I LOVE my new lens!…….and you won’t believe how little I paid for it!
Tamron 28-75mm 2.8 (for Nikon)
I’m going to be totally honest here…..I’ve had lens envy for quite some time. As much as I enjoy my 35 mm 1.8 Nikon lens for portraits and food shots, it’s not a great “walk around lens. It’s a prime lens, meaning no zoom (you zoom with your feet).
When I was in Monterey with Dole I was introduced to a new lens. Kristen and Shaina had a very intimidating gorgeous lens on their cameras. I fell in love with it that day. Fast forward a few months to my Utah trip, and that same lens starts popping up again, this time on Katie and Helen’s cameras. I start to notice more of my favorite bloggers, Amanda and Jenny, are shooting with this lens as well. By this time, I know I want the Nikon 24-70mm 2.8 ….but I’m also wanting a new camera. I soon find out my dream lens is out of my budget, especially if I want a camera any time soon. {hangs head}
That’s when I started thinking about a Tamron lens. I talked to Amy and Angie of i heart faces and they had nothing but rave reviews about Tamron lenses. Did you know that Tamron makes lenses that are compatible with both Nikon and Cannon? Well, Tamron has a lens similar to my dream lens!
So I got the Tamron 28-75mm 2.8
I LOVE it! It’s not as heavy as the 24-70 mm and it was one third of the price! Perfect solution to my needs, right now. Some day when I can splurge for the other lens, I can sell this one.
But take a look at some of the pictures I’ve taken with it!
Family fun with the dogs……the day I got the lens.
Whirlpool’s Real Whirled House I stayed at when visiting Whirlpool.
Whirlpool test center……testing washing machine agitators.
Birthday cake I made for my husband’s birthday. Yellow Cake with dark chocolate frosting, his favorite.
Saving my money by buying this lens, allowed me to upgrade my camera sooner as well!! My Nikon D40 is being replaced with the Nikon D7000!! {squeel} I still have to pinch myself that I finally pulled the trigger and ordered it! I’ve only had it a few days and I’m still learning how to set it up and use it! But I’m on cloud nine right now!
Want to know the BEST part about it?!!!!!!!
The lens was almost FREE! That’s right, I paid for most of this $500 lens with my Swagbucks!!
I exchange my Swagbucks for Amazon gift cards. I pile them up in my Amazon account and then splurge on something big! You might remember when I got my KitchenAid Mixer at half price, and paid for some of my Christmas shopping thanks to Swagbucks!!

Congrats, Cheryl!!! That is spectacular!!!
I have heard nothing but good things about your lens.. so glad you got it!

Congratulations! I have some lenses I’m drooling over as well. I love shooting my girls soccer games and have been drooling over the zoom lenses that are much faster and much more expensive (thousands of dollars) than mine. I got a new camera in April and I love it!!
Those are great pics! Congrats on the new lens AND new camera! You are going to be having so much fun with it!!
Thanks for hosting, Cheryl, and for sharing about this! I’ve been hearing about Swagbucks for a while but have never tried it, for some reason… not really sure why. Sounds like I need to start for sure!
Hi Cheryl-
I am so envious of your new camera gear. I am looking forward to seeing your photos and hearing all about how you like your new camera.
My best- Diane
Your cake looks perfect. Nice work!
I’m building up courage to buy another lens too! I have a 17-55mm 1.8 by Canon. I completely love it but I;d love to be able to do more close up work!
Thanks so much for hosting!

Congratulations on your new lens, Cheryl! I’m jealous. I want one.
I’m so excited FOR you!
I have yet to learn about this swagbucks, but have heard others talk about it. I think it’s time to investigate! Congrats on your new lens!
Thank you for writing about this… We have Nikon D90 and my husband has talked about buying a Tamron lens for 2 years now and I thought he was crazy… Nikon all the way right? You have opened my eyes!!!
So happy for you, Cheryl. You’re going to have a blast with your new lens and congrats on getting the N7000. I LOVE my new camera! 🙂
I’ll admit I now have a bit of lens envy. Your shots look great and way to go finding the bargain that you did.
Great photos with that new lens! I wish I would remember to use Swagbucks more often, I keep trying to remind myself but forget for weeks at a time. Maybe next year I’ll be able to use my bucks for gift cards – I wouldn’t get much this year. 😉
Congrats, Cheryl! Can’t wait to see what shots you get with your new lens. A new lens is on my birthday wish list too.
Yay!! Congrats on your fun new lens!! I must look into that. Linking up a few posts today 🙂 xxoo
Great to hear your review of the Tamron lens! I too decided the 24-70mm 2.8 lens was just way out of my price range right now, so I ended up buying an older 35-70 2.8 lens off ebay for pretty cheap and I am pretty happy with it. I didn’t know anything about Swagbucks so thanks for the intro, and congrats on your new camera…that’s awesome! ps I’m linking up to my homemade walnut butter 🙂
Yay! Would you happen to know if it is compatible with a Pentax? Also, yellow cake w/ chocolate is my fave too. Your hubs has good taste!

I’ve never heard of Swagbucks but will look into it! Sounds great! I have a Tamron lens that I love too. I’ll have to look into this one as I’d love another lens from my old Nikon D70. Wow, congrats on the new camera!
Cheryl~
I am lovin’ the lens too…now hand it over! 🙂 J/K! Obviously a 2.8 f/stop is wonderful but what were your needs in buying this particular lens…what are you planning to shoot most? I guess I am just wondering what it’s best for?
Congrats on your new lens/camera!
Congrats on the new lens. That would be exciting to get. Of course, I still just use an aim and shoot cheapo camera. I am keeping my fingers crossed that a new camera in in my near future! Thanks for hosting!
I’ve had swagbucks for months and months, a year maybe and I have only earned 429 swagbucks. It seems like i only earn one buck at a time. But I know others earn 30 and 40 bucks at a time. I use their tool bar too. I wonder how I can find out why I don’t earn much?
Yay!! You’re photos are always beautiful, but these look awesome!!!
I just found your blog. THANK YOU for explaining prime vs non- prime. You move forward, because you can’t zoom…I always wondered the difference. I am looking to get a better lens for up close, portraits and food/crafts shots. I was thinking the 50mm 1.4.
Your blog is great btw!
