This effortlessly elegant Nutella and Fruit Tart recipe will soon become your favorite summer dessert!
It’s week two of Spark Your Summer! Today I’m thrilled to have Courtney from Sweet C’s Designs here with a quick and fabulous recipe that’s elegant but oh so simple to make and perfect for summer. Make sure to head over to her site full of amazing ideas, delicious recipes and more!
Hi! My name is Courtney, and I write over at Sweet C’s Designs. I love to craft, bake, cook and find creative solutions for my everyday life- but with 2 kids under 4 at home, I try to keep things as simple as possible. The dessert I am sharing with you today is one of the most simple, quick and undisputed desserts you can make– but it looks like you’ve spent hours creating it.
This dessert is deceptively simple. When I make it, I always get a lot of oohs and aaahs- but it really only takes about 5 minutes to put together, and then you can just throw it in the oven to bake. The hardest part of the whole recipe is slicing an apple, but it looks like you’ve spent hours making a pretty pastry.
Feel free to change up some of the ingredients- I used to make this in college but I would usually just dump a bunch of berries on a whole sheet of puff pastry (before I knew of the glory that is Nutella). If you have the puff pastry sheets, use one. You can cut it in half or into thirds for longer tarts. You’ll also need to double the recipe below since the pre-cut tarts are so small they don’t need a whole lot of topping.
You can make any kind of design with the fruit topping- I just made circles with the apples and topped with two blackberries and some strawberry slices- but feel free to add a touch of your own creativity!
First, you’ll want to generously spray your pan to prep it so the puff pastry doesn’t stick. Give it a very generous coat,
then place puff pastry on the cookie sheet.
Spread the Nutella on when the puff pastry is still a little frozen. Add about 1/2 teaspoon (or more, depending on how much you like) straight to the top.
Toss fruit in lemon juice and brown sugar. Add a pinch of celtic sea salt while you’re tossing the fruit to balance out the sweetness and develop more flavor.
Top tarts with fruit.
If you are making ahead for a party, you can go ahead and stop here and cover tarts to refrigerate until it is party time.
Bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes, or until puff pastry is puffy and slightly browned. Because of the heavy toppings, it may sink a it right when you pull it out of the oven- but it will still look and taste great.
Top with powdered sugar, or serve with ice cream, and enjoy!
This recipe is pretty versatile. You could switch out different fruits, or try some cookie butter in place of the Nutella. I love how pretty they look- even though it only takes about 5 minutes to make 6 of these tarts.
I like to keep puff pastry in my freezer all summer long in case we have impromptu guests- because this is such an easy and delicious dessert to throw together in no time!
Nutella & Fruit Tarts
