Forget the doughnut shop -if you have a donut pan, you can have homemade donuts at home any day! Baked donuts are quick and much easier than fried donuts. This recipe for BAKED MAPLE & CINNAMON DONUTS is full of maple flavor, topped with cinnamon and sugar and can be on your table in 20 minutes.
You have Kristen to thank for this donut recipe today. Last week she posted Biscoff Glaze for homemade baked donuts, then three days later, Baked Chocolate Cake Donuts. Go check them out……I’ll wait, then tell me you don’t have donut on the brain.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had a donut pan in my cart and always put it back thinking “I don’t NEED a donut pan“…..but last week pushed me over the edge…..Cheryl NEEDED a donut pan!
It seemed like donuts were popping up on Pinterest, and they were calling my name. So, Saturday when I was perusing the aisles Target, two donut pans made their way into my cart and all the way to the register. Allison was insistent that we waste no time putting them to good use.
Here’s what I like about these donuts: they are baked, not fried. Score one for the waistline (every little bit helps right?) But don’t let that fool you, they are every bit as moist and tender, you’d never guess they were baked.
Feel free to top generously with cinnamon and sugar, because there is no sugar in the donut, other than a little maple syrup, so they are not overly sweet! Next time I’m going to try them with a Maple Glaze.
Baked donuts at home, using a donut pan are super easy…….dangerously easy actually.
Simply mix the batter, divide batter into donut pan wells, bake for about 10 minutes, spread with a little melted butter and roll in cinnamon and sugar. These donuts can be in your belly in less than 30 minutes from start to finish!
This recipe for Maple & Cinnamon Donuts is slightly adapted from Cooking with My Kid. I didn’t have any yogurt on hand, so I substituted with buttermilk. (I actually made buttermilk, by mixing a teaspoon of vinegar in my milk).

Let’s get the Baked Maple & Cinnamon Donuts recipe!
Baked Maple & Cinnamon Donuts
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- pinch of salt
- 1 egg (lightly beaten)
- 1/3 cup buttermilk
- 1 tablespoon canola oil
- 2 teaspoon lemon juice
- 2 1/2 tablespoon real maple syrup
Topping
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 C sugar
- 4Tbsp butter (melted)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400° F
- Mix cinnamon and sugar together in small bowl or plate and set aside.
- In large bowl, whisk together all the dry ingredients. Make a hole in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in wet ingredients in the hole. Gently fold everything together until combined.
- Place the donut batter in a pastry bag (or plastic bag) snip off 1/2" of the tip and pipe it into the wells of donut pan. Be careful not to overfill. Overfilling the wells will create donuts without holes.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown, and turn out a wire rack.
- While still a little warm, use a pastry brush to butter your donuts and then dip each donut in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat.
- Enjoy

they sound great, and I too was always putting the pan in my shopping cart then taking it out.
funny – wonder why?
Okay, I totally need to get a donut pan–I am now convinced. 🙂
My oatmeal doesn’t look so good anymore:)
haha!
Okay, this settles it. I *have* to buy a doughnut pan. I’ve looked at them dozens of times and never made the purchase. Next shopping trip…I’m going for it!
Yum! We love our donut pan and this looks like a great recipe to put it to use!
How delightful! My hubby would die if I made these. 🙂
Wow, yum!! These look SO good! I love the flavors of maple and cinnamon, so these look just perfect to me!
These donuts would go perfectly with my morning coffee… I seriously need to get the donut pan… Gorgeous pictures, Cheryl!
These look awesome. My husband has been bugging me to learn how to make homemade doughnuts. He had them as a kid and swears that they are better than any store bought. Now that I have the recipe, to buy a pan!
Would you have a moment to stop by my Wonderful Wednesday blog hop this week to add this link? My readers will LOVE it! The hop goes live Tuesday evenings at 7pm Eastern time.

