Do you dream of a bathroom that always sparkles? Want to learn how to keep your bathroom clean in 5 minutes a day? It’s easy, I promise! It may sound like a chore to clean your entire bathroom every day, but there are 4 simple steps that can become a daily habit and only take a few minutes.
This is our master bath (we painted it Benjamin Moore Coventry Gray). You could stop by my house almost any time and our bathroom would look pretty much like this – looks clean doesn’t it?
Want to know how I do it?
I’m a stickler for staying on-top of things. Don’t let it become a big mess and not only does it stay looking nice, but takes less time to take care of. I even followed these steps when I worked outside the home.
So here’s what you can do to keep your bathroom clean in just 5 minutes a day.
To be honest, some days it doesn’t even take me that long, and the days that I’m in a HUGE rush, I simply put away everything I used (brush, hair dryer, toothpaste, make-up etc) and wipe the sink and counter off! That alone can be done in just ONE minute and will make a HUGE difference! I promise!!

How to Keep Your Bathroom Clean In 4 Steps
Clear Surfaces: Put everything away – your flat iron, make-up, all hair products, combs/brushes and those pesky bobby pins that seem to appear out of nowhere. Dirty clothes and towels should be off the floor and put in the laundry or hung up. 1 minute
Surface Cleaning: Spray showers with daily cleaner (right after you shower) to prevent soap scum build up. Give the counters and sink a quick wipe down to pick up rogue hairs, powder, and toothpaste.
Next, wipe down the toilet tank, handle, seat, base, and the lip of toilet bowl – in that order. Keep a bottle of all-purpose cleaner under the vanity along with a bin of rags so everything is handy.
Next, swish water around the inside of the bowl with a toilet brush and flush. I also like to keep a container of cleaning wipes under the sink to wipe the floor around the toilet and for quick cleanups at any time. 2 minutes
Clean the Mirror: Keep a designated microfiber cloth under the sink for the mirror. It’s easier to get toothpaste splatter off if it doesn’t sit for days. Just lightly dampen the microfiber cloth and give the mirror a quick wipe.
If the mirror is already clean, use this time to wipe down your sink and bath fixtures and make them shine. I keep this cloth hanging on the vanity door to re-use and toss it in the laundry once a week. 1 minute
Straightening Up: Pull your shower curtain closed so it can air out. Refold towels, make sure the toilet paper is stocked and straight up the items that live on your countertops and in your shower. 1 minute
Tip: Keep the supplies where you use them; shower cleaner in the shower, toilet cleaner near the toilet, the and the all-purpose cleaner below the sink. If its within reach, you will be more inclined to use it.
And there you have it…a clean bathroom in 5 minutes.
Make these steps a daily habit and you will always have a bathroom that’s in good shape.

If you have several family members using the same bathroom enlist their help, by teaching everyone to put things away, and pick up towels and dirty clothes before leaving the bathroom. By keeping supplies handy, older children can help wipe down the bathroom after they use it as well.
Once a week you can take time for a few more steps, like emptying the trash, clean the tub/shower, mop the floor. Check out my golden rules for cleaning the bathroom.
People with a tidy home and spotless bathrooms follow these steps and it makes deep cleaning the bathroom an easier chore in the long run

