My Favorite Mascara: I’m Lovin’ It

I’ve tried a lot of mascaras over the years. All full of promises…… longer, thicker lashes…….most every time I rarely notice a difference no matter how much I pay for mascara and see very little results.
As I’ve aged (ahem) my lashes seem to have less curl, fullness and length. I’ve contemplated eye lash extensions, like Shelly has, but can’t bring myself to spend the money, and my hairdresser daughter tells me not to do it. So when Amy posted about a new mascara she tried and fell in love with, I though, what have I got to lose.
I found myself in an Ulta store just a few weeks later and picked up a tube of the Benefit mascara, They’re Real. Like Amy, I was not only fascinated by the claims of adding length, volume, curl and lift to my eyelashes, but 100% of those who wore it had long lasting results!
In the nine months I’ve been wearing this mascara, I have to say, it has defiantly become my favorite mascara I’ve tried in a long time! and the long lasting results are TRUE!! This is NOT a waterproof mascara, but it’s darn close and does give me longer lush looking lashes! Well worth the $22 and I’ve sold my oldest daughter on it now too, she can’t live with out it.
What it does: This mascara features an exclusive brush specially designed to maximize the performance of the long-wearing, glossy formula revealing lashes you never knew you had! Staggered bristles grab close to the root, boosting length and volume beyond belief. The precision bristles on the custom-domed tip lift, define, and curl even your tiniest lashes. The end result is luxurious, silky lashes that won’t smudge, clump, or dry out.
So if you’re in the market for thick lush lashes and a long lasting mascara, you can find ‘They’re Real’ at Ulta or Amazon.
Next up, I’m on the hunt for a new eyelash curler. I got a lot of great suggestions on Instagram and Facebook when I asked there. I’d love to hear about your favorite eye lash curler, or mascara!

I love Benefit Make Up! I think Dallas is the best thing! Not too pale and not too dark. Perfect!
Thanks for hosting Cheryl!!! I LOVE benefits makeup!
I love the Shu Uemura eyelash curler! It’s the most comfortable one I’ve tried.
Thank you for hosting the linky each week!
i ALWAYS get compliments on my eyelashes!! I believe that it’s not what you use, but how you use it. I curl quickly with a standard curler (from Sally’s or something, cheap!) immediately apply one coat of Loreal grow lucious, let that dry. Apply one coat of covergirl lashblast (orange tube) and let that dry and that’s my day time look. for nighttime, i add one last coat of maybelline falsies (curve of the brush down) be sure not to add too much at once or it’ll clump. long swoops of the brush to cover and extend lashes. seems like a lot of work, but this works for me. my lashes are my favorite part 😉
Thank you so much for hosting!
Thanks so much for hosting, Cheryl!
I haven’t tried the Benefit mascara…I’ve always been a Maybelline pink bottle girl, but I’m definitely up for trying something new! Thanks so much for the suggestion!
I have been looking for new mascara for months. I’ll have to head to Ulta to check out this mascara, sounds like a winner! I use a Shu Uemura eyelash curler that I actually got years ago and still works like a gem. I’m sharing my Grilled Buffalo Shrimp Po’Boys today. Thanks for hosting! Have a great weekend!
I’ve been through my first tube of “They’re Real” and LOVE it!! I’m a tish bit older myself, and it’s by far, the best mascara I’ve ever used! I highly recommend it. Better than fake lashes 😉
Not sure how I found your site, but am SO GLAD I stumbled upon it!!! It is absolutely delightful and I love it. Thank you so much for the hop too. I linked up! Can’t wait to come back and visit again and again! You seem lovely. Thanks, Mama Leisha
I’ve never heard of this brand of mascara. Given that you have been using it for nine months now and love it I’m going to have to look for it. So many products don’t live up to the claims they make but this one seems to and I for one could use some lash thickening and lengthening (on the rare occasions that I do wear makeup these days 🙂
Thanks for hosting, Cheryl. Have a great weekend 🙂
Thanks for hosting Cheryl. I’ve been on the hunt for a new mascara, I’m going to have to try that one!
I have gotta try this mascara Cheryl! I am linking up some posts now 🙂
I like e.l.f.’s Lengthening & Volumizing mascara. I use the Mascara Primer first, and my lashes look great! And they’re only $3 each, what a steal!! I like e.l.f. much more than any other makeup brand I’ve tried, and their stuff is consistently more affordable.
I second Steph on the Shu Uemura eyelash curler. And whichever one you try, you should probably replace it every 18 months or so (the whole curler, not just the insert). No matter how sturdy the metal is (and the Shu is quite sturdy), after banging around in your makeup bag or drawer for awhile it will warp a bit. I can never tell the difference in my lashes until the first time I use a new curler and then I wonder why it took me so long to replace it!
Thanks – that’s the curler that was suggest on Instagram and Facebook by many!!
I use Shu Uemura eye lash curler too. You do need to replace the whole curler when your rubber tips are worn. As far as mascara, I just bought another tube of MK Ultimate and will use it up and then try the Benefit. I use a primer if going out at night and it does gives amazing results.
So I’m curious to hear about replacing the whole curler- my last one I bet I had for YEARS lol….when I finally decided to get a new one. So I picked up a Sally Hansen, and the rubber pads wont stay in it.
The Shu Uemura has been recommended by a LOT of people, so I think that probably what I’ll be getting!
Shu Uemura does not sell the rubber tips…only the curler so you must buy the whole product when the tips are worn. It truly is the best one out there…it curls instead of bending your lashes. If you use a blow dryer to heat up the curler before using, your curl will last much longer. (be careful not to heat up too long and burn your skin)
For “old” eyelashes that are thinning, use a tiny drop of castor oil each night. Simply rub two fingers together with the oil on the tips and use those fingers to “brush” it onto your eyelashes before going to bed. It helps stop eyelash loss and makes them supple to accept your mascara the next morning. You will need to wash your face again in the morning to remove the excess oil, but you won’t have a speck of makeup left around your eyes.
thanks for the tip Donna
Yay! Just linked up for the first time! So many cute links!!!! I love it:0)
I have never used an eyelash curler… they scare me for some reason! I remember watching my sister use it all the time when I was little and always thought she was cutting her eyelashes 🙂
I just purchased some of this mascara. Thanks for the recommendation!
lol thanks Kristen
This is my first time joining in the link up. I think I just filled my browser window with as many tabs it will fit. Thanks for having sharing with us!
What do I love? Spending time with my daughter, which times are coming few and far between anymore since she is a teenager.
Sounds great! I’ve been using Avon mascara for years, but they keep getting rid of older formulas and bring new ones, so I always have to change. And the way my eyes are, no eyelash curler works for me, so I do the best I can with the mascara.
I received a free sample of this mascara last year from Sephora and fell in LOVE with it! I have a disease that causes atrophy on the right side of my face and that includes loss of eyelashes. I have none on the bottom of my right eye. This stuff is amazing!!! My lashes look beautiful and I couldn’t go out without it!!!
My fav mascara is Instant Definition by Clarins
This is totally my favorite mascara too… ok Im totally kidding. Just thought I’d stop by this post and say Hi anyways : )
hi! i just found you via simpleasthat. for eyelash curler i have a plain metal on from the drugstore. a great tip. warm it up with the hairdryer for a few seconds and it acts a little like a curling iron. be careful not to warm too long or you’ll burn your eyelids when you go to curl. i usually test with my fingers first
