What Is Sherbet Punch?
Sherbet punch is a sweet and fruity beverage made by combining fruit juice, soda, and sherbet. Sherbet punch can feature various flavors of sherbet, such as pineapple, orange, or raspberry, adding a creamy and tangy element to the drink.

Prep Ahead Tips
This punch recipe is really very simple and doesn’t take much instruction, but there are a few things you can do to ensure sherbet punch success!
- The day before you will want to place the ginger ale and grape juice in the refrigerator. Chilled liquids will not only help make your punch cold, but it’s also what helps make the foam on top (aka bath bubbles).
- On the day of the event, remove the sherbet from the freezer about a half hour before serving the punch. This will allow the sherbet to soften making it easier to scoop into the punch.
Directions
- When you’re ready to assemble the punch, you will need a clear punch bowl or a large glass serving bowl. Combine the Kool-Aid packet, sugar, and chilled grape juice in the bowl and stir until the sugar is dissolved.
- Carefully add the ginger ale to the bowl, go slow so you don’t overflow the bowl.
- Add about 8-10 scoops of softened sherbet to the punch. The sherbet scoops will float and melt and spread as it sits in the punch. The sherbet combined with the carbonated ginger ale will foam and resemble bubbles for the ducky bathtub punch.
- Add clean (floating) rubber ducks to the top of the punch. Make sure you leave room for guests to ladle the punch into their cups. Set out small bowls of maraschino cherries and orange slices for guests to garnish their drinks, if desired.
FAQ & Tips For Making Ducky Baby Shower Punch
UPDATE: I’ve answered some of the questions that are asked about this ducky baby shower punch most often.
You can definitely switch up the sherbet flavors in this blue sherbet punch if you can’t find pineapple. Lemon sherbet would work great and might be easier to find, or you could even use sorbet. Vanilla ice cream may work in a pinch, but sherbet works much better in a punch recipe, ice cream is going to break down faster than the fruity sherbet.
I get emails all the time asking “how to make this ducky punch for a girl”….but the whole point of this blue punch is for the water (not for gender). Pink water would no longer look like ducks in a bath, it would look like ducks in pink punch.
If you want this bathtub punch to look more girly, you could use pink ducks.…..but honestly if your rubber ducky baby shower theme is pink, and this sherbet punch is sitting in the middle, it will fit in just fine…blue “water” and all!
NOT ALL RUBBER DUCKS WILL FLOAT. I bought bathtub rubber duckies from the baby department. Make sure your rubber ducks float! and don’t forget to wash them in hot soapy water (or run them through the dishwasher) before placing them in the punch.
The simple answer is Blue Kool-Aid packets – Look for Mixed Berry, Ice Blue Raspberry Lemonade or any blue flavors.
You can also add a small amount of blue gel food color to the punch. Just dip a toothpick in the gel food coloring and swirl it around in the punch. A little goes a long way and this allows you to add a little coloring at a time.
Many people have a problem finding blue Kool-Aid. A reader used berry blue typhoon Hawaiian Punch, ginger ale, white grape juice and sherbet… NOTE: You Do NOT ADD SUGAR! (the Hawaiian Punch is sweetened so no more sugar is needed).
Be sure to chill all of your ingredients before putting the punch together.
This is a showy punch and your guests will be intrigued by the brilliant blue “bath water”, foaming bubbles and floating ducks! It really is the perfect addition to your next ducky themed gathering and is always the hit of the party.

Ingredients
- 1 packet blue, unsweetened Kool-Aid (Look for Blue Raspberry Lemonade)
- 1 (2 liter) bottle Ginger Ale, chilled
- 1 (64 oz) bottle White Grape Juice, chilled
- 1 cup sugar
- 8 scoops pineapple sherbet, softened
- 2-3 Rubber Duckies (make sure they float - bathtub toys)
- maraschino cherries (optional for garnish)
- orange slices (optional for garnish)
Instructions
- Chill ginger ale and grape juice over night
- Remove sherbet from freezer about 1/2 hour before serving punch to soften

- Slowly add chilled ginger ale.
- Float 8 scoops of softened sherbet on top
- Add Rubber Duckies (don’t forget to wash before using)
- garnish cups with cherries and orange slices
Notes
- If you can't find Blue KoolAid then you can replace the unsweetened Kool-Aid and sugar with Berry Blue Typhoon Hawaiian Punch. DO NOT ADD 1 CUP of sugar if you do this! The Hawaiian Punch already has sugar in it.