Oh my gosh- Cheryl!!! Between you & Kristen- you guys are killing me with the donuts. Like I told her – I have been meaning to pick up a donut pan. I have been holding off because I fear I may make them all the time & the house would never bee donut free 🙂 Totally dangerous.
I’ve had my donut pan for over 2 years and have used it just about every week. So glad to add yet another baked donut recipe to my repertoire!
Sigh…I suppose I need to go get that pan now!!!
I’m an enabler aren’t i? hehe
Cheryl those look so good!! And that is funny – a couple of weeks ago I did the same thing – I saw a donut pan on sale at Target and put it in my cart and then thought “I don’t need a donut pan!!”. I regret this after seeing this post. And it was on sale!! Ugh! 🙂
Those look delicious! – Claire
These donuts do look like a real winner! And even better that they are baked, so basically good for you right 😉 Seriously cant wait to try!
Add me to the list of those who have contemplated buying that donut pan many times. This recipe may just be the one that breaks me down, but then like Gina said I’m so afraid my home would never be donut free if I had that darn pan…lol! Absolutely dangerous!!
I think it’s the $13 price tax x2 that was keeping me away…..but I think I found out, it’s worth the price.
I bought my Wilton doughnut pans just this week on Amazon – only $8.88 each.
I love being an influence, especially when it comes to doughnuts! 🙂
Enjoy your pans!
OMG Chery!! These are killing me!!! LOVE these doughnuts!! 🙂
I read this recipe and I wanted to get up and make some right away – and then I realized I don’t have a pan. I think I need to go and find one – soon!
I was the same way about the donut pan! I now own a pan … still haven’t baked donuts 🙂
I forgot to say that I pinned your recipe… because I NEED to make them!
Lol…..my daughter made sure that didn’t happen
those look sooooo good!
I love the fact that you can now make donuts in the oven instead of frying them. These look fantastic!
I do have a doughnut pan….sadly only one but we love trying new recipes. I know what’s on the menu this week 🙂
I have had the Wilton donut pan in my hands and in my shopping cart more times than I care to remember! I still haven’t bought one. After making deep fried cake donuts a few weeks ago and seeing this post today, the next time I have a chance to actually buy that donut pan and bake with it, I’m going to! Your donuts look wonderful. Wish me luck 🙂
I think I could live on donuts. These look SO good Cheryl! Maple and cinnamon – a great combo!
These donuts look delish Cheryl!
I’m in Ohio. Went to Target looking for these pans after seeing this! Oh I just had to try them, BUT the pans were not in the store! Came home to find the pans are sold online only at Target dot com. Sad face..have to wait to try these! lol
Oh my, those look fabulous!
I actually need a new donut pan, mine lost all of it’s non-stick ability. Your donuts look delicious!
I got a doughnut pan for Christmas — but I’ve yet to use it 🙂 I asked for it for the very face of baking, not frying too. YAY. Thanks for sharing this recipe. Pinning. They look incredibly yummy!!!!
Is it weird that I just want to roll around in a great VAT of these sugary little donuts? yum.
I was giving a set of donut pans LAST christmas and still have yet to use them. after reading this, i think we’re going to make some when the kids get up from nap! they will be so excited.
I love theses i made them just like u did but i rolled them into balls and put cinnamon sugar on them then i cooked them in my cake pop maker with apples and they were amazing my 3 year old son loved it

I kept the kids home today for a snow day and after sledding we made these. Best baked donut recipe I have tried so far. I replaced the buttermilk with my homemade kefir and replaced canola oil with melted coconut oil and they were PERFECT. Thumbs up from all 4 kiddos!
Oh my goodness the two of you are killing me with these donuts!!
Yes please! I will be making these… soon!
I don’t have a donut pan, but I am going to improvise and make bismarks. I will use a muffin pan and then put whip cream or jam into the middle after baking with a pastry bag. Yummy, better than the donut chains!
Mmmmm…I can just smell these!! Yum!
My husband keeps saying “Please please please make some delicious donuts for me.” And so far I’ve been able to resist. But, after seeing these, I’m not sure I can.
I have had these donut pans for almost ten years now but rarely use them. Every baked donut recipe I’ve tried ends up tasting like cupcakes, which although tasty, are NOT donuts. Am I doing something wrong or is that just how baked donuts taste?
Well, a cake donut is going to taste more like a muffin. By adding a glaze, might make them taste more like a donut for you – but yes, they are different than a yeast donut. 😉
I am donut obsessed lately. I made chocolate caramel donuts this morning and am definitely adding these to my donut to do list!
These donuts look devine! We would love to have you share them at our party! It is a weekly Thursday party that goes live tonight at 8:00 MST ~ We hope to see you there!
Have a great day!

they look great, i have everything but the maple syrup, gotta get some! thanks for sharing! susan
Giving these a try this week. Love the pictures!!
Made these this morning and they were DIVINE! It was my first baked doughnut endeavor, and my family all agreed that these were even better than the delicious doughnuts we get at Whole Foods. I didn’t have much milk in the fridge so I subbed sour cream, and added the little bit of goat milk I had. Also subbed coconut oil for canola oil. I loved that there was no sugar in the dough. Didn’t miss it at all. Thanks for the great recipe!
so glad you enjoyed them as much as we did! I have another baked donut recipe I’ll be sharing soon 🙂
