Tooth Fairy Traditions

There is one thing we ALL have in common……….we all lose our baby teeth. And most all of us remember the excitement and mystery of visits from the tooth fairy.
The tooth fairy is a tradition that has stood the test of time with so many great customs from trailing fairy dust, to miniature doors and tooth-shaped pillows to special coins or just good ole hard cash … all for the magical fairy in exchange for the pearly whites.
Your little one is in bed with a shiny, baby tooth under the pillow — now what? Here are some fun ideas to make a visit from the Tooth Fairy a special event!
Special Tooth Fairy Door
my life my loves and nest of posies
This has to be one of my favorite ideas! How whimsical and cute for the tooth fairy to have her own door right next to your child’s bed.
Magic Fairy Dust and Gold Coins
Most fairies leave a trail of glittery fairy dust, and how about leaving a special gold coin instead of a dollar bill?
Tooth Fairy Pocket
You can make a special tooth pocket to celebrate the momentous moment and place the tooth under the pillow with out fear of losing it……….leaving the perfect spot for the tooth fairy to deposit her memento. Download the free template to make a tooth fairy pocket
Tooth Fairy Pillow
I love this cute little DIY Tooth Pillow craft. This makes it much easier for the Fairy to find the tooth instead of having to sneak under a pillow and risk rousing a sleeping little one.
Glittered Tooth Fairy Money
Money is glitter sprayed dollar bills from the Tooth Fairy!
Tooth Fairy Printables
Emergency Tooth Fair kit printable – from Hello Bee
FREE Printable Tooth Fairy Notes from Handmade Charlotte (including a tiny pocket for the tooth as well as a tiny envelope for a tiny letter written by the toothless child to the Fairy).
Tooth Fairy Receipt from Oh My Gluestick
Here are some healthy reminders about taking care of your teeth
- Brush at least twice a day
- Brush all of your teeth, not just the front ones
- Take your time while brushing
- Be sure your toothbrush has soft bristles
- Learn how to floss your teeth, and floss every day
Magical moments are what childhood is all about! I’d love to hear about some of your tooth fairy traditions

I have to say the Tooth Fairy traditions have come along ways! I think we use to get a .50 piece or maybe a $1 and sometimes a silver $1 which was really awesome.
Our kids get $$ but they don’t find it under their pillow. Instead, we just have a small party and give it to them then.

We got a dollar bill for tooth fairy visit.

When my youngest of two, had lost the last of her baby teeth, I disclosed that the tooth fairy was me in a note with her last gift. She was in 6th grade and was a little stunned that I told the truth. Originally I had planned to invite her and her brother to lunch with santa, the easter bunny and the tooth fairy and discover me and dad there but it did not work out like that and I think the red suited man still lives on in our house so maybe a future lunch date?? I like that door idea, very cute.
When I was little the tooth fairy always left my coins in a glass of water by my bed. She was very considerate and didn’t want to wake me up by putting anything under my pillow. I did feel somewhat cheated when I got my wisdom teeth removed when I was 17. She left NOTHING. All that pain, for days on end, for nothing.
My daughter hasn’t lost any teeth yet, but at five years old I know we’re getting close. I’d love to make her a special pocket / pillow to place the tooth in – love the link you shared! Guess I should get busy…

I just remember being so excited whenever I knew the toothfairy would be coming!
I remember waking up after putting my very first baby tooth under my pillow and finding a glittery, pink, superstar barbie. Hot pink dress & matching boa. It was awesome. That was 35 years ago!
My kids always leave a note to the tooth fairy with their tooth and then they get a letter back with their surprise… I LOVE that little door idea! That is juat crazy cute.
When my boys were going up there was
nothing really cute back then but just giving them cash under their pillow!
But hey cash is good :))

My tooth fairy memories are the traditional “put your tooth under the pillow and the tooth fairy leaves you some change.” However, now that we have kids, it’s really fun to make a big deal out of the tooth fairy. The tooth fairy that visits our family leaves a gift for the first lost tooth! From there on out they get some money under their pillow. Our tooth fairy must be really busy because he/she has almost forgotten a couple of times!! 😉

I just remember that I was terrified of getting a tooth pulled, so I would ask my deadline so I wouldn’t have to have the dentist do it. I know that I got money and was happy, but was happier I could get the tooth out on my own time ;p

When our children were young, the tooth fairy would leave them something special for a tooth – sometimes money ($1 or so) and sometimes a book too .

My youngest daughter was feeling left out when her older siblings were losing teeth. So she took the front teeth out of a deer skull in a neighbor’s yard and placed them under her pillow. When she awoke in the morning, she was startled to find a note from the tooth fairy telling her if she tried to fool the tooth fairy again she’d have to pay a $5 fine! A favorite memory of mine, for sure!

I remember the toothfairy leaving me a wad of $1 dollar bills thinking he/she must have felt generous that night I left my tooth under my pillow.

We just had our first tooth fairy visit. She left dollars with fairy dust all over them and a tiny letter to congratulate her! She was in Heaven when she discovered her tooth was gone.