- 1 gallon bottle Hawaiian Punch Berry Blue
- 64 ounces of White Grape Juice
- 2-liter bottle of Ginger Ale (or Sprite)
- Pineapple Sherbet
If you can't find Pineapple Sherbet, lemon sherbet or vanilla ice cream will work too

such a cool idea thanks so much
I`m having a baby shower this fall for a family member! Cheryl you saved me!! Was looking for a good punch recipe when I found this on pinterest!! Sounds great this will be my punch recipe! Thanks Cheryl and God bless you and your family 🙂
I had this at my daughter-in-law’s baby shower yesterday and it was wonderful! So good, in fact, that I plan to make some to keep in my fridge and I’ll add the pineapple sherbet as I get ready to indulge! Thank You so much!!!!!!!
This is such a cute idea! I wanted to let you know that I featured this recipe in my blog post. Have a great day!
What other flavor of sherbert can be used?
The shower is for my daughter and she hates pineapple flavor.
you can use vanilla ice cream
how much Berry Blue Typhoon Hawaiian Punch do I subsittute for
the kool aid and sugar?
you can just swap it out for the grape juice
Do you mix the cool aid with water? And what would tasre better the punch or cool aid?
I used the Berry Blue Typhoon Hawaiian punch and it was a big hit at the shower. I didn’t use the ice cream or sherbert. I did freeze in zip lock bags the white grape juice and punch to make it cold and slushy. This was for a tropical themed wedding shower and it looked like blue ocean water. Besides looking great it tasted wonderful.
Do you mix the cool aid with water? And what would taste better the punch or cool aid?
There is no water in the recipe – just one packet of kool-aid.
I’ve only had the punch the way I’ve listed the recipe on my post.
Awesome! My 9 year old wants a smurf themed birthday tea party and I have been on line collecting ideas for something age appropriate.
Thanks so much for posting this! I’ve been trying to find the perfect punch for my little girls first birthday this weekend and you’ve made that possible! We have super picky eaters in our family so most of the other ones I’ve found just won’t work. Since I’m not going with the duckies, I’m going to pick up pink coolaid instead to math the princess party!!
hi im doing this for my babyshower 🙂 its so creative.but i was wondering if i can use sprite insted of gingerale with the koolaid? and i dont have pineapple sherbert what else can i use?
Yes!! I`ve found my punch recipe for the babe shower I`m having in oct!! Thanks Cheryl, what a cool idea even for a baby girl shower 🙂 Will totally be using this recipe. Thanks again Cheryl! God bless you an your family
Hey!
I love this post! I just made this and mine did not foam at all! What can I do to
Boost the foam like in this post?!
Hi, I couldn’t find the koolaid packets but I found the little plastic
Bottles with berry flavored koolaid in blue is that ok to use you think?
I used the punch not koolaid and I also used apple juice and not grape juice…everyone loved it not a drop was left
I used the punch not koolaid and I also used apple juice and not grape juice…everyone loved it not a drop was left
Yum, yum! I added a little water (maybe 1 or 2 cups) because it was quite sweet in my opinion, but you can tweak it to your taste. It looked GREAT! I made it for my nephews baby shower a few months ago and I’m making it again today for another nephews baby shower – this one has a rubber ducky blue & yellow theme so the punch is going to look perfect! Thanks again!
Very quickly this web page will be famous among all blogging and site-building people, due to it’s good posts
Super cute idea! Dumb question…is everyone at the shower now going to have a blue mouth, lol?!
Use a red Koolaid packet to make it pink (Tropical Punch flavor worked well). I learned this by mistake, thinking the blue packet of Tropical Punch contained blue koolaid.
Want to try this for a boy baby shower, next month…. Can this be made without using any sherbet or ice cream? Looking for a blue punch without ice cream… Thank you for the recipe & post.
If you leave out the you need the sherbet or ice cream with the carbonated beverage to get the foamy bubbles.
I made this punch for my sister’s baby shower only I used red Koolaide and raspberry sherbet. It turned out amazing and it was a beautiful shade of pink!
How much does this make? How big of a bowl would you suggest?
the recipe states “Yield: 24 small servings”
it should fit in most punch bowls, or I used an extra large glass bowl – something that will hold a 1 (2 liter) bottle Ginger Ale and 1 (64 oz) bottle White Grape Juice – with room to add the sherbet
I was looking for a blue punch recipe and my daughter found this one. I usually make a green or red punch using lemon lime kool aid or cherry or fruit punch kool aid, 1 can pineapple juice, 1 cup sugar, and gingerale (no ice cream or sherbet) or if you don’t want the fizz just fill the rest of a gallon container with water and stir together (if you use water and a gallon jug you can shake it).
my daughter and i made this on Saturday for a baby shower. We made NO substitutions at all and it was green! A terrible looking green color!
Me too! Totally green! I was horrified 🙁
How much Blue Hawaiin punch do you use?
just thinking of a way to make this idea of yours cuter. how about get a small metal wash tub to put this in with paper cups with duckies on it. after party give to mother to be,she can take a picture of the baby taking a bath in it, with the rubber duckies, for a memory .What you think?Brenda in Pensacola,fl loves you and your ideas.
