The best of both worlds come together for this game-changing cocktail recipe! Part summer staple, sangria, part classic favorite, Mexican mule. It really doesn’t get any better than that.
You haven’t lived until you’ve tried this subtlety sweet and fruity concoction that packs a perfect tequila punch. The spice from the ginger beer and dry red wine notes come through to make sure your tastebuds are hit with bursts of everything cocktail dreams are made of.
Don’t think you need extensive bartender training to put together this Mexican mule recipe. I am by no means an expert, and this recipe is a complete breeze for me and my family! No crazy tools or skills required, so even if you’re a complete beginner with limited tools, this recipe is for you!
What’s In A Sangria Mexican Mule?
This sangria Mexican mule is almost just like your favorite Moscow mule with a few fruity and fun flavor enhancements.
In this cocktail, you’ll find tequila instead of vodka. You’ll also need to pop open your favorite bottle of red for this cocktail as well because red wine is another main component as well. Here’s the full list of ingredients you’ll need for the recipe:
- Red wine (my favorite is Nobel Pig Pinot Noir)
- Fresh lime juice
- Ginger beer (I prefer Fever Tree)
- Fresh blackberries
- Lime slices

Bartending 101: How to Make The Perfect Cocktail
Measure accurately: I can’t stress enough how important it is to measure accurately with this one. Too much eyeballing and you be in danger of creating one lethal cocktail. I highly suggest using a shot glass with measurements on the side. It makes measuring the ingredients a breeze and ensures that each glass full is the same.
Chill your ingredients: Since we aren’t using a shaker for this recipe (which makes everything ice cold) you’ll want to make sure everything is nice and cold. Keep your tequila, wine, and ginger beer in the refrigerator until ready to use. This way no one has to dilute their drink by adding ice.
Don’t skimp on the alcohol quality: I’m not saying you have to go and drop hundreds of dollars on alcohol, but try to avoid the bottom shelf brands. You’ll most likely be best with anything above the $10-15 range per bottle. Anything more pricey than that and the quality isn’t any different.
How to pick the best wine for a sangria cocktail
For this sangria cocktail, you won’t want a wine that’s too sweet, since it already has other sweet components to it. Something in the semi-dry to dry will be best. The choice for dryness is up to you, and how sweet you want the cocktail.
I like a decently sweet drink, so I used a pinot noir which is a semi-dry red wine. If you want something dry, a good option will be a cabernet or merlot.
Can I Make This Mexican Mule as A Mocktail?
I know we all love when a cocktail can be made into a refreshing treat anyone can enjoy, but some recipes make those modifications harder than others.
With the recipe including two different alcohol components, removing or replacing them will completely change the essence of the drink.
Technically you could remove the tequila and replace the wine with a dark fruit juice, but it won’t really taste anything like the cocktail version of this recipe, therefore I do not recommend trying to make this exact recipe as a mocktail.
If you’re in the market for a really good mocktail, I can’t recommend this Apple Pomegranate Spritzer enough.

The weather is FINALLY warming up, which means we are all coming out of hermit ” I’m not leaving this warm house” mode. What better way to celebrate that news than with a fun house party with all your friends!

- 2 ounces tequila
- 1 ounce red wine (I use Pinot Noir), chilled
- 1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
- 4 ounces ginger beer, chilled
- fresh blackberries and lime slices for garnish
