Easy One-Pot Spaghetti

So, I know you might be thinking “wow, just another spaghetti recipe, what’s the big deal?” but I’ll tell you right now this isn’t just any other spaghetti recipe. It is hands down the BEST spaghetti I’ve ever made at home, and honestly rivals a lot of dishes I’ve had at restaurants too.

There are so many things that make this easy one-pot spaghetti so great. First off, as the name suggests, you only need ONE pot. yes just one single pot, so you know what that means… the easiest clean up ever. Second, the homemade sauce mixed with the Italian sausage is to die for.

As someone who is usually a big fan of popping open whatever jarred sauce I have in the pantry then calling it a day, I get the appeal of making your own sauce, even for a dish as simple as spaghetti. The creamy sauce is full of flavor and really takes this simple dish to the next level.

Ingredients Needed For Easy One-Pot Spaghetti

For this recipe, yes you will need a few extra ingredients than if you made spaghetti with premade sauce, but trust me, those few extra ingredients, and a little bit of extra time is so worth it.

  • Ground Salsiccia (Italian sausage)
  • Garlic salt
  • Chicken broth
  • Crushed tomatoes, undrained
  • Fire-roasted diced tomatoes, undrained
  • Uncooked spaghetti
  • Italian seasoning
  • Crushed red pepper flakes
  • Whipping cream
  • Parmesan cheese and fresh basil for serving

How Is Italian Sausage Different From Other Sausage?

The biggest difference in Italian sausage versus other sausage is how it is seasoned and spiced.

Italian sausage comes in two different spice levels, sweet (the same thing as mild) Italian variety, which is primarily flavored with fennel and garlic and Hot Italian sausage contains the same spices, with a hint of chile pepper to bring up the spice level.

If you want to swap out the Italian sausage for a different sausage, you can, it just won’t have the same Italian flair to it. I often make spaghetti with ground beef which is also great.

How to Make One-Pot Spaghetti

Spaghetti is always known as one of those “just throw it together” dinners when you can’t think of anything else to make because it’s so easy. This recipe is no different. You get all the ease of a basic easy spaghetti recipe, with the added flavor of a few extra ingredients.

Start by placing the ground sausage in a 5-quart Dutch oven or large saucepan over medium-high heat. Then you’ll season with garlic salt and cook sausage until browned and no longer pink, and drain well.

Next, stir in the chicken broth, tomatoes, spaghetti, Italian season and red pepper flakes and heat to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium, cook, stirring frequently. Once cooked, add the cream and continue cooking and stirring until pasta is tender and sauce is thick and creamy. Finally, serve immediately with parmesan cheese and fresh basil.

What To Serve With One-Pot Spaghetti

For weeknight dinners, we keep things pretty simple. Most nights we have an easy main dish, a simple green veggie, and some rice or other starch, and that’s it. I know everyone always thinks food bloggers serve the most amazing elaborate dinners to their family, but there’s my confession.

So, if I was serving this as my weeknight dinner here’s what I would go with to keep things easy: Roasted Parmesean Asparagus, and some Garlic Butter Buns. Tips For One-Pot Spaghetti

  • Keep an eye on the pot. You’ll need to stir the noodles well and often, so don’t just walk away or they will start to stick together.
  • Make sure you use a pot that is wide enough to fit all of the spaghetti noodles. I like to use a Dutch oven, but  a wide soup pot or a deep large non-stick skillet will work too.
  • Break the raw spaghetti in half before placing into the pot if you are worried your pot isn’t wide enough.
  • Add more chicken broth if the sauce dries up and the spaghetti is not fully cooked.
  • Adjust any of the seasonings to your preference. The measurements I have were perfect for what I like, but feel free to adjust to your personal preferences.

Can You Cook Noodles in Pasta Sauce?

Yes, you can cook noodles or pasta in the tomato sauce! The only thing you have to do is thin the sauce with liquid. For this recipe, I used tomato juice to make the sauce because it’s thinner and that ensures the pasta will cook properly. I love that you can cook pasta and the sauce all in one pan.