This punch is delicious and so easy to make! I was able to find the blue Kool-Aid at Walmart. Just make sure your rubber duckies float… it’s a bit of a bummer if they don’t! 🙂
the ducky bath punch was a big hit yesterday june 14 at my baby shower. and I got more punch left if any body wants any
My ducks will not float what is the problem?
I threw a baby shower for my brother and sister-in-love on Pi Day (03/14/15). I couldn’t find the white grape juice that I bought and used pineapple juice instead … It turned a sea foam green color but was still pretty, like ducks swimming in a lake! It was such a hit that I had to make re-fills three times!! Thank God I purchased in bulk and thank you for the cute tasty idea!
If I use the Hawaiian punch instead of Koolaid, how much do I add??
I was wondering if I make this punch exactly as you posted, will it turn a green color as a prior post commented on. I want blue. Help
it didn’t turn green when I made it, as you can see by my photos
My punch had turned out green also. What can I do to change this without starting over. I followed the recipe exactly! Shower is tomorrow.
Help!
If I can’t find pinapple sherbet what other kind can I use.
Where can I buy pineapple sherbet in the St. Louis area? I can’t find it anywhere.
I made this for a friend’s shower and it didn’t turn out at all. It was green, not blue. ( I used the blue Hawaiian punch instead of Kool Aid) and the “bubbles” looked more like a scum on the top of the water. It tasted good at least but my ducky was definitely swimming in swamp water, not the bath.
I had the same outcome when I made this last weekend for my daughter’s baby shower. Everyone loved it anyway.
Do you happen to have this recipe so that it would be pink for a girl???
water is blue. You could try to find pink ducks if you want to make it look more girly. But if it’s on a table with all the girly pink stuff, it will look girly
I can’t find pineapple sherbet anywhere. Can lemon sherbet be used instead?
sure I bet that would work well too!
can you double the ducky bubble bath recipes to serve more than 24??
thanks so much
How long can I leave it out for? (In the sense how long until the bubbles go away and how long until it taste weird from the loss of the fizzing from the soda)
Also can I use Italian Ice or does it have to be sherbet for the bubbles to be like picture?
Do you actually make the grape juice or just mix in the frozen concentrate?
the recipe calls for
1 (64 oz) bottle White Grape Juice
No pineapple sherbet near me, any other suggestions? My baby shower is the 24th of this month and id love to make it !
you can use lemon, lime or vanilla ice cream 😉 enjoy
Can u use red hawaiian punch an vanilla icecream an gingerale to make a punch for girls baby shower
sure – it just wont look like a bath.
I’m making this for my baby shower this Saturday. And instead of blue raspberry kool aid I’m using strawberry lemonade koolaid to make it pink themed and keeping everything else the same. I’m not a fan of pineapple. But would it still taste good using the pineapple in my substition or can I use vanilla ice cream? I’m just afraid if I use ice cream itll curtle.
I’ve never made this punch before so I didn’t know if I should leave out the juice or different flavor ice cream or sherbet or what. Bc like i said I’m using strawberry lemonade kool aid instead of the blue rasp to make it pink.
Hi. This was such a cute idea. I made it for my son’s teacher’s baby shower. I followed your original recipe exactly & although it was yummy, the punch was definitely an algae green, not a bathtub blue! Has anyone else had this problem!? Also- I really didn’t get these foamy looking bubbles…just a tiny bit of froth for a very short time.
Will it still have the same/similar bubbling effect if I use 7-up and vanilla ice cream? Is it best to soften ice cream/sherbet first?
I’m looking at all the comments and so many of them are answered in the recipe and other comments. How do you keep your “cool” having to answer the same questions over and over again? Argh! BTW…..am making this for a reveal party this weekend and floating a pink duckie with a blue pacifier in it’s mouth. Hope it turns out even half as cute as yours! Thank you.
lol I have edited the post over the years to answer some of the questions that kept popping up in the comments. Enjoy your party and punch!!!
I’ve made this punch for my grandson’s birthday parties for the last 4 years and it’s always a huge hit! So much so that it’s even been requested for a bridal shower this month. I used pineapple sherbet the first year (which was very good), but, since I couldn’t find it the second year, I went with the lime instead. Everyone loved it and agreed it was the favorite of the two! Thanks for sharing this recipe…it’s the most requested beverage, by kids and adults, at the party!
Awesome!!! thanks so much for letting us know!!!
This is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen!
What type of alcohol would you add to this to make it a 21+ punch?
I think rum would work well, or maybe triple sec, cointreau, southern comfort or champagne/sparkling wine would work well too
