I mean look at this! I couldn’t help but digging into this when I was photographing it..seriously too good. The cake is two ingredients!! a boxed spice cake mix and a can of cream soda. You mix it up and bake it.
After the cake cools, grab a wooden spoon and poke holes all over the top of the cake and pour a can of sweetened condensed milk over the whole cake, especially in the holes. and that’s IT!!! Crazy simple right?

You could make a frosting for the cake or serve with ice cream, we decided to go with the ice cream and caramel syrup. Good decision!
The cake has a bit of a spongy texture to it, and if you top it with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream and caramel syrup and let it sit about 10 mins, letting the ice cream melt into the cake a little….OH.MY.HEAVEN!!! My cinnamon roll loving family would go nuts for this cake! I think my first poke cake in decades is happening soon!
WOW! That looks absolutely amazing – you’re making it hard resisting a late night run to the grocery store.
Pinning this now! Poke cakes are fantastic and I love this version! Cinnamon roll flavor for the win!
Yummy looking and sounding recipe – but I do have one question – is it a 12 ounce can of cream soda one uses? Thanks so much!
sorry, yes
Is it wrong to eat this for breakfast?!
This recipe looks so delicious! Hi, I’m Anita visiting from Link Party Palooza.
Recipe sounds great, but I have no idea what “can of cream soda” is. Help. !
cream soda is a flavor of soda, can be found with other soda bottles and cans
The photos of this poke cake have really made me hungry. So delicious!
Am I supposed to mix up cake like the box says and then ad soda or just the cake powder and soda?
the recipe ingredients and directions state “cake mix”
In a large mixing bowl combine cake mix and soda. Using an electric mixer, mix one minute on low, then another minute on medium high.
enjoy!!
Do you think it matters if I use 12 oz of cream soda out of a 2 liter bottle? It wouldn’t be as fizzy anymore I wonder if the fizz matters . I have never thought of spice cake mix tasting like cinnamon rolls. So I am curious. Don’t care for spice cake mix usually but I love cinnamon rolls.
Eagle brand new has a chocolate and a caramel version of their condensed milk. I think the caramel flavor would work great and cut the need for the caramel topping.
I finally made this cake last weekend. I made a mistake though and mixed the caramel syrup and condensed milk together. (I have a recipe for a different cake where they are mixed.) Anyway, it was so yummy it was dangerous. Had to get it out of my house so I sent it home with my son and his family after lunch on Sunday. Except for 2 pieces I kept for my husband and me to have with our coffee the next morning. So good!!!!
What flavor of cream soda did you use
cream soda is the soda I used.
I want to make this for Easter and I want to make sure that I am clear on the directions.
Is it only the dry cake mix and the cream soda mixed together or is it the cake mix made according to the package plus the cream soda?
it’s the cake mix and cream soda. enjoy!
Hi,
I love cinnamon rolls and this poke cake sounds to die for. But I´m in Colombia, South America and cream soda is not sold here. What other soda can I replace it with??? I REALLY REALLY want to make this ASAP.
Thank you.
I don’t have an electric mixer….do you think the cake would still come out good if mix using a fork or spoon??
Whisk with a fork until there are no lumps left in the batter. It will take a little effort and it’s best if you use a large bowl that you can tip to a 45 degree angle while you stir. If you have a wire whisk, that will work even better than a fork.
Can any other sofa flavor be substituted if cream soda isn’t avaible? Is it spice cake?
Thank you.
Joan
the cream soda is what gives it the flavor – but you could maybe try something like vanilla coke? Cream Soda is generally pretty easy to find, even in generic brands.
Can you please clarify again? Do you mix the cake mix, eggs, oil and cream soda?
Or, only the dry cake mix and soda?
there are no eggs or oil listed in the ingredients.
In a large mixing bowl combine cake mix and soda.
Hi, have you ever added any kind of nuts? Love my sticky bun with nuts and raisins
no I have not, but I don’t see why you couldn’t!! Keep me posted if you try it!!
Okay, I don’t care for Ice cream topping, so could I put a whipped topping on top? I could have the ice cream and caramel topping for my guest or anyone who would prefer it that way!
