dad used to take pictures by the front door every first day of school! This is a tradition that I would like to keep up once I have kids.
I always took first day of school photos even through high school and they even included Dad because he is an English teacher and it was his first day with kids as well! My boys are grown but they still love looking at the photos!
Yup, every year! Since we have 4 kids, we do their pictures together!
I have never taken back to school pictures with my kids. My daughter will start K–4 this year and I am so excited!!
When i was little, we took pictures EVERY first day of school! but i’m grateful for my dear mother to do so, i love memories!
