Living in a house with 2 daughters, 4 dogs, and one messy husband , I deal with my fair share of spontaneous messy moments. There’s the spilled sodas, toothpaste all over the bathroom, peanut butter smears on my kitchen cabinets, and of course, the muddy paw prints that sneak their way in on a daily basis.
I knew when I started having children that life would get messy. But what I didn’t know was that it doesn’t get any easier when they get older! lol
Each and every day I find myself rewarded with never-ending messy moments in kitchen and bathroom. My weapon of choice for battling the mess and germs? Clorox! One gallon of hot water and a little Clorox Bleach and I don’t have to worry about dirt and germs!
When Clorox approached me about their Bleach It Away program, I loved the idea!! Messy moments, although exhausting for a mom, can be hilarious or even a learning experience!
I recently taught my daughter how to clean up during a messy moment in the kitchen over the holidays. Hint: it involves eggs!
(why do I look like I’m about to sneeze in that frame? lol)
FYI- she got back in the kitchen and made a fabulous batch of brownies that she was SO proud of!

Loved the tip about cleaning up eggs in the video! I just had a messy moment last night. I filled up a flower vase with water and as I was lifting out of the sink it hit the side and shattered in my hands into the sink and all over the floor. 🙁
oh no Sylvie!! hope you didn’t get cut!
I have lots of messy moments with four kids! I love the egg tip.
lol I bet you do Shaina!!
Your video is great Cheryl. I have had to clean up the occasional dropped egg but never an entire carton at once. Talk about a messy moment for sure. The salt tip is great and a new one for me. At least the brownies came out amazingly!
Thanks Paula, it was quite the mess!! but those brownies were worth it!
Loving your video – well done!
Messy moments are plenty with a two year old… I can count at least 4 things that have happened today, the worst being 2 year old finding finger nail polish that her sisters left and going to town on the bookshelf with it. Fun times!
oh no!!! I know you have your hands full with her Kristen!!
Love your video. I think it is great!
I feed our baby (yellow lab) in the laundry room–luckily it’s a white tile floor, but she makes a mess slobbering all over the place with her morning meal. She takes herbs so I have to mix it with water in her dog food.
I am going to mix up a bottle of clorox and water so I can clean up her “messy moments.”
Thanks for the tip!
Robin
Thanks Robin!! Our fur babies are a huge source of mess all the time! lol……..but they are worth it!! lol
Oh you’re a better one than me, I’d probably lose it over that many eggs to clean up but will have to remember the salt trick. Everytime we eat at Japanese Steak house I have to remind my boys not to try flipping eggs at home 🙂
It’s funky cold/flu season at my son’s school with a happy case of Rotovirus for grins & giggles…I need to mix up a spray bottle of Clorox & water to germicide the restrooms & doorknobs.
Thanks,
Amy
PS… the brownies look great but are those eggs on the top?
Thanks for the tip – my six year old loves to “help” cook! I am sure i will be using the egg tip quite soon!
I LOVE your video Cheryl and hope you’ll make many more!!!
My kids and I were trying to make chocolate bowls for Valentine’s Day last year, with melted chocolate and balloons. We did not let the chocolate cool enough and when we dipped the inflated balloon into the chocolate, the balloon exploded – chocolate went EVERYWHERE !!!!
Our messiest moment where we NEEDED our Clorox bleach, was the Friday after Thanksgiving 2011. We were winding down from our 2.5 days of fun with my cousin, her husband and her daugther…. when my cousin exclaimed in a comment of a question ‘your basement floor is wet, is it always wet?” Ummm.NO! The septic backed up into our entire basement. We had only finished painting the floor 3 days before, setting up a pretty guest room. We first used the dry vaccum, and got up the wetness. NEXT we mopped with Clorox bleach on 3 separate occasions, drying inbetween. I was finally reassured that the stink was gone. We would use your gracious contest prize $$ to pay for the new septic that our local contractor so readily put in just a day before the December frost! Clorox is a must-have product in our home.
“and on a bad day, blood.” Haha!!! I hope you don’t have too many of those!
You look so pretty in the video, Cheryl! Good to SEE you! 🙂
Great to see you on a video! I had no clue about the salt on the egg! What a great tip. Good job on the video!
I loved your video Cheryl and seeing you!! Great job!

My husband and I planned a small Thanksgiving feast for my aging father-in-law who can no longer handle the loud extended family members. Each holiday, we imagine that it may be his last, and since he loves turkey, it’s important that he is able to consume his beloved bird in peace. Typically, he eats and then asks to be driven home for his nap. Simple enough! Right?
The plan was for my husband to rise early, start the turkey, then I would get up mid-morning and begin the sides so that we could make it an early lunch with father-in-law, and then join my earsplitting family for dinner. I woke, bleary eyed and in need of a cup of caffeine, innocently strolled into the kitchen. My liquid jolt would have to wait, as my husband supplied a visual jolt. There, before my eyes, he kneeled by the oven cleaning up glass and dripping turkey juices, the turkey resting solidly on the oven rack. My husband had chosen a glass Pyrex dish to bake the bird and as the bird began to look a little parched, he poured a cool glass of water over the thirsty Tom. When the cool liquid hit the hot dish, it exploded with a bang! It was so loud; he assumed that the pop woke me, as it just happened! Tiny bits of glass resembling a smashed car window sprayed all over the oven and kitchen floor—along with the oozing juices and bits of meat covering my recently scoured appliance.
A big debate ensued: husband wanted to simply rinse the bird and put him back in the oven, while I wanted to toss the tom and bake some chicken breasts in hopes that Dad wouldn’t notice. We compromised, slicing off the top of the bird for turkey cutlets! It was a lovely meal and dad was none the wiser!
