My Windows Phone helped my daugher learn how to drive!

passed drivers test sweet 16

We reached a turning point in our house this week………we now have 4 drivers.  How did that happen?  I blinked and my baby turned 16, and I’ve been a puddle.  She’s our second child to turn 16, but it’s been 8 years since the first.  Maybe I’m more emotional because she’s the last, or maybe because our oldest wasn’t as eager to get her license.  I don’t feel like I’ve had time to prepare.  I mean for 16 years I’ve been wiping tears, kissing things that hurt and listening to laughter, who has time to prepare to let their baby make that right of passage that comes with turning 16?

sweet 16

I want to  see her beautiful smile every day! Her kind heart and caring attitude fills my heart with happiness. I’m grateful for having two such wonderful daughters. I want to see joy in their lives for the rest of my life.

Sisters

Teaching her how to drive for the past year has been a little nerve racking at times, but she’s been a great student.

Recently I was given a new Nokia Lumia 900 Windows Phone to make my life easier.  Who would have thought that a phone could unload some of the pressure of teaching my daughter how to drive!

Wandering around in the Market Place I found a free app called Drivering Test!  This app provides videos and practice tests to help you pass your driving test!  It covers almost all states in the US and some other countries like UK and India.  It allows you to take practice tests and improve your score, as well as review your test questions and find right answers!  SCORE ONE for MOM!

drivers test app on Windows Phone

This bit of extra instruction eased my mind a bit before we headed to the DMV on Tuesday, where I was excited to give the Windows Phone camera  a try and look for some fun photo apps to download.

I took pictures of Allison walking out with the instructor, parallel parking during her test and proudly displaying her new license with excitement! She drove us to lunch to celebrate, where I quickly edited the pictures with the Creative Studio app then tossed them in a collage with Tap Collage app all before our Sweet and Sour Chicken even arrived to our table!

It was  so easy to then send this photo out to friends and family all at once from my new phone!

How old were you when you got your driver’s license?

The girls and I are headed to New York City next week, I can’t wait to try out some of the apps that will help us find our way around while we are there!  If you have any tips on NYC I’d love to hear them too!

Disclosure: Microsoft gave me the the new Nokia Lumia 900 Windows Phone to test drive.  I am being compensated for this review, however all opinions are all my own!

Your daughters are absolutely beautiful…they have such amazing smiles! I think I will be getting that app for my son….the driving thing scares the bejeebers out of me! Have fun in New York.

p.s. I was 19 when I got my license…my mother made me get it. The funny thing was I was already taking flying lessons and would rather have done that than drive.

    Fun pictures!

I was 16 when I got my license. I failed the first test, because the cop said I didn’t come to a complete stop. LOL!

lol Jenny. Allison was SO afraid of failing the first time, that’s why we went to Ballwin, she heard it was easier lol

Wow how lucky for you to get a free phone and be compensated for it. I was just looking to get both kids an iPad for their birthdays and decided to wait since I’ve read so many great reviews on the new Surface tablet especially since we are windows users. I didn’t realize they’d come out with a windows compatible phone, but that would make sense.

That driving app sounds fantastic, I will be sure to mention it to my sister who has a son turning 16 this month.

As for NY, my daughter is there right now with her friends. She just graduated from BU and all her friends are from NY. You’re welcome to email her and they will gladly recommend places or shoot me an email with things you’d like to and I will forward to her.

By the way I too cried with all the milestones but the worst was when they left for college. I’m doing much better now. Hang in there!

I was 16 – I couldn’t get my driver’s license fast enough! A tool like this would have been great for me. We had to use maps back in the day. LOL!

My twin sister & I went to the DMV on our 16th birthday! I went first and then my sister. While I was waiting the examiner told me if she didn’t pass I wouldn’t either. (I hope he was kidding…) I was a wreak by the time she returned & we BOTH got our licenses!

Hooray for your baby…. that is definitely a bittersweet moment for you though. I was 17 when I got my license, I was in no real hurry except i needed to get one so I could commute back and forth to college.

CONGRATULATIONS to your daughter and to you for having such a beautiful girl Cheryl!!!!!.
I had my driving license when I was 18 and my father gave me my first car as a present. I remember having the car and not being able to drive it because I hadn´t taken the exam yet.
In Spain, you have to be 18 to be able to get your driving license, so both my children have it since then. Maialen is now 15 and Carlos 21.
LOVED THE PICTURES and loving the chance to say Hi!

I cringe at the the thought of this, but I had my learner’s permit at age 14, and my full fledged license at 16. The learner’s permit was restricted to daytime hours and I couldn’t have any young riders unless a parent was with. Driving is such a huge responsibility – I’m not looking forward to going through the process with our girls. Your girls are beautiful, Cheryl!!! (And my husband got a Windows phone in November and LOVES it!)
