Why Make Chex Mix In The Slow Cooker?
Do you have to make your Chex nut mix in a Crock-Pot? No. I love this cooking method though because, in all honesty, it’s the easiest. I just throw it all in the pot, stirring occasionally, then it’s done.
Not to mention it frees up the oven, so I can make other recipes like our favorite Garlic Chicken Puffs! So, when it comes to why you should make Crock Pot Chex mix, the answer is simple, it’s an easy, no fuss, delicious way to make a big batch of your favorite homemade snack mix.
Can I Make This Crock Pot Chex Mix in An Instant Pot?
Yes, you can! Making this Crock Pot Chex mix in the instant pot is just as easy, if not easier than making it in the Crock-Pot. To make your slow cooker Chex mix in the instant pot, instead, simply follow these instructions.
Mix up all your ingredients, according to the recipe card, but instead of placing it in the crockpot and cooking on low, place your ingredients in your instant pot, and cook on high for 30 minutes. Once done, let the pot slow release the pressure for 10 minutes, then manually release the rest, and continue following the direction as listed in the recipe card.

(full printable recipe at the end of this post)
This Crock Pot Chex mix is one of those recipes, that’s pretty much just a dump and cook kind of recipe. There’s not a lot to it other than gathering up all the ingredients, then occasionally coming back to stir everything up. If you’re someone who’s new to the kitchen, but still want to contribute to your next potluck, or party, then this recipe is for you!
To make your own Crock Pot Chex mix just combine all of the ingredients in a slow cooker and toss to coat. Cover and cook on low, stirring once every 45 minutes.
Once the mixture is cooked, spread it onto wax paper and allow to cool.
What Else To Add To Crock Pot Chex Mix
I personally think this slow cooker Chex mix is perfect just the way it is, but you can always add in a few extras if want to have some fun with the recipe.
Here are a few of my favorite add-ins to mix it up every once in a while:
- Mini Breadsticks
- Plain, or chocolate Cheerios
- Raisins (mix in after the Chex mix has cooked and cooled)
- M&M’s, chocolate chips, or any of your favorite baking chip flavor (mix in after the Chex mix has cooked and cooled)
Tips For Making The Best Crock Pot Chex Mix
- Don’t overcook: With a recipe that cooks for this long in the slow cooker it can be easy to forget, so set a timer to remind yourself to check on it so you don’t end up overcooking.
- Remember to stir! The bottom of the Chex mix can burn and stick to the bottom. Not only will you have ruined the recipe, but you will also have a big mess to clean out of your crockpot.
- Stir gently: Unless you want o end up with a crumbly mess, don’t dirt to aggressively. Go at it like you would when folding whipped cream into a recipe.
- Play around with the seasonings: If you’d like more of a certain flavor profile then adjust any of the seasonings to your liking. This does have a bit of a spice to it, so if you don’t like spice at all, I suggest leaving out the cayenne pepper.
How Long Does Homemade Crock Pot Check Mix Last?
Technically speaking, your Crock-Pot Chex mix recipe will last at room temperature for about 2 weeks when stored in an airtight container. With that being said, my family usually devours the whole batch within a couple of days.
It’s one of those snacks where you keep saying “just one more handful” until suddenly the bag is gone. It’s seriously too good to only eat a little.

I’ve been using this same crockpot for years and it still my all-time favorite slow cooker to use!
Wax paper great to have around any time you want to make snack mixes, or candy that needs to cool, it also perfect for rolling out cookie dough.
A few years back I threw out all my mismatched containers and bought this matching set, and it has been a lifesaver. Since many of them are all uniform it makes grabbing the perfect size container and matching lid a breeze.