Love your bathroom color! What is the paint brand and color?
Thanks! it’s the same paint color we used in the family room https://tidymom.net/2014/buffet-turned-media-center/ Benjamin Moore Coventry Gray
Thanks! Would you mind sharing where you purchased your rug? Thank you.
Kohls
I need to get better about picking up right after I’m done getting ready! I normally leave it all about until I get home that evening!
well, at least you’re doing it Angie!! – if evening works best for you – that’s ok!
You’ve given me hope! The one room I dread cleaning doesn’t seem so daunting now. I always told my husband that if I could afford it, I would have someone in just to clean the bathrooms. Your system seems very do-able!
YAY! it is!! I promise, if you just do these quick steps each day (I just do them after I get ready) it will make a world of difference!
I try to do this every day just so my bathrooms always clean. It really does only take 5 min. Love the rug!!
Sharing this with some friends who custom remodeled their bathroom a few months ago and when I went over and saw it, it was already a mess! @adremodel on twitter
Great tips!! Is there a particular microfiber rag you use for the bathroom?
you really do make it sound doable everyday 🙂 great tips
Great tips! Sharing on fb today!
great tips! love the tip on keeping the cleaners where you use them! saves time!!!
Thanks for the suggestion of the cleaning products. I will have to try them out.
Love the tips and I would also love to know where you got that great rug!!!??!!
Thanks! it’s from Kohls
Thanks for the quick tips! A clear counter looks so much nicer than one that’s cluttered. I need to find a storage solution for my makeup so I can quickly store it under the sink.
Where do you keep your make up and hair care supplies? I’ve always kept it on the counter for easier access and I guess from not knowing any different! I am loving the clean counter look though instead of cluttered with my stuff!
did you see the pink box under that vanity? that’s my make up – and my dryer, irons and bushes are in the drawers
Awesome bathroom tips! Could you please tell me where you got your fabulous ribbed towels. I love the aqua color with brown. Thanks so much!!
Thanks! he towels are from Target
You should not leave your tooth brushes out in the open air, put away in cabinet or draw, every time you flush your toilet 1000’s of airborne germs land on your brush…eeekkkkkk !!
we don’t have a medicine cabinet for them, and we always keep our toilet lid down, even hubby is great about it – and the toothbrushes and pretty far down the counter from the toilet.
Cheryl, Your bathroom is so clean. I like your rug.
Thank you for your tips. I try my best to keep mine clean. The only think I am not able to keep up with is my hair on the floor. My bathroom floors are white…..
oh I know! we have that problem too – I have a cordless Dyson and about every other day I use it to hit the bathrooms – I love that thing and keep telling my husband I need one just to keep in the bathroom! lol
Great ideas! I do much the same, except I only use my Norwex microfiber cloth and water – no sprays or chemicals necessary. Super easy for kids to use, too, and no dangers. I even clean my shower while I’m in it – even more time saving.
What do you use when it is time to clean it?
Sorry for the confusion. Thank you for sharing a very doable system!
Love your ideas because they are basically mine too…but I do that with my whole house..I did ‘train’ the kids when they were teens to keep the kitchen clean..use it, and clean up after yourself….same with living room, family room, dining room…now that we are empty nesters, it is so much easier! DH is pretty good at tidying up after himself too! We both work out of the home so we both work to keep the house tidy and clean! Doing it this way is much easier than spending a day off cleaning the whole house once a week!
Great tips Cheryl. It really is easier to keep on top of things when you are doing little bits at a time like this, it makes it more manageable.
Great easy tips Cheryl – I need to keep on top of my bathroom – would make it a lot easier!
Great tips! What do you use for a daily shower cleaner?
I kind of switch round- right now I’ve been using the one from Method
Just did a quick clean right now! And, put a hook on the inside of the cabinet door….now what else can I do???Thanks for the nudge!
Great tips, but seriously. All the grey rooms are making me jealous. Someday I will live in a grey house.
Thanks for the tips, now if I can be diligent, motivated, and disciplined!!! I’m gonna try! By the way, my maiden name is Sousan, born in St. Louis! I just stumbled on your site…how cool is that?!
I am fairly new to your website and am loving it! I am trying to redo my bathroom, want a clean fresh look and love yours! Could you tell me where you got your shower curtain? thanks!
oh gosh, I’ve had that shower curtain for several years, if I remember correctly, I think I got it at Kohls
Great tips the only problem I have is my bathroom is half the size of yours. I totally have bathroom envy.
I recently purchased Tilex Clean Shower spray to use on my new tile and natural stone walls. Before using it I noticed on the container that it said do not use on natural stone. Are the products you use safe to use on natural stone?
Such neat ideas for keeping bathroom tidy. My favorite tip is using microfiber cloth for cleaning mirror.
Where do you keep all the shampoo? And do you fold the towels even though they r wet?
shampoo is in the shower. we put our towels in the laundry after use – but if you re-use them, you can fold them after they dry
Do you rinse the shower after you spray the cleaner on -or just let it dry ?
the daily cleaner you just spray it and leave it – no rinse
Loved all your tips! Excellent website!
Thank you so much for this! I have boys, so it’s hard to keep everything clean all the time! I’m going to start using this immediately!
Thanks for the tips! So you dirty up a clean rag each day to clean the counters? Do you hang these up to dry, throw in the washer or what?
Where did you get your bath rug? I love it! Oh and thanks for the helpful tips.
Sorry just saw it was Kohls 🙂
wait… I’m supposed to mop…the bathroom… WEEKLY?! lol just kidding. All my focus has gone on the tile in the shower… my nemesis. My beautiful to look at, yet I turn into a hell hound if someone doesn’t squeegee… *cough* hubby* cough*
I’ve come to the conclusion that tile IN the actual shower is HIGHLY overated. You can keep it clean easy enough- but the more you clean- the shorter life of the grout sealer… DOH! Unless I’m missing some life altering sealer. The only saving grace is that the shower floor is NOT tile. Is that a simple 3M hook thing inside the door to hang the microfiber on? That’s brilliant!
Great Tips! Thank you for sharing! It makes such a big difference if you clean a little every day instead of letting it pile up!
I didnt see anything about sweeping the floor or mopping it. i have curly somewhat long hair, it is everywhere i have to vac and mop all the time, what about the baseboards?
those are things I do with a weekly cleaning – but you can certainly sweep the floor daily if it needs it 😉
Thanks for the tips, Cheryl!
A question: what cloths do you use for your daily wipe downs and what do you do with them once you are finished wiping? I don’t do laundry every day so I’ve struggled to come up with a solution for how to store dirty cloths. I’d appreciate your advice!
I love your bath carpet…I’m wondering if I can get something similar at ikea…I have started to do the same…cleaning up every day after my bath…otherwise it does add up and I hate getting caught off guard with unexpected company…I used to run with cleaner and paper towels in Hand shouting apologies behind me about the bathroom…not any more…lol lol lol
One of the best ideas I’ve incorporated into keeping the bath clean is NO MORE BAR SOAP! That’s what causes soap scum. Switch to liquid soap exclusively, and sinks and shower will stay SO much nicer.
Great advice! Norwex towels are great for this too! All you need is to dampen it and it picks up everything and even works on mirrors and to shine the hardware! I actually clean the bathroom way more often now that I have them bc it’s so fast and easy. I also usually keep a container of natural antibacterial wipes handy for quick cleaning the toilet or just wipe it down then spray with peroxide to sanitize.
Is your diy drain cleaner ok for the bathtub?
Is your diy drain cleaner ok to use in the bathtub?
Your post is really impressive and informative. I quit using paper towels and only use cotton flour sack towels for everything. They are an easy wash, and I add bleach to clean. Thanks for sharing this great post.
What multi purpose cleaner do you use? And what daily shower cleaner?
