Stainless Steel Straws Changed My Life | I’m Lovin’ It

Ok, so that title might be a little dramatic……but have you ever drank a smoothie or milkshake thru a stainless steel straw?

Last month I started on the road to enjoying a green smoothie a day, and my mind was kind of blown when I bought a few stainless steel straws!
Not only are they better for the environment, but they make your smoothies tasty frosty cold! I know what you’re thinking……..I thought the same thing, my smoothie is already cold, how ‘warm’ could it get sliding up a paper or plastic straw. But I’m here to tell you, it’s kind of crazy, but it really does make it taste so much colder!
When reading a few online reviews about stainless steel straws, I saw some people complain that they hurt their teeth……. I don’t know about you, but I don’t drink thru a straw with my teeth, so my teeth never touch the straw, so that is not a problem for me. 😉
You do need to make sure to get a little brush to clean them with, especially if you are drinking green smoothies…..those ingredients really seem to stick inside the straw. You can still pop them in the dishwasher to sanitize, but I just wash them by hand.
I bought my straws and brush from ecojarz.com when I bought the mugs and lids — note, for some reason I put my lids together upside down the day I shot this, the lid insert should stick out above the ring, not sunk down in it. lol

That’s how you clean them!? I had some similar hard plastic straws, but stopped using them because they were so difficult to clean. May I ask where you found this miracle brush?

My teeth are so sensitive that I feel like just having the metal in my mouth would give my chills… But your title and endorsement totally makes me want yo try them now!
I’ve been trying to drink a green smoothie a day as well. Thanks for sharing the straws, I’ll have to check them out. I could use one of those little brushes too. I’ve been soaking one of my plastic straws for days trying to get the goop out!

The brushes work best, but in a pinch, chenille sticks work, too!

Wow- that’s quite the seller! I think I would have to be a try before I buy kind of gal but I’m totally loving the idea of my smoothie staying super cold.

I have 2 that were my parents 60- 70 years ago. They have ivy leaf looking ends. I found some at an antique store in LaFayette, but would love some more! Love using them!
Wow. Thanks so much for the post on steel straws. I have seen them featured in magazines and such, but never knew where to get them. I ordered a set of jars and straws today. Unfortunately because I’m in Canada my shipping isn’t free….it’s $19.99. Quite painful.

My steel straws have a spoon on one end and I love them, too!
We love stainless steel straws. I replaced any and all straws to them a few years ago, and it was one of the best investments I made. I no longer have to buy straws, and my kids love them. We have both straight and bent varieties, and you can get wider “smoothie” straws, too.
I found some metal straws that are i bit bigger at 7-11 they are $1.00. They are do more your drinks cooler!!
