It’s hard to believe we will be dropping our youngest, Allison, off at college in just a few short weeks. Decorating a college dorm room is something we have not had the pleasure of doing yet. Our oldest went to cosmetology school and lived at home during that time. But Allison will be going away to the University of Missouri aka Mizzou.
We have been busy preparing for the move and picking up a few items here and there, but the list seems never ending. Dorm rooms present special challenges, so we’ve been researching dorm ideas on the web this summer and made a pinterest Dorm Room board where Allison and I have been collecting ideas.
As timing would have it, Wayfair – the online store that offers the largest selection of home furnishings and decor across all styles and price points, is having a HUGE college back to school sale thru Sept 1, 2014 and they asked if we would like to do a little shopping and share some of our favorites with my readers. So, I put together some Fun and Essential items for the Dorm Room that we fell in love with. Then later next month, after we get her all moved in, I’ll share pictures of her room, and tell you about the whole process!
Whether you (or your child) choose to live in beautiful chaos or complete organization……bright and chic or a clean and simple…..Wayfair has the basics essentials and lots of fun decor to help make a dorm room (or bedroom) their own!
Allison has not decided on a color scheme for her room yet (she will be meeting her roommate this weekend!) but we both thought this orange, yellow and green with gray was fun and trendy.

I loved the new notebooks and binders. Loved the organization of putting in the colored tabs. Thanks.
A small area rug would be perfect for my son’s dorm room.
New clothes and shoes.
i loved shopping for school clothes and no i love doing it for my kids.
I used to love getting new notebooks. I actually think I have a notebook obsession till this day. 🙂
Microwave because of the care packages that contain so many heat and go meals and snacks. They are a main stay of late night studying and all night talking.
I was always most excited about my backpack!
Shoes. I can still smell that oh-so-brand-new-smell.
I’ve enjoyed shopping for things that will make my son comfortable away from home. Comfortable bed linens, large quick-dry bath towels, neck roll pillow. Also, the elevated beds found in some dorms mean a night stand would be out of reach–even if there was room for a night stand–so where would a kid put his phone overnight? Found the perfect bed accessory–a little tray that attaches to the bed frame and keeps his phone right where he needs it. (Most kids use their phones for their alarm clock, too.)The tray keeps the phone handy, but out of his bed where it could be a fire hazard).
Stationary definitely, I love getting the books, notepads, and colouring pencils.
I used to LOVE getting that big 64 box of crayons! (That was before markers.)
